Just need to correct your quote there GJ. I meant to type shouldn't instead of should. If you read the rest of the post you decided to omit from your quote you get the gist of it, and by that I mean I don't think any new moderators that we get should be heavy handed. I can be a crap typist at times.

I agree that it has got out of hand in the last couple of days.

I am not (contrary to popular belief) not on here 24/7 but am usually around most of the time.

It does help when you report posts otherwise it is only by reading through every thread that we come across the offensive ones and that takes time.

Sabre & I have tried get a balance between being too precious & too easy going , maybe it need to be a bit more on the precious side.

Shibz appears to have been carded on the Cats board.

Chops copped a yellow from me yesterday for abuse , don't know where he picked up the red from as yet.

I does make matters worse when threads are posted on here with thread titles that appear to be baiting other teams supporters.

You lot have not even seen some of the bulk crap that has been usually taken down quickly. but the last couple of days it has come in very fast .

I just want to back Ripper up here with a couple of points :

1) It makes moderating a hell of a lot easier if posts are reported - much less time is taken to find a post that has been pointed out than going through threads individually trying to find posts you need to act on.

2) Deleted posts are exactly that - deleted which means you can't see them. Believe me when I tell you that there are an awful lot of deleted posts on this board ATM - it's not like your mods haven't been doing anything.

3) Personally I think this board has always had a pretty good balance in terms of what to allow and a bit of tongue in cheek banter is usually tolerated. Most of the Freo posters I've come across on here seem happy to accept it as well.

4) As for a 3rd moderator if you feel one is necessary, I don't think you should be looking to appoint someone as the Freo Board headkicker but rather someone who can continue on the work of the existing mods and help give a bit more cover when it gets busy like it has over the last couple of days.

The problem is that the "third moderator" would start out as an "opposition club enforcer" but would inevitably end up adopting the same heavy handed approach to our own supporters as well.

This is how all dictators start out - they claim power (often by democratic means) in order to deal with a perceived threat to the community, they are granted powers to deal with that threat, but then they end up applying those powers against the very same community which initially supported their push for power.

History is littered with examples of this happening.

I think the best bet is for Ripper and Sabre to retrospectively target Geelong supporters that posted over the weekend. Dish out some very harh punishment, but aside from that leave the board as is.

For what its worth, if we did go down the third moderator path, I would argue that either yourself or Belnakor would be the most suitable candidates for that role.

I couldn't be ****ed quoting both of your posts; but if you like I will re-quote myself saying that this was in NO way an attack on our resident mods.

The thread title should give you just the slightest hint of that fact.

And please tell me where I have called for some "Mugabe like" moderator who comes in belting the outsiders and eventually turns on his own??

I have simply stated that the current task is beyond the current moderation team.

Not because of incompetence, but because of their lack of time and increased board traffic.

Do you seriously believe that this traffic will decrease if you consider the incredible expansion of BF as a whole, and our inevitable crap season and consequent trading/drafting discussions at years end??

Do you honestly believe that "Best Practice" moderation is carried out after the fact??

Will this preferred moderation practice of yours solve the current problem??

I think you need to resist the pressure to bring a third moderator in.

This knee jerk reaction to Geelong trolling is playing right into their hands. They would be sitting back in their shithole of a town laughing at this thread right now.

The only time there is going to be a need for "heavy policing" is when there is a particularly high profile incident - e.g. The Headland/Sickwood incident, the sacking of the coach, or a spitefull clash involving the Dockers.

This type of incident would occur once a season max. We dont need to ruin the culture of the board for 51 weeks of the year, just to make sure that the board can handle that 1 bad week that comes around each season.

Third moderator has been in the air for a while now, we floated the idea earlier and it was rejected.

The fact that most boards have at least three probably mean's its out time too.

I think we can handle it, but it would be nice knowing there is a 3rd person who can jump in when required.

Which gives me an idea. We could have a tiered Moderator system. IP could moderate the more highbrow and clever trolls, Stronzo could moderate the funny trolls and we could use kiroshi to moderate the likes of B2BW, Big Cox, PoidaCat, Superphaser etc. Well maybe not...

IMO it has been going downhill for a while and perhaps a tougher stance for a small time is needed including Freo posters.
I don't know how it works but perhaps a fill in or someone who can help at times like this week is needed rather than a full time Mod.

I can honestly say GJ that the quality of our sanctuary here on our board has diminshed somewhat...
I don't really see the issue have 1 tp 2 extra mods to help Rip and Sabre with the workload.... It's not unheard of on other boards.

I'm still not sure we need another moderator. I stand by the fact we have the best posters on the site especially on our own board. For the amount of crap we have had to endure since day one nothing surprises me any more.

I hope we don't get to the point where we start coming down on opposition supporters as soon as they come on this board. The whole thing that makes this site so special is the interaction between opposition supporters.

Lets not become that precious that we start handing out cards left right and centre.

If my name was put into contention then I would be honoured to think people would think I would be a good option but I'm not chasing anything.

Bushie supported those calls for a moderator election back then. That is why I am slightly suspicious of his newly found desire to "get tough" on opposition trolls by introducing a new moderator. Is this thread driven by Bushie's desire to get tough on opposition supporters after last weekend? or does it really demonstrate his long held desire eradicate posters that he does not like?

I think what you will really find is that Bushie and a few others have been waiting for quite some time to shake up the status quo on the freo board - and sadly these fcukwits from Geelong have given him that excuse.

For those people that remember the "moderator election thread", do any of you looking back on it 12 months later actually think that moderator elections were needed back then? I think in 12 months time, we will look back on this incident with the Geelong supporters and feel that a third moderator was also not required.

What difference is having 3 or 4 or even 5 mods going to make to us really apart from clearing the crap posts quicker.
