Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

I think it all stems from our rubbish forward line.

As I've said - when the midfield have no confidence in the forward line, they don't move the ball with any speed, they stutter and stop/start, and move the ball sideways.

When we have Burton/Hentschel/Roo down forward and firing, the midfield ball movement was incredible, fast, direct and effective.

Really, our awesome backline has kept us in the mix this year, and that back line is built around Rutten and Bassett, so without them we're ****ed.

I don't know how many more games I can watch where our forward line combination is Perrie and Welsh.

Someone from the AFC has got to find the balls and cut these two friken useless clowns, they arent any part of the future and they should be cut now.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

How badly was MATTNER shown up in 1 on 1 marking contests today ??
How badly was MASSIE shown up for the same thing.
How badly was TORNS shown up for the sasme thing.

Take BASSETT and RUTTEN out and what have you got ??

What was torney doing up on Pavlich's head? a contested mark always has one player at advantage quick kicks forward had Torney flat footed once, leading marks are about how well the player kicks to you even Perrie couldn't drop Reilly's kick. He played on Headland who has done barely anything Torney is one of the best of field for us.
Bock can't compete with Pavlich, he drops chestmarks and is poor moving the ball poor at ground level and in the air atleast McGregor can do something in the air Bock just gets tapped aside.
Same with Perrie who we couldn't of had far enough away from the ball today outside of the stadium selling t-shirts or something might of helped.

Running forward to score opens up the back line then someone makes a stupid mistake handballs to an opponent like Doughty or kicks to them like Perrie, Bock, Massie, Mcleod and Reilly even and there is so much space because McLeod is at Half forward to try and score and Johncock is already down there because we have passengers that are meant to be key forwards and are horrible targets that can't mark or kick which the rest of the team has to make up for.
Maric could stand to have some more awareness in 1%'s with shepherding other then that he looks good out there.
Mattner is no back man he doesn't have the size or overhead ability he could be a crumbing forward if played on the wing for more freedom and he is very damaging in that part of the field.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

I didn't watch the game, was listening to it on SEN, from what they were saying the ball skills were woeful, missing targets, fumbling, turning the ball over a fair bit. Signs of low confidence, Crows typically have exceptional ball handling and decision making skills.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Thoughts on the game? Was crap. Had enough of Adelaide's crap form this season. We have a lot better side than we are showing.

Doughty .....very very average yet again .....wrong options, fumbling ......OK from a tier one player that happens occasionally but Doughty is a good backboner ....well he was ....his time could be coming if he keeps this up ..

He's a gun, keep him in.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Thought on the game... Neil Craig was out coached, outclassed, out shone, out everything by a bloody debutant. No he cant take the blame for poor disposal and execution by my god he certainly can for match-ups, selection and the snail pace he makes changes - if he does at all. this loss hurts cause its the final realisation we aint very good...

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Neil Craig has lost it as a coach. He hasn't improved an inch from his original coaching style.

What was he doing today? Reading the new Harry Potter and hoping for some magic? Pretending our footballers are cyclists again?

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

The second half was some of the laziest football I've seen the Crows play for a long time.

Don't shout me down here guys, but i noticed Steven Dodd was covered in sun screen.

Was it a warmer than average day ? Maybe the reason your blokes ran out of legs. :thumbsu:

About 17c mate.

Sun was out, but still pretty bloody cold.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Full Time Report:

McGregor ......Dead Man walking
Can't play up forward ...can't play up Back .......slow bigmen are dinasours!!!

Actually was a great game of footy with both teams continually coming back and then losing control of the game.

Just thought Freo always had more composure than us, tackled harder and got their goals a little too easy.

Please do not rubbish todays effort!! ....it was nip and tuck ....and if you want young players to be played then you have to expect this level of incosistency as they learn about the game ......so plaese DO NOT rubbish todays effort

Thought the "old Timers" of Edwards, Goodwin and Macleod really tried to give us a chance but there just wasn't enough support particularly around stoppages where we were thrashed.

Freo had lost Sandilands and played young Warnock but Freo continually took the ball away from stoppages an area of the game where once we were the benchmark of the AFL.
The young midfielders are either not working hard enough, running to the right position or just do not have the physical capabilities ATS to do the job for 100mins?????
Very often our players looked for the support player to back him up, run past or sheperd for him and that [player just wasn't there.

Losing Rutten thru our whole structure into disarray and we never looked to have a settled structure all day as we tried to find places to "hide" McGregor

Reilly showed how to pass into the forwards and how the forwards are madse to look better than they are when the delivery is right .......this crap about our forwards from supporters is starting to frustrate me as the high kick and hope of some of our inexperienced and experienced midfielders gave our forwards no chance.

