Thoughts on Meesen

22 HO's, 8 touches (mostly handballs).

I thought he was pretty good, which surprised me a bit seeing as for a year and a half he has been lambasted as not good enough for VFL level.

Best of all, he looked pretty comfortable in the ruck. We know he is an elite endurance runner, so if he break even in the middle and then start to run around a bit as he grows in confidence, we could be onto something.

It's arguable in the space of four weeks he has gone from fourth in the pecking order to our best (see only) option. Funny world.

From an opposition point of view, I thought he had a pretty good game!

Definataly a star of the future, hopefully keeps playing games this year.

Let's not go overboard champ.... certainly looked OK (which is a win for us in the ruck) and as long as he keeps on competing he should get a few more games

Yeah he looked good in the ruck. I think he will grow in confidence aorund the ground. They just need to keep playing him which i've been waiting to happen. A LOT better than Johnson in the ruck!

Sorry,

Hopefully he is a star for you guys in the future.

He had an ok game.

Spencer, Meesen, Jamar and PJ are all of the same caliber.

Which ever 2 out of the 4 play each week wont have much of an effect on the game in my opinion.

Interesting debut, did a couple of good things, but was up against two of the best. Around the ground contests was soundly beaten, but at the centre he was ok, didn't quite jump into the contest enough though. Should improve with a few games. PJ on the other hand is struggling big time.

You would need to check with Adelaide supporters, but I'd declare it his best game of senior footy.

He played much better than any reports from his VFL form last year suggested. Didn't look soft, he covered the ground okay trying to help the defenders and tried well in the ruck, 22HO's is good numbers. Credit to supermerc who declared him not entirely useless after watching his NAB form.

Next week the Spence + Meese show should be unleashed on Richmond. PJ is offering nothing at the moment, the only hit outs he wins go backwards or to the opporsition. Richmonds ruck department aren't superstars so we should really back the young guys. Plus I think they will seriously have to consider either Jurrah or Robbo, most likely the latter and that means PJ isn't needed up forward.

They aren't superstars, but Simmonds will hurt us going forward if we don't pin him down.

I'd play both Jurrah and Robertson to be honest, we need goals, and if you ask me, I think Jurrah is going to be more dangerous around goals than Petterd or a resting PJ.

If we bring in both Robbo and Jurrah we need to let Petterd have a run through the midfield or give him a shutdown role in the backline.
I'm sure Casey would be happy to let have a go at both Dez.

Why would he go back to Casey? Sure he hasn't set the world on fire but the role up forward is a new one for him, if he was allowed to play his usual role in defence with a run through the midfield we'd be seeing better results.

Firstly, it was pleasing to receive confirmation that John Meesen is a real person.

I was actually quite impressed with his performance. He put in a good performance in the ruck, particularly in the centre bounces. His work around the ground was okay, however Brogan hurt us going the other way a couple of times due to a lack of accountability, although he needs to be given time to adjust to the speed and standard of AFL play.

I was also pleased to see him involved in some 1%ers and spoiling. In sum, quite a solid effort, and he should improve with more exposure at AFL level.

And me, who pumped him up for 3 years and never lost faith. :)

I was there yesterday and thought he had a good game. He smashed Lade in the ruck but struggled against the more physical Brogan. He won his fair share of hitouts though and had a few good taps to the midfielders. He worked pretty hard around the ground and made space for himself a few times but was ignored a bit. He didn't stuff up any of his possessions and he didn't look out of his depth.

The talent is STILL there. He's got a long road ahead of him but you don't lose your talent so it could still be found.

He has certainly gone some way towards finding it this year, particularly after last year's underwhelming effort. It is possible last year he required a bit of time to adjust to the transition of moving clubs, but this year he has actually provided something to demonstrate that he is worth persisting with.

He still has plenty of work to do though, but at least he has made a step forward.
