I think tonight showed great signs with a team of only 7 senior players (Richo, newman, mcmahon, brown, hyde, simmonds, bowden). All the talk of wallace not playing the kids i feel couldnt be further from the truth. With bowden and hyde to be dropped hopefully for a mix of polo, hughes, king and thursty in the coming weeks it will be a big test of our young charges against port, blues, eagles in the next 3 weeks. Win or lose we are on the right path, i have enjoyed this year already and being competitive until the end of the year will give us a real crack at finals next year.

Wallace is our man, finally we have a coach with some balls who has the best interests of the rfc at heart despite what some posters believe. By the end of the year the last of the unsuccessful cancer will be chopped from our list:thumbsu:.

I enjoy everyones reports particularly those on coburg matches, being on the gold coast makes it hard to attend.

Go tigers!!! lets win the next few weeks and have a chance at the finals i for one can see light at the end of the tunnel. It has been a very long 28 years of my life following the rfc.

dont forget pettifer, only with him in the team will you play quality football.

would i be right in saying that kane johnson provides blocks for foley in the centre. Everytime johnson is out foley possessions drop, all those kane bashers may not see the little things he does for our young midfielders. I feel we are still a midfielder down and coughlan could be the missing piece in the puzzle. If he could get back he will take over from johnson in this role. Where will johnson fit into our team next year?? Could he be a handy foward pocket(negate their run) and hopefully kick a few himself??

If our future is bright who will replace Richo? How about our rucks? This team is as soft as butter under pressure. To be in the finals regularly we need to be killers, to smash opposition from time to time. They dont have the killer edge.I remember Wayne Campbell saying that Northey was very intense before a game and thats why the Tigers meant business under him.We need a tough man to helm this club.

Johnson's kicked about 12 goals in his career.:thumbsd:

Sugar will end up in the back pocket taking the opposition's most dangerous small forward IMO. I'm guessing the switch may even be made by the end of the season given Cotchin's progress.

Johnson will still be in the midfield rotation...You don't play 3 mids in the modern game, you have about a 8-10 guys who rotate through there, and another half dozen on the wings/flanks.

As for replacing Richo...I doubt we'll ever have a 'like for like' replacement, but we do have a guy who has kicked 11 goals in the past 2 weeks for Coburg who seems to be coming on nicely. Why doesn't he play in the 1's? Because he plays the same spot as Richo, and they'd get in each others way.

I agree Telsor. Sugar will still be rotated through the midfield - especially for defensive reasons. But his defensive skills and the emergence of Cotchin,Lids, Bling etc. will enable him to cover one of our weaknesses (i.e. small opposition forwards).

Great to see the foundations Wallace has been laying starting to show their capabilities.

Was a great performance by the RFC coaching staff yesterday.. they did a great job to craft a win against a strong challenge by Melbourne

I am more worried about our future after yesterday's game than I was before it. We have noone up forward to replace Richo, Simmonds is on the wane and Brown won't be around for that much longer either. These three guys have been holding the side together.

I would like to see Cleve given a chance and would like to see Graham have a run before the end of the season too.

Not sure if we should persist with Schulz and why isn't Polak playing CHB (that's what he was drafted for).

Not sure about that, as the potential replacements are yet to be really put to the torch and we would be entitled to say are very much still in development mode

Simmo.....Graham/Putt
Brown...Connors/Collard
Richo....Hughes/Gourdis/Putt/2008 R1 pick

Johnson will not be able to take the oppositions most dangerous small forward. he hasn't got the pace, nor does he have the quality disposal under pressure to be dangerous the other way. Sugar is a very good player in the midfield. His kicking and decision making can be questionable but what he does do is so important.

I am a bit worried about Foley and Newman though. During Sunday's game i noticed two things which seemed a little off. Foley running down the wing with K Moore and instead of shepherding the player chasing was calling for the ball when he was in no better position and an extra disposal would have just confused the leading forwards. That is selfish stat chasing. And Newman yelling at JON when he took a quick kick out trying to move the ball on to a free Richo. Fair enough they are trying to be onfield leaders but that doesn't mean hogging the ball and going off at players that take their opportunities or stat chasing. Hope the coaching staff noticed and the problem is nipped in the bud.