Kicking to 2 on one .....kicking to the disadvantage side of our leading forward ....just rubbish and says midfielders have to be the priority for this draft.

Our tackling, once a real indicator of how the side was going was just BAD ......we're having trouble laying tackles and when we do the opposition on most occasions is able to get a positive handball away.

Douglas: not physically up to it YET ......was really laboring at stages ...is not using his pace ands therefore really doesn't have a strong aspect to his game ATS which makes him anymore than a liability ......but Iam glad the club is "giving" him games albeit mainly from the bench.

The other thing Iam noticing is when he gets the ball his instinct AP is to give off rather than like last season ...take them on
Playing too conservative which says his self belief AP is wavering and he's not playing with the confidence his game needs to be successful.

Doughty: for those who have read my posts over a period of time I have really supported Doughty as a good backbone player.
Well he's still doing the job OK but but IMO he's now in the category that a young player who has more of an upside should replace him .........his life cycle as a Crows player is definately on the downside

Thompson: great first half .....really disappeared after half time and looked to have run himself into the ground .......that happens when there's insufficient support from the rest of the midfield group.

Knights: look he'll be a good player ....but at present he's out of the game for too long a periods of the game.

Last week and again today he was very good early and seems to disappear in the second half of games .......generally in a young player due to physical fatigue OR mental fatigue ......I'd suggest in his 3rd year a bit of both ......but it does leave us exposed when these young players can only play as we know they can for half a game.

Van Berlo: not good today .....don't look at number of possessions ....he panicked a lot today ....fumbled ....and was pretty ordinary with his disposals generally beacuse he felt pressured all game .....all credit to Freo's pressure.

Shirley: sorry Cro Mo ...I know he's either your brother or a REALLY close friend ;) ....but Josh Carr showed why Freo gave up a first round pick for him as a tagger and why no club would think of trading for Shirley.

He's an average battler that provides some grunt but very little talent and today well from the couch I didn't notive him playing really so can't make too many comments on his game

Carr ...quick on his feet ...important in close spaces and that initial acceleration required to get to the ruck taps or the opposition player with the ball.
Tackles hard and sets up Freo's plays ....

We need more players with that side movement ...fleet of early foot speed for our midfield .....Shirley is always 10 mtrs behind.

Mattner: For Gods sake play the kid on the wing where he cemented his position in the Crows and along with Burton the two most dangerous wigmen in the AFL ........so waht do we do the neaxt saeson ....move him into defence .....real bright says me

Bock: Always threatens to be awesome ........will he always just be potential or will he one day deliver on all the promise he shows

Maric: Love this kid!!! .....clearly a better ruckman than Hudson ....his hands are so much better now since joining the Crows ....one grab, vice like .......clearly needs more time on the ground ....gives us more options than Hudson ....maybe justa fitness level thing??

Reilly: can't miss this kid .......his disposal is first class ....he now is apearing to have so much time to dispose of the ball, a trait of good players .....twists and turns thru traffic very much like Edwards who like Reilly is not super quick but uses evasion skills to get clear.

I'd suggest Reilly has been studying Edwards quite a lot.

Perrie: He plays a role ......His efforts in the 3rd got us going again ...he'll never be a star and there will definately be better players that come along ....but he's in my side AP and always gives a contest.

It's who we put around him that is critical.

Welsh: Not sure where he played today ...appeared to be out at HF a lot ....he was one grab all day, made the right decisions ....but he didn't look to be playing FF

Funny game from him to judge accurately?

Steven Dodd covered in Zinc cream says more about Steven Dodd than the weather in Adelaide today

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

The second half was some of the laziest football I've seen the Crows play for a long time.

However they played today ....Lazy is NOT the description

They were out tackled ...had less clearances ....a better midfield system IMO but we were not Lazy ....the guys all tried their guts out today

So basically we need players that will win back possession after he has turned the ball over.
Burton crashed packs today Burton took marks today, seeing as Perrie is quite useless in most situations he could at least break packs or
contest to our advantage when it's delivered to him not knock it directly to the opposition or kick to them or their advantage.
He made one good play today anything else he was involved in was his team mates work or skilled kicking.

WW, stop using lots of full stops to write your replies. It makes them really hard and annoyng to read.

Thanks.

Burton embarrassed our 'full time' forwards today.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Whilst we continue to play crabs like Perrie and Bock up forward we are going to struggle. My grandma in her wheelchair could move faster than those blokes. Perries kick in the backlines typified his game. I am sick of tires ofpeople saying he works hard. I work hard at hings too and it does not mean i am ever going to be any good.

Howmany times did Freo just walk and run the ball out without little or no pressure.

Its time to take some risks FFS.

