Just wonering people thoughts on our draft and out picks and wondering who did we rookie list or when does this happen?
We really have got to the point where we do have talent developing on every line now. Kruezer's selection adds to our ruck/KP forward division. We have a lot of developing KP forwards and KP defenders. And our midfield group is getting pretty big as well. So in a way this draft was a bit tricky, because it's a matter of finding the type of player that would add something to this developing list. A smaller defender has been an obvious deficiency. We have been using 188-190cm midfielder types to match up the opposition midget goal sneaks, which has been partly successful, but not ideal. We have plenty of developing height in defense, but no real smalls. So Browne's selection was a good one. Armfield's selection was an interesting one. A bit left-field. He's been in the system a year longer than most others in the draft. Some rate the guy extremely highly, and he may have just fallen through the cracks. He is a smaller midfielder, and that's something we lack for starters. Also very quick, and skillful on both sides, and will probably be ready to debut early than many draftees. There was no point adding another 190cm pacy midfielder to our list, as we already have Walker, Judd, Russell and Grigg. What we need to do is add someone a bit different. Someone closer to Murph's size. If you look through the better performing non-Carlton teams, they invariably have several midfielders around the 180cm mark. We only have Murph, and Eddie when he does his pinch-hitting thing. So Armfield may fill that niche. The PSD and Rookie draft will be interesting. You just get a gut feeling that Swann has something up his sleeve. These selections should be high risk picks IMO. i.e. players with a heap of talent, but are struggling to live up to that ability for some reason. If they don't work out, it's no big deal, because our list is already loaded with top-shelf developing talent. What we are looking for with these picks is X-factor.![]()

He's been playing footy for less than 3 yrs. Ex-rugby boy. At 21 he'd be almost physically ready and has good upside.

Interesting. I didn't know about the rugby background.![]()
The interesting thing about rugby boys is they don't know a lot about running backwards.
I guess Scotland, Houlihan and Thornton didn't play Rugby then.
But yes, there is an imbalance on our list in terms of talls. We have 6 ruckman on our list going into next year. Ackland, Cloke, Kreuzer, Aisake, Hampson and Jacobs (r).
Imo we're probably 1 ruckman overboard there. *nudges Ackland out the door*![]()

yeah because theyre shitWe've got talls coming out of our arrse. We're just not sure where they all fit in yet. Once we went for the gimme in Kreuzer, we were always going to go for mid types to address the imbalance in our list.
Ackland is gone. He can be crossed off now. Just can't see Jacobs breaking into the ruck role. Cloke is going to have to reinvent himself as a KP/tall utility type. Will be tough for him though. Bottom line - there is a lot of competition for spots in our side. And the competition for a spot in the midfield is even hotter. We have all the talent we need now. The real challenge is player development, and getting the team structure and gameplan right.![]()

I can see Cloke being used as our CHF. Waite will stay CHB. Cloke has a great mark, booming kick, and quite honestly, last year he gave every reason for us to believe in him. I think he'll be the goods![]()
could someone tell me whats happening with rookie list? who has been added or when does this happen?
Rookie draft and PSD on December 11th I think.
Putting aside ability, position, etc our three picks are about determination, 1%ers and solid physical footy. Ratts is putting his stamp on the club by injecting some of the features he himself brought to the game. They balance out nicely with last year's more outside selections and bring a bit of hardmess to the table - something we are lacking.
Early days but I appreciate the line of thinking we appear to be taking.
