Essendon
I thought I remembered a thread here pre-season but can't seem to find it - feel free to merge if so

It's over, Essendon won three games.

Was that what you thought?

I remember some people actually suggested it'd be 5+.

Others were absolutely adamant Essendon wouldn't even get close to one win.

Where did you stand? What do you think of it now?

Personally I had us down for 1 - 2 wins, so it went a bit better than I thought. I did think they'd come later in the year against teams out of the finals race, so the Melbourne game really surprised me.

Any observations? Has it changed your perception of the strength / quality of the AFL competition? If nothing else it's an interesting experiment in that sense.

Don't know what I thought at the start of the year, but I only tipped you twice this year...

To be fair, you beat 2 shit teams at the end of the season with nothing to play for while Melbourne are Melbourne. Doesn't say anything about quality of the comp just those particular sides.

Essendon board.

I had them down for 0, although I made that prediction before they got Kelly and co. I thought they'd be getting just VFL players not recent AFL players. It's been good to watch Essendon this year and they've done better than expected. Still a disastrous year though. If you had've told the average Bomber fan in January this year that they'd finish bottom (pending Brisbane) with 3 wins they'd be pretty gutted. Joe D has been the most impressive thing about their season. Should be really good next year with a stronger midfield. Some young guys have had great years too and Zaka has really stepped up.

I'm not sure it's gonna be the quick rebound they expect when they get the drug cheat players back next year. Their kids have given them some hope for their long term future though.

I always said they'd win 3 or 4 games. Impressed with Woosha's work with the team under those circumstances. Well done to the fans who stayed true and went to the games knowing it was always going to be a tough season to truly enjoy.

Given those three sides compete every week in the comp in question, then yes, it is actually relevant to the discussion of the quality of the comp.

I had them pinching one or two games. It's not like they claimed big scalps though, two teams that are pretty bad and a Melbourne team that is inconsistent at the best of times.

To be honest it's a surprise to me. I thought it'd be either zero or one.

How does this work? You beat three shit sides. That relates more to those 3 sides than the comp as a whole.