How much longer are we going to put up with this crap?

Massie, Doughty are taking places of youngsters who need encouragement. Both made some bad errors today. We need to give Campbell, Sellar, Gill, etc some games to see whether we they can play or not.

i am sick and tired of the same old players being tried over and over again and some players being put in the wrong positions.

Craigy please put Mattner on the friggin WING. At least try him there.

Kenny looked completely out of his depth at FB - why wasn' he changed earlier.

We have too many players who are simply not good enough and who are not playing to their form of past years eg Doughty. He is slowing up.

Lets try and take a few risks for heaven sakes. PLaying safe is NOT WORKING!!!! i REPEAT NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Today's game showed we are not going to win big games with the players we had in this side.

If we had played a few more young players earlier in the year we may have found a few players a la Collingwood and Hawthorn.

We need to try a few different things as 8 wins and 8 losses suggests this group of players is not setting the world on fire.

My players at risk are:
Perrie
Kenny
Doughty
Massie

Bock is far too inconsistent.

So is Stevo.

Mattner needs to play on the wing. Bring in McIntyre to the BP - to see how he goes and putting Marty back to where he belongs. I saw Marty play the other night on the wing and he looked good. Just give it a try Craigy.

Bring in Gill - Perrie FFFs cannot even hit targets on the field that a schoolboy could hit. Time to go Ian. Sorry everybody i have had a gutful of him missing targets. So what if heworks hard ....... no good if he gives it back to the opposition.

Lets see if Campbell can play. At least we can see whether he is up to it or not. If we dont play them why did we recruit them inthe first place.

How many times did VB screw it up today? Nearly every time he took the wrong option. Mind you he had some mates. Doughty my god - another week of a rabbit in the headlights. Thommo - just kick it son. Edwards just kick it!!!! Either they were at fault or we had no-one to kick to.

Craigy you need to take a good hard look at the direction of the club. When you came you said you would play the younger players to provide us with some long term success. Well what has happened this year? i do not expect you to pick every new player in the side at the one time but at least give a few more a go anf lets try and put some players in their right positions.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

We have too many average players playing.

Really missing Rutten and Bass down back.

Why oh why is Mattner not on the wing.

Maybe if we played MCintrye or Gill he could have played on the wing.

FFS Craigy is that hard to see where he plays best.

Lets give a few of the other players a chance to see if htey can add to the mix.

If you dont have a go you never never know.

Totally agree, this damn conservative approach from craig is really getting to me now that it is blatently obvious 'ALOT' of the players playing now are not good enough to give us a crack at the real prize let alone make the finals at this state. Mainly pointing out Perrie, Welsh, Doughty and to some extent Shirley (just love the way he gives it his all). I mean these guys have had enough bloody chance to make up for past errors and yet never put in good consistent games week in week out (doughty doesnt count cos we might as well play with 17 men on the ground). For crying out loud it's about time we blooded in some new player, i mean we got Gill (who was supposed to be 'ready to go' when we got him and yet he hasnt had a game yet, also the same with more emphasis on Campbell can be said. If those 3 i have mentioned are not out of the team against the bombers i'm dead set gonna have it with this conservative narrow minded views from the craig regime i mean FFS we've lost too many games at home for once and too many that we shouldn't have lost.

Craig if you want the season to be alive and have a crack at september make some damn changes and make them for next week!!!!!

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

You have to remember that good sides are based on team work and continuity of the same players around you that it pressure games you know each others movements.

Our injuries this year have kept us unsettled ...not allowed players to get to know players around them and not allowed us to develop our "team" game.

Skill drop off is a result of coming back from long term injuries

Young players are going to be incosistent ....if you want to play youth .....get used to it!!!

Getting rid of Perrie and replacing him with say Sellar of Gill who haven't demanded a game achieves what exactly???
Will they come into the side full of confidence from the SANFL or apprehensive beacuse they can't find the ball in the SANFL.

I'm all for getting youth into the side .........love it in fact .....but IMO 4 undr 20 game players at once would be a real limit and we're already seeing our game break down at critical stages because of that number.

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

Shirley should be dropped as well as Perrie. Let some younger players have a go, such as Sellar.

Bock should have never stood on Pavlich

Re: Thought On The Fremantle Game

- Freo only went inside 50m 44 times but kicked 20 goals.
- Pav took 7 marks inside 50 and was clearly the best player on the ground.
- Rutten didn't play and McGregor and Bock were not up to the job on Pav. Stevens wasn't tried.

Everything else is insignificant to the result IMO.

Why???? ......that to me was a good matchup?

Who would you have put on him??? ....frankly Bock in todays team was the ONLY suitable matchup .....unless you wanted Massie ;)
