Time for a new coach

At sixes and sevens on this one.

Realistically, we are only 2 players away from being a top team.
One in the backline, and a mid-fielder. A key forward on the wish list wouldn't be bad either.

I think the Jonathon Hay saga hit us harder than people think. That would have released spud to the midfield. And JWS with his ankle- well, who knows what could have happened. All would have been good with the world.

Dean is fine leave him alone.

Playing guys who can't get a kick will not make us a good team.

Finishing bottom for 4 years will not make us a good team.

We are going to make finals again this year. and we will make a better fist of it.
I can't see us winning the cup, but anyone who thinks playing the youngsters who can't get a kick is kidding themselves.

Ross and Gav deserve a go. and Smith deserves a few games. but people who think all these other players should be in ahead of Grant or Jones or whoever are losing it.

I saw the "Grant" thread that had a few people having a crack at Shagger and I found it quite amusing.

13 possessions, 4 tackles and 2 goals, 2 behinds from a half forward flanker against a side that superfloods and killed us in the middle, was a solid effort.

I can feel I'm about to get flamed hardcore...

Let's try and lure Mark Williams over

Yeah well one would think that the buck stops with Laidley when it concerns selection.

Agreed, and your point is.... ?

If you're suggesting that a coach who got us into the finals last year should be changed over because he took a poor side away on an interstate trip, then I can't agree.

I didn't rate him as a coach when he started, but as the years have gone on, he has become a very good coach. I'd be happy if he became our coach.

Ummmm . . . .

No.

If Mark Williams was available, why wouldn't you want him? He's taken Port to 2 (or was it 3?) minor premierships, and won them a flag. I think he's gotten better as a coach and his media skills have improved over the years. Despite the flogging they received in the Grand Final last year, nobody expected them to get as far as they did.

This strikes me as the kind of thread that would endear the club to Bigfooty (or vice versa) :thumbsu:

As for a new coach, what about Groucho Marx?

I wouldn't support a club that would have Groucho as a member (err, coach...)

Mmm...some delusional people on here!

Dean is now the 4th longest serving coach at NMFC.

Ok, so we have played 4 finals and only lost by about an average of 80 odd in 3.

Make me the coach.....simple....when Wells and Smith get the ball at HBF, run and nail the guy on the wing!

That guy on the wing would be Leigh Brown.

See ? Not as easy as you think.

Oh, thanks for being so condescending ..I see you also think I would be stupid enough to put Brown on a wing but the point still stands as Eddie Sansbury played a decent game on the wing against Brisbane once.

Wells got about 32 in the back line and hit him in the clear and stride every time.

Clearly you must be satisified with 17 possessions a game and 1 goal for the season from Wells.

This "Lower" your eyes and handballing for us is just rubbish.

McLeod, Johncock and Burgoyne create and we have 2 guys with an open field in front of them that can do the same.

Unfortunately Dean does not want his players to have the same vision and is just a copycat from Ballarat coz West Coast and Geelong handball.

Why not? His talent development is spot on and is pretty sound tactically.

I'm sure he's all of those things. But I have an almost violent negative reaction to him. I'm not sure why. I'm prepared to concede it's not rational.

I think Laids has done a great job.Especially as we have 92.5% of our salary cap to play with.
In the next 2-3 years we will know if Laids can match it with the best coaches but for now he is doing very well.
At last!!! Through all the twaddle a sane post...couldn't agree more :thumbsu:

I think Laids has done a great job.Especially as we have 92.5% of our salary cap to play with.

Just how does the salary cap affect his coaching? If we pay 100%, does that mean that the players will kick the ball better? Will they make better decisions? If we slip an extra $20,000 a year into Brown's paypacket, will he finally justify his spot in the side?

You might say that the salary cap space allows us to poach another team's key player, but how often does that happen? Clubs are forever claiming that they've got salary cap space to tempt another club's players, but it rarely happens. Clubs may have been circling Geelong's out of contract players, but most of them are taking pay cuts to stay with the club.

With the amount of money on offer Laidley will be as good as it gets. More beefed up in the football development area, but in the scheme of things we are lagging well behind most others. (Melbourne)
Choc has plenty of staff in his arsenal and this is just as crucial along with his undoubted nouse.
We must get more out of the Wells, Sinclairs, Smiths, Browns, Hales and gang in terms of output and just getting them up and running on the park. We can't continue to fall back on Shagger, Boomer, Corey, Simmo, Rawlings and Harris for too much longer. St Kilda face a similar dilemna now. Campbell and Thomas are great, but where do we go to take the next step?

I think he's done a great job as well, but there are some characteristics that I don't believe are helping NMFC, which may have also been holding other teams back, like the Don's.

Inclusion of favorite players e.g. Bolten and Heff's for Essendon, like wtf? They were shit, but Sheeds persisted for no good reason. Same with Laids with Brown, Sansbury, Watt et al. You look at other teams, MOST of their players have justified their spot in the team and are not included just cuz they were obtained for pick 46 in the previous years draft. Imagine if Laidley coached St.Kilda, Shane Birss would still be getting a game combining with Ferg Watts.

Having only 92.5% of the sal cap the play with is remarkable seeing as we were a top4 side last year, but I am intrigued to see how our list would look and operate from a fresh pair of eyes

All I'm saying is, not all change should be regarded with hostility.

Example:
Harding moves into the backline - met with anger from a few - turned out OK.

Cool. :thumbsu:
