We had no hope of top 4 after surrendering those early rounds due to our crap pre-season, but we would've comfortably made the 8 still with Tex

I'm not sure whether I agree with this. We needed 6 more wins to make top 4. Now I assume there's no games that we actually won which we would have lost with Tex in the team. We could easily have won the following games with him in the side:

Round 5 v Carlton (when he actually did his knee)
Round 6 v Hawthorn (11 point loss)
Round 10 v Freo (7 point loss)
Round 15 v WCE (6 point loss)
Round 16 v Collingwood (27 point loss but we were within a goal in the last quarter)
Round 19 v Port (4 point loss)
Round 21 v Bulldogs (17 point loss - up by 4 goals in the 3rd quarter)

Even with Tex, I wouldn't say we were certainties or even more likely than not to make the top 4. But the pre-season had the intended effect, we finished the year full of running, and had we jagged a few more of those early wins we might have been in the running. We might also have had a lot more confidence through the middle part of the season and done things a bit more comfortably in some of those games that we threw away (I'm looking at WCE, second Showdown and the Dogs).

This should be permanently attached to any posts you make, mate :p
Necessity... how much inside info are we ever fed?

Even Tippetgate the most heavily reported and public scandal in our history we are still trying to piece things together

I guess we could have done it potentially, and Tex is god like. The big question is if he lost any of his powers when they cut his brilliant locks off.

Seriously though I think we were a bit too rabblesome to make top 4 even with the great man. Maybe if we had a better selection policy from the outset. I hope that is the key take home message from this season, not to gift games to out of form players and hope they find form in the firsts. Apart from losing Tex, a lot of the adversity we faced was of our own making.

It does help if you don't automatically dismiss anything & everything that the club does say as being "lies and propaganda"...
