The first option would be for his detractors within the ALP to pull their heads in and support him but it's now evident that this is unlikely to happen. The longer the rift within the party continues, the worse off the party is. Although there isn't a standout performer to replace him, the ALP are better off giving a new face 2 1/2 years to gain the trust and confidence of the people.

I think you are right he wont last till Easter.
I would go for Rudd and Gillard as his deputy.

Yes there is...the Mark Latham who kicked heads the Mark Latham who beat up taxi drivers.

Whoever his advisors were before the election should be shot. He got the gig because of his hardness and he loooked and sounded like a pussy.

Bring back the biff

It doesn't matter who they put up. The ALP is utterly bereft of talent due to its incredibly shallow talent pool - union hacks and parliamentary staffers.
in your extremely biased opinion

Sounds like the Libs of the 80s.

Multuply this type of comment by about 250,000 - then you have the amount of similar remarks about Howard throughout his career.

Trouble is ALP pollies have more pride than to hang around and you'll get in eventually.

By that logic Crean could be PM one day

have to admit they do need to give someone else a go, Smiths the man
Agree that someone new is needed, but Smith is a wimp. I cannot imagine him even remotely coming close to reversing the current decline and controlling the brawling factions. Not a bad move to leave Latham to self destruct though, as he is currently providing unity between the factions in their desire to get rid of him. My personal choice would be Rudd as the Australian people seem to have a penchant for conservative faces at this time. Rudd is intelligent, better versed than Downer on international issues, able to calmly disect Costello and is far too patient for Johnny to enjoy trying to pick on him.

Long term I hope Gillard gets a gig, but she is still too raw and she still has a tendency to lose control under pressure. Doesn't look like Australia will be getting a woman PM in the forseeable future.

Illogical nonsense. Mark Latham is an intelligent man and will be Prime Minister of this country.

What I find interesting is that those who are really having a crack at Latham, are those who have had their time pass them by (read McMullin).

Maybe it would be ideal for the ALP to send a message as a party to remove the destablising influences by dis-endorsing the future candidacy of those speaking out, because it is fair to say that it isn't helping anyone.

Hammer Nail head.

Latham is just a lame duck leader. If the ALP are serious about being an alternative govt, they need to owrk more as a team. The division and back stabbing are akin to the Libs of the 80s.

Time for Latham to swallow his pride and excuse himself from the job for the benefit of the Aussie public and the ALP.

Your stupidity is frightening.

No, I think it's time for you to excuse yourself from this forum for fear that people will want to report you to the Police for being a danger to yourself!

This would be funny if it wasn't so true. Wading pool only The Labor gene pool is even more shallow. That is how they come up with primeval Latham.

Bunsen Burner is right in a round about way although I don't think it is Latham so much as his advisors. Someone gave him very poor advice at the last election and despite being the most popular opposition leader in history he proved unelectable. They went backwards and they shouldn't have gone backwards. It is also arguable that Latham is still in denial about the election result. Latham is taking Labor nowhere.

Me thinks you have to get a new researcher!

Me thinks that every one who has a career and is a member of a union has been misrepresented!

Me thinks you're a typical Liberal - scare tactics are the norm!
