Dawes very good.

McCarthy - Hardest 2nd game player I've seen in a long time.

Fraser is continuing to be slagged off here....

15 touches, 5 marks, 20 hitouts and a goal. That sounds like a pretty solid night out to me.

He just cant tap to advantage consistantly at all. His around the ground work is great, 80% of the taps he gets go to players feet or to 50/50 contests, not to our mids advantage. I really dont think anyone could say he taps to advantage well.

P.S:- I cant believe Wakes didnt cover himself in glory with a goal at the end to cap off his 250th... that would have been one very special moment.

Good win. Favourites heading into the match, had to win it, and we did despite the crappy decisions. My thoughts:

Positives:
- Our backline played a very mature game tonight. Maxwell and Goldsack worked together nicely when isolated one-on-one with their opponents in the D50. A lot of timely spoils, third-man-up contests and marks was a major factor in us holding on for the win.
- Cloke played fairly well for a majority of the match. Kicked 4.2, and took 6 contested marks on what was a windy and rainy day. Very good game by a very good player.
- Swanny! Only had the 15 disposals but his three goals were vital. Kicking was exceptional tonight :thumbsu:

Negatives:
- Often, we were a bit too enthusiastic in playing on and as a result we turned it over/caused a stoppage when we originally had control of the ball in the D50.

I reckon Fraser would look a whole lot better with a Kerr and /or a Cousins running around at the bounce....?

Wakes....if only.

Have to say I thought Maxwell had his best game for a long time as well.

Pretty lousy effort that game was, we're lucky to get the result we ended up with. Port looked a much better side during most of the plays and especially center clearances, which we were killed in, if they hadn't of made some of those clangers at crucial stages it'd be a very different story for the scoreboard.

But other than that there's a lot of positives, especially our new forward line. Very gutsy efforts from Anthony, McCarthy and Goldsack.

But can someone tell me why is O'Bree still playing in this side? I can't believe people are calling out Fraser and Maxwell (who's brilliant) when there's this guy still running around.

I do agree, but I think the ruckman helps the mid look for space. if Fraser had been able to dominate tapping to advantage years ago, our mids would be running into that space, something they dont look for that often. Kerr runs through the tapout situation every time because Cox will get it to him on the run alot more times than not. Only rarely do our mids actually run through these situations on "full pace". Scott Burns did tonight and fraser tapped over his head to Burns Chest... that needs to become second nature to the tap out situation.

Was another ugly match, we really didn't play that well, but still got out with the win.

Cloke just monstered all his opponents, with more supply, in the touch he was today, he could have had 6+.

Davis, Swan and Pendlebury were all solid. (Davis was actually a lot better then solid)
Why wasn't Thomas played in the middle, was he injured, didn't get much gametime?
Either O'Bree shouldn't have played tonight (injured), or he should never play again, he had a shocker.
Our ruckmen got beaten comprehensively, don't give me Frasers statistics, i don't care.

I'm still not sold on Cook, seemed like he was on Burgoyne for a large portion of the night, we seen what happened there. Toovey was pretty solid again, i'm not sure who he was on, but he shouldn't be allowed to follow them into the centre.

Dawes did the things he lacked last week (was good on the ground, decent pressure), seems to get caught behind a bit, but i hope to god he isn't dropped. McCarthy needs to be played the remainder of the season, was very solid, and i like the fact he's lively around goals.

Anyone suggesting we need to pursue J.Brown after tonights game, is so far from the mark. We got smashed in the centre, while our forward line was dangerous all night.

Josh Fraser would be at home in one of the bloody Toyota ads, jumping around in the air like an idiot with arms and legs spraying everywhere.

Everytime at the centre bounce he runs in, jumps and is back on the ground before the ball if within a reachable hit out range.
I love his mobility and I think he adds a lot to our side, but he just continually proves his stupidity with some of his lame ruck work.

Not too much to get excited about.
Positives:
Cook was good and McCarthy is holding his spot well. Goldsack is regaining form. Travis was good but didn't have a match up and should've kicked a bag. Anthony has no fear. Leon was brilliant.

Negatives:
I was ready to tear Thomas a new one on these boards but noticed him limping at the end of the game so I think he's injured (probably from getting cleaned up taking that mark and landing on his side).
We still don't have a ruckman although we all know this and have been saying it for years.
And also... TOOVEY... why oh why...

Dawes very good.

yeah agree with mccarthy , while hes not gettin tonnes of the ball, hes still goes hard at every contest. his attack on the ball is going to be so handy in a few years time once he gets some muscle on him.

i realllllllllllllly like the look of him, i know its his second game but he looks like another piece to our midfield that we need.

dawes also great tonight despite no goals was it ? people bagged him last week about when the balll went to ground he was useless or when his man got the ball he didnt chase. i thought he was good in both those areas tonight and created a lot of opportunity for his team mates around him. as bucks said , keeps his feet so he gives himself every chance when the balls around him.

i just think also he frees up clokey a lot more too, in nearly the same way rocca does

i sound a little over excited for two second gamers , but you cant expect more from eitheir of them. they are both doing well so far

We would've if it was anyone other than Port....or Melbourne.

So you'd rather have lost......

I'm quite excited that we won! Maybe I've just had too much sugar or something but I'm so pleased with the win!!! :D:thumbsu:

Am I the only one that's happy we won!?!?!?:D:p:thumbsu:
Geez, anyone would think we lost or something....:confused:

its pathetic hey , we have a win with a fairly young side and theres still a minority that are still knit picking at players who played reasonably well in shitty conditions in an interstate game. cant please everyone i guess.

Thoughts ? We still aren't a 'great' side . Rucks and clearances a continuing problem that we have managed to paper over on occasion but eventually get found out . Even the quality of clearances count . Some sides , a la Burgoyne , get quality clearances moving forward and we hack something forward .

I always have heart in mouth whenever a side kicks it to the top of our defensive goal square. All too often a goal results .

McCarthy looks okay with a touch of quality , Dawes looks okay but seems hesitant when the balls on the ground . Perhaps that's to do with his knee reco , I'm not sure . He was better tonight but not elite below his knees by any means . Saying that though he does have some tricks there though .

Toovey isn't up to it and I'm an O'Bree fan but shit he turned it over a lot tonight .

What do we need ? Bucks from a 7-8 years ago and Scotty Burns as well would be nice .
Failing that we need to keep our genuine quality , Didak , Leon etc and add a couple of quality mid types for next year and continued improvement from our younger players .
