Thorp & Dowler up for grabs

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Thorp wont be traded, Dowler is a maybe.

What is certain is that Hawthorn will offer their first round Pick (16) plus player for a top 10 pick. Players up for trade will be -

Dawson
Dowler
Boyle
Taylor
McGlynn
Kennedy

Plenty to work with there - Carlton, Essendon, Port, Richmond, Brisbane, step forward and make an offer.

Pelchin says that he will listen to offers for any player. So of course he will listen to offers for Dowler and Thorp. Doesn't mean they are up for grabs.

what exactly about saying 'your useless dowler' is incorrect?

the guy is completely useless, goes and and parties way to much and doesnt focus on making a career

Scumbag posting.

Semi-literate.

Why do people get such a buzz out of shit-canning people who have worked their arse off but haven't made the cut yet?

Both have been told they will be traded for a key defender or a 1st round selection. Neither will figure in the Hawthorn forward plans in the future or are key defender material.

Carlton are very keen to take Thorp and are considering offering pick 6 while Melbourne and Richmond are very keen on Dowler.

Carlton seem to be linked to every trade

I've heard (not from any reliable sources mind you) that Thorp is a real ego maniac... anyone else heard anything similar? I've seen him a few times as well, and he sure does walk like he's Wayne Carey.

Its quite funny reading posts from carlton and western bulldog supporters bagging the likes of Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler

When Dowler was picked up he was required to have a full pelvic reconstruction which didnt let him work without support for up to six months. He couldnt played one game against the blues in 2006 at the end of the year, he was underdone and only brought into the side as a bonus for working hard through his injury issues. Beau played very well in the second half of the vfl season consistently finding himself in the bests, playing in a position that is unfamilliar to him.

Mitch Thorp would of played in Hawthorns premiership winning side if his past two season hadnt been derailed by hip, knee and groin injuries. He hasnt reaced peak playing fitness during his short tenure at the club which has hampered his performance at Box Hill which hasnt enabled him to push for first team selection.

Beau Dowler has a slight chance of being traded, but Mitch Thorp is definatly a required player. Carlton and Richmond supporters will be kicking themselves in 2 years time when Thorp kicks 40 plus goals in a forward line consisting of Franklin, Williams, (possibly) ROK, Roughead and Rioli.

Claude, i have heard the same thing that he reckons he is top shit, which could be an assumption considering he has a swagger which has been likened to that of Breretons.

You would think that these 2 would be the bait for O'Keefe. Probably a straight swap for one.

As good as I know hawthorn supporters say they are...ultimately there is a tight squeeze up forward. No matter how good you are, when you have been around 3+ years and still have not cemented a spot, you are no longer worth a first round pick.

Injuries of course have played a part for both. Really hampered any chance of settling.

But that doesnt matter. Until other clubs actually see what these guys are like at AFL level consistently, they remain a risk.

Maybe that's all it is, a swagger. Anyway, arrogance is certainly not simply a bad thing... Carey and Brereton were percieved as arrogant, and they were the two best CHFs of the last 30 years.

I for one would love Geelong to make a play for him. I liked what was said about him in the lead up to the '06 draft, and hoped Geelong would snare him with their no. 7 pick... obviously things turned out well for us, but I can still picture Thorp as a gun CHF and would be most pleased for him to have the opportunity of patrolling the Cats' forward line along with Tommahawk for the next 10 years.

Having said all that, I did watch him play once this year against the Cats' VFL side at Box Hill, and he certainly did nothing to impress me that day. Did a lot of yelling and swaggering, but didn't get near the ball enough.

Dave

I think opposition supporters are being harsh when saying they have failed to cement a spot in the best forward line in the competition.

Tom Hawkins is a great example, he is supposed to be a gun and could well have been a number one draft pick has done nothing in a side that doesnt have great forward line, where are the people slatting him.

Thorp has been on Hawthorns list for 2 years the same as Hawkins and like Hawkins his career has been rocked by injuries. People calling for Thorp to cement a spot in the best forward line in the competition after being injured and only on the list for 2 years are asking a lot. Most tall forwards are given 3 years for full development. Look at Gumbleton, Hanson, Thorp, Kennedy and Reid. They are all yet to play consistent good AFL football, which is a result of injuries and slow development.

Mckinley is great example of a player who in his third year has had a good full pre season, 2 years to condition himself and a great opportunity of being the number one tall forward.

Dowler has less excuses having been on the list for 3 years but he has started to work hard and was pushing for selection in Hawthorns premiership side around rd 17 - 22. If Dowler doesnt perform next year i believe his AFL dream will be well and truly over yet i believe he has the attributes and size to become a solid AFL player.

Both these two will be able to add great depth two Hawthorns sides of the future and be able to contribute to the cause.

Huge doubts over dowler. Was badly busted up in a car accident just before he was drafted. I'd steer clear.

Neither are being shopped around but both are available for a good offer. This thread doesn't have any good offers.

They still have great wraps for him he recently signed a two year deal. They are just circulating him around getting an indication of his value. Considering Hawthorn are likely to trade pick 16 for O'Keefe if they could get a first round draft pick for him, they would obviously consider that.

As a rule you should never trade with Hawthorn, and I hope Carlton doesn't fall into the trap of trying to bargin with them during the upcoming trade period. Like Essendon, Hawthorn aren't satisfied unless they're completely ripping off the other team involved in the trade.

Did a Carlton supporter really write that

Ask West Coast about who the poor clubs to deal with are.

Since Dowler spent all of 2006 getting over his broken pelvis (and was still feeling a fair bit of pain from it through 2007) he's basically in the same boat as Thorp as far as time on the list goes.

I have no idea if he'll make it, but the reports from Box Hill of him having 30 touch 2 or 3 goal games running around on the wing playing a Richo-like role late in the season are promising.

The tough thing for Thorp is he missed the pre-season after having hip surgery and just didn't have the fitness all year to play footy, combine that with a couple of injuries and he didn't do a lot. He also started to show a fair bit more late in the season as his fitness built (and these two guys playing well went a long way to Box Hill finally starting to win games late in the season).

I really hope we keep both these guys, and see Thorp at CHB after a full pre-season and Dowler either on the wing or as a third tall leading up to the wing. I'm pretty worried that we'll lose one of them as part of the O'Keefe trade that is looking more and more likely.
