Its been in the news today and just wanted to know everyones thoughts.

Just to be clear it was one extreme feminist on social media who called for the ban, it hasn’t been called for by any legitimate child advocacy group. Even looking at that feminist’s social media, and a couple of other feminist “blame all men for the ills of society” social media pages there are mixed thoughts about the ban, albeit those opposed are more worried about setting a precedent that may see women banned from occupations vs being against discrimination against men.

Are you comfortable with male educators taking care of your children?
I am, I also dont like the call by rape survivors to ban men from working in childcare as i strongly believe its important for young children to have both male and females providing care for young children.

Even men choose primary school teaching over high school and that’s where the comments start……
I also detest any call to ban men from what is a female dominated job as it leads us as a society down a slippery slope.

There is a big push to increase female participation in various professions. “Breaking down barriers”, “destroying stereotypes”, “increasing diversity”, a voice at the table” etc.

Now some (not all) of those feminists saying those things are the exact same ones saying “all men need to be banned from childcare (and some saying primary school teaching as well) as they are potential pedophiles”.

It may be the most hypocritical thing ever.

In practice, I recognise that would likely result in men struggling to find employment in childcare centers. While unfortunate, the safety of young children takes precedence over men being offended.

“Won’t someone PLEASE think of the children” has literally been the slogan of every prejudicial call to discriminate against a group of people. Different races, LGBT, now men.

Could call for any profession based on strength to now be banned for women. Want a weak female firefighter pulling your kids out of a burning house, or a weak female lifeguard pulling your kids out of a pool? Or other professions where males have been proven to be more competent than women?

Of course not, the same standard should apply across all professions. If you are competent and capable in the job you get it. If someone wanting to be a firefighter passes the fitness test they gain entrance to the job, male or female. Same with childcare, if a man or woman passes stringent safety checks they get the job, not a blanket ban.

Plus:

After a bit of bush lawyering I’m pretty sure a blanket ban on men would fall foul of the Sex Discrimination Act. The AHRC, which can grant an exemption to the Act, has previously knocked back several applications for an exemption to the Act to discriminate in hiring of women only at day care centres.

So there’s a legal precedent against this extreme feminist’s opinion.

I personally think she’s just jumping on the bandwagon for her 15 minutes of fame because of the media attention the latest scandal has gotten.

Firefighters and lifeguards are required to pass physical tests. A weak female firefighter won't pass those tests.

One study found that men made up 5% of childcare workers, yet accounted for 60% of all child sex abuse cases in childcare. That means male childcare staff were almost 30x more likely to offend against young children.

This isn't an isolated incident. Another prolific Australian male pedophile childcare worker was able to abuse 91 children before being caught, showing that current measures of control are inadequate.

Without better measures of control, I think it's reasonable to limit duties of male childcare workers. Safety of the children, many of whom are preverbal, is too important. In this case, it's important enough to discriminate against men.

100% of Clerical Sex Offenders were Male Priests

Except in most jurisdictions they’ve lowered the test requirements over time to let more women pass. Equal but easier.

Also funny how you support testing only when it comes to firefighters but blanket sexist bans when it comes to childcare.

One study found that men made up 5% of childcare workers, yet accounted for 60% of all child sex abuse cases in childcare.

So a blanket ban on men is only going to stop just over half of cases, whereas almost 50% of potential offenders will escape with probably even less scrutiny?

Funny how when it comes to women breaking into male dominated industries all we hear is “breaking down barriers”, “don’t discriminate” “positive role models” but when men want to break into female dominated industries it’s “piss off as you’re all potential pedos!”

Luckily it’s only extreme feminists like yourself who want this.

Holy shit do you have any clue about the extent of the Catholic Abuse scandals? Look up the “Magdalene Laundries”, the slave labour torture prisons run by Catholic Nuns. What some of those sisters did to the victims of those torture prisons exceeds what Catholic priests did to kids in some respects.

The “Magdalene Laundries” is evidence enough that entrusting children to only be cared for by women is zero help in ensuring they won’t be abused.

That should be enough for most people you'd think.

No, because most people aren’t extreme reactionary feminists who immediately think of all men as pedos.

Like I said before I even check out the social media of this extreme feminist Louise Edmonds, the one person who got amplified by the media calling for this ban, and even on her post on her own social media a lot of her devoted followers were against it. On the social media of other feminists like Sherelle Moody, Clementine Ford, Mia Freedman etc they either haven’t called for it or the discussion about it is mixed.

No real child advocacy groups for called for a ban, and the AHRC has previous found discrimination against men in childcare is against the Sex Discrimination Act, regardless how many of these extreme feminists cry about “protecting children”.

This is a can of worms you don’t want opened. By all means call for a blanket ban discriminating against men working in childcare, but calls for discriminatory bans will follow against groups these radical feminists have sympathy towards. For instance get ready for a call for the forced removal of indigenous children from indigenous parents, like I said this is not a can of worms you want opened……

She has some valid points. From the article you linked:

“We actually have to look at the safety first and foremost of our most vulnerable citizens, which are our children, and a lot of them are voiceless,” she said.

“The sad reality is there’s so much lived experience and evidence and data around child sex offenders, and 97 per cent of them are male,” Ms Edmonds said.

While I don't agree males should be banned from working in childcare, I tentatively support the idea they should be banned from conducting nappy changes, helping in toilets, and being involved in any aspect of unclothing or clothing young (0-3yrs) children in childcare centers without consent from parents.

In practice, I recognise that would likely result in men struggling to find employment in childcare centers. While unfortunate, the safety of young children takes precedence over men being offended.
What about non-sexual abuse?

There was an extended interview about this on ABC News Radio last week, the vast majority of this sort of abuse is perpetrated by female childcare staff.

Should female staff be banned from feeding children in high chairs at childcare?

I don't regard myself as an "extreme reactionary feminist" I must say, opinions may vary i guess. And I must say my opinion on this matter won't be influenced by Clementine Ford, Mia Freedman or the other names you've mentioned.

And I reckon you might be overestimating the ramifications of this potential ban, I don't know what this might have to do with forced removal of indigenous children.

What about protection of children from other types of abuse in childcare, which is predominantly perpetrated by women?

Wouldn't it be wiser to implement measures that protect 100% of children who experience abuse in child care?

Ok that's bad and I'd like that to be stopped as well.
And this is predominantly perpetrated by female childcare staff. So based on this

That should be enough for most people you'd think.
That should be enough for women to also be banned.

This is where the entire "for the good of the children" argument falls flat.

Well if you banned females from working in child care you wouldn't have an industry, you would without blokes so there's that. All forms of abuse are bad but the type of a sexual nature should probably be focused on first.
