and let's not forget it was in the same spot where that big oaf dropped his knees into Ablett in the opening minutes of the game.

If Sandilands had really dropped his knees into Ablett, Ablett would still be lying in that spot right now - 125kg at full pace would have done some serious damage. Ablett fell in front of Sandilands and he had no option but to fall as well due to momentum from reaching for the ball. Each knee went either side of Ablett's body - he didn't even bother to remonstrate.

u blokes werent even in the league when afl was at its hardest level, but even back then you didnt see to many dog acts like carr's...dunno wat ur on bout neway, you guys are an underachieving rabble and mite as well wear a netball skirt for 21 rounds of the season coz you basicly only hav a crack in the derby......

Doesn't matter the way footy was played in the past. The way footy is played today is different, whether we like it or not, you can't put hands in the back, you can't chop arms and you can't hold onto your opponent (which has been a rule forever anyway.) The umpire wrote it in his book which is evidence enough.

Whether what happened on friday night happened in years gone by or not is irrelevant, in today's game its against the rules and the players aren't made to expect that kind of rubbish.

I think maybe you have selective memory or never really played when footy was tough and hard?
Sniping and king hits etc were never an acceptible part of the game, yes there were fights but they were generally face to face not casually walk in from the side and then throw a suprise knee in. Its like going to shake someones hand and then when they go to reciprocate throwing a punch into their guts. They aren't expecting it so their reactions are eccentuated.

A bit of a differing view.

I was at the game on friday, after paying my $52 for a ticket amongst the freo members. To be honest, I didnt get one bit of abuse, just a bit of light hearted banter normal carryings on. It was actually the cats fans making more noise calling Crowley an effing dog and getting stuck into soft as butter thornton and screaming like beatles fans when gazza got the ball.

So there ya go a different view on freo fans. I was pleasantly surprised, especially compared to West Coasters. I even heard quite a few respectful comments about Geelong being a good side and 'we could do with Joel Corey' etc etc.

My fellow cats fans on the other hand were carrying on as if Gazza was bloody royalty and who dare a commoner like Crowley touch him.

He had carry over points so any guilty result was going to be games. Probably for the severyity one match for the knee (just to set message for all players that knee'ing is not a legal action) and 1 for the carry over points so 2 matches would have been reasonable. 3 matches with plea to make it 2 also reasonable but 4 with an early plea it is 3 matches a little harsh IMO.
