Surely he is in line for a Rising Star- or is he too old?Where do I sign
But would the AFL tick off on that deal though given there's cohesion between two seperate deals?

He has not knocked back anything. You do know he knocked back a contract extension? Said his family was still settling and will wait to the end of the year.
Sure this could simply be his manager pushing for a better deal.
This article is the reason a few more discussions are now being held about his availability / family situation. Its not just because he's playing well.
And Harry TaylorAnd Mitch Duncan.
Luckily we've built a culture where established players rarely leave.

Must be under the age of 21
I’ve always thought it’s a crap rule
Jayden Hunt last year was a revelation and IMO would’ve won it with a leg in the air
I think after a certain age though their bodies are that much more mature and able to handle the rigours of AFL crash-and-bash life. Of course a 23 year-old is gonna be more seasoned and hence play better than an 18 year old kid straight outta high school.
It could be seen as a tad unfair to the kiddies. Maybe a 'mature-aged' category needs to be introduced?
Geez you're hard to please. There’s been a few players who have won the rising star and have not became a star.
I think it should be for any first year player and should have its name changed from Rising Star to best first year player
Exactly the same the AFLPA award
It’s in the wording
It’s in the wording
Star!
Out of those players how many are stars?
When I got up to Joel’s name I counted 7
Anyway this isn’t about my shit opinion, it’s about the fact a future star can start his career at 28
Their should be no age bracket

28...Wouldn't that be classed as a Setting Star rather than a Rising Star?![]()

I'm pretty sure there is an award for those that don't qualify solely for the rising star.I’ll answer you by quoting myself

I think it's either a players association award or a league wide award. The Brownlow

Best first year player.
The best first-year player award, which has been given out since 1998, is awarded to the best player in his first year on an AFL list by his peers.
It’s why mature-age recruits such as Melbourne’s Mitch Hannan and Geelong’s Tom Stewart — who both became mainstays of their respective clubs’ best 22 in 2017 — have been nominated for the award.
I've skipped the last 2 pages so bare with me, but everything I've heard is Kelly is actually more unlikely than likely to head back to WA as he's a bit burned on the fact both WA clubs constantly overlooked him and he's very thankful (and has fitted in well) to the GFC for giving him his chance to make it.
His wife is apparently doing ok down here and the club is 100% hands on and supportive.
There's a reason none of our interstaters leave to go home. None.
Thanks, I thought so. You'd think Kelly would be in the lead at present.AFLPA Best First Year Player-
from last year:

Seems that there is still a tendency to go with the younger guys, but one would hope that if Kelly continues his form that he is given serious consideration otherwise it just comes a regurgitation of the Rising Star
