Probably should've posted this before he made his hundred (looks more of a bandwagoning topic now :p), but I've been watching him all series and he looks the goods with both bat and gloves to me. Don't watch a lot of domestic cricket so this is the first time I've had a good look, but yeah....better with the gloves than Haddin it seems.

Thoughts on where young Tim is headed?

Definitely better gloveman than Haddin. How good was Paine's leg side stumping in the 4th? one dayer. Doesn;t have the explosiveness of haddin but maybe more consistency.

Either way good to get some games into him definitely a player for the future.

I think he should sneak into Haddin's house and stab him to death. THat way the selectors minds will be made up.

Yeah obviously being a Tassie supporter I've been on the bandwagon a while, was stoked to see him get his maiden ton.

And yeah he is definitely a better keeper than Haddin, and although Haddin's a better bat Paine is pretty good. Should be clearly the no. 2 choice for Aus keeper.

Very impressive once he gets going with the bat. The only problem i have had with him this series is that i like quick scorers at the top of the order to give us good starts but i guess he could be a solid player that sticks around at a strike rate around 75 while Watto or someone scores at a run a ball.

BTW much rather play him than Haddin.

He is no slower than Sean Marsh at least. I actually think he'd be perfect with say Dave Warner at the top of the order. I do rather Watson in the middle order.

Thanks for your "efforts" B Haddin, that will do...
If you take all of the extra byes that Haddin lets through each game off his batting average, his batting average isn't that great.

Its great to finallly see a wicket keeper playing for Australia, and not a speed hump who simply slows the ball down so the ball doesn't hit the boundry at pace.

I honestly could handle Haddin playing as a batsman and Paine Keeping, but it isn't going to happen. Haddin is a great batsman but at best an average keeper. Paine is a steady batsman but an excellent keeper. I know which one i would prefer.

If he continues with this method he could well pass Haddin. He has the Champions trophy to really make a name for himself. He has the technique to bat out the whole innings or most of it, just needs the guy at the other end to do the hitting. If he can look for singles a bit more often that would help.

That will come with time aussie.

You cant expect a player to just walk into International Cricket at 24 and start nudging singles every time.

He'd still be nervous, he'd realise how big of a chance this is for him and he will want to make sure he does all he can to secure his spot.

If that means leaving a few more balls than we're used to, so be it.

He knows what he's trying to do and he's doing it.

Yea agree, not expecting him to be at the point where he can pick singles up quickly as its not his game atm. As long as hes not throwing his wicket away he will go just fine.

Exactly right.

We saw him throw his wicket away in the 5th match, coming down the pitch and the bowler dropped it in short and Paine helped it on it's way to a short-fine leg.

He batted so well last night, crunching the bad balls for four through the offside, even going down the ground for a 6, he looked really comfortable in his role as Australian opener last night, which is a very, very good thing.

I think he'll be the keeper for a very, very long time.

He's got plenty of time on his side too, there's no reason he should be left out, even when Haddin is fit.

It depends on what your definition of a better batsman is, but otherwise being a native Tassie boy and a Tigers supporter myself yes, I've been on his bandwagon for years now.;)
Picked up on a rookie contract for Tasmania at 16 years of age, that's how much the Tigers must have seen in him.:)
Very clean gloveman and, while he doesn't have the explosiveness of Haddin, is a very technically correct batsman who can play many shots and is quite attractive to watch.
Was stoked to see it watching a replay of the game this morning.:thumbsu:

People are forgetting how good Haddin is. He has been our best ODI batsmen over the past 18 months. I really like the look of Paine but Haddin is still our man.

People are remembering how bad Haddin's glovework is, couldn't give two shits about ODI's. Would trade 1000 ODI losses to England in exchange for the Ashes.

Too costly in the field, move on Bradley, keep your baggy green in the shed.

His glovework is far superior to Haddins ..and his batting is more technically correct ..he would make a great test player..the only area where Haddin has him covered is in the slogging department.

I had my doubts when he came in ..but now i'm sold on him .

Consistency seems to be his main issue. I am surprised seeing his stats from last season given his technique, he should be averaging 40+ easy and definitely should have made a 100 last season.

Haddin is a great slogger, he is also a shocking keeper. I wouldn't trust him to catch an STD from a prostitute. He would some how stuff it up!

essentially we have 3 keepers to choose from.

I think Manou is the best with the gloves, but Paine is stil very very good.

Haddin is way behind them all, but his explosive batting holds him in better stead.

The selection of either three really depends on team balance;

If we want a good keeper with a pinch hitting batsmen down the order, its manou.

If we want a good keeper who is solid at the top of the innings without being explosive, its Paine.

If we want a batsman before we want a keeper, then haddin is the go.

I can see haddin being used as a specialist batsmen in the shortened form of the game, think Paine would be a much better Test player than Haddin.

Manou will probably be used as a back up for years to come.
