Blighty's view...

Easy to believe some of the Sydney players wouldn't be happy, going to be hard to keep a premiership team together when your paying the most to a guy who wasn't even in that team.

If they are willing to pay him those dollars, they must value him highly, and hopefully the trade reflects that. It's easy to be seen as "fair traiders" when they are bringing in unwanted players they see a need for but we were willing to keep Tippett as our highest player, so this is obviously a different situation. Just hope we can make the most of it.

With Sydney being our biggest competition next year I hate that we are strengthening their team. Hopefully a trade levels things up, of course we are much younger and are more likely to improve.

If I were David Noble, this is what I'd do.

Firstly yes, we will try and negotiate with Sydney to see what they can offer. We are an honourable club and will try get a deal done that will give us true compensation for Tippett. If we are talking players, make no mistake there is only 1 player I would take in a straight swap; Jetta.

Secondly, whilst we begin the conversation with Sydney, I would be saying to Gold Coast, that they are very much still in the game. If the Gold Coast can come up with a trade to send something our way that satisfies our compensation requirements for Tippett we immediately cut off conversation with Sydney and send him straight to the PSD.

Now, people will say that GWS has a pick before GC and that's a fair comment. But, if you were Tippett and faced with the reality of the PSD and a choice between GWS and GC, I would be doing what it takes to not agree to terms with GWS. GWS have also never stated an interest in Tippett.

What do people think?

Blighty on GCS payroll too - GCS out of the equation I would think

I went to school with Heath Grundy, I wasn't mates with him,l but me and his older sister were in same class for years. Hench I spoke to Heath about the Crows and how he should come back last year. His response was "Ive always hated the Crows, and I love it in Sydney" Maybe his tune has changed since the premiership, but doubt it.

I cant see how the Crows can lose from this to be honest. Youve got rid of near $1m in the salary cap for a player that doesnt deliver anywhere near as much as his pay packet would suggest, you've got ready made plug n play guys to take his spot in Jenkins, Johnston or Lynch, you'll get a very good young player for him in return and also have the chance to hit trade week running with a shitload of salary cap space.

I'd say this is a better outcome than him wanting to go to Qld and having the risk of being bent over or losing him in the PSD.

Why can't Adelaide deal with GWS...eg Giles and a player like Tyson(actually don't care who for this example) or another player as well to clear space for Tippetts demand.
Tell Tippett's manager and Sydney he can go in the preseason draft as GWS will have the room in their cap to take him unless a deal fair deal is made.

If Sydney don't play ball he goes into the preseason draft. Adelaide will deliver Tippett to the GWS by completing the trades required to free up his salary demands and we at least get a promising junior or two and Giles out of it.
Tippett gets his wish to play in Sydney ....Western Sydney and GWS gets a KKP centre half forward and cut down their player numbers which they need to do.

GWS can't just rely on Tippett coming to them for nothing in the PSD as they need to make player trades to free up salary cap adjustments so they can match Tippett's offer sheet. They can only do this by dealing with Adelaide as they are the only club that can let him pass through to the PSD.

If Sydney come to the table and deals fairly because of this threat then Adelaide owes GWS some sort of compensation for helping the bargaining process.
It may cost Adelaide something in compensation but it sends a message to other clubs that we are prepared to play hardball on occasions.
Of course GWS must want Tippett and be prepared to move players and those players want to come.
1.Could this strategy actually work?
2.Could just the threat of this scenario bring action.
3. If GWS matches Tippett's offer sheet does he have to go to them under the same deal he signed with Sydney.

This might be a ridiculous idea, I'm trying very hard to think outside the box at this moment in time.
I'm just putting it out there for discussion.

You are 100% correct.................. it is a ridiculous idea.

In the unlikely event Kurt was forced to walk to the PSD do you guys think any club other than Sydney is likely to match Kurt's salary/contract demands?

We cant trade Tippett for peanuts.

If theres no top deal on the table, we need to take a hard line approach. Not out of ego, out of strategy. We're in a close race for the premiership, we cant afford to weaken ourselves and empower a competitor.

Do we need another clearance winning player though? I would have thought a running Mid or KPD would be more in our sights..
If we could get the No1 clearance player in the leauge, then ****ing oath!

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that clubs are not in the habit of recruiting players that have clearly stated they want to go somewhere else. Especially a player that has clearly demonstrated questionable beliefs.
I am without doubt Tippet has left the Crows badly but the fact is they unfortunately will not get the great deal they deserve. I wish he picked another club.

Very, very poor form Tippett. If you wanted to go for money, or just go somewhere else and take the best offer available, have the guts to say so. Don't spend two years talking about wanting to return home, only to pull this bullshit. Unbelievably disrespectful.

However, I'm not sure why people are so upset about Sydney being the nominated club. Obviously the strongest position for us would be if he didn't nominate anyone, but given that he was going to nominate a club Sydney is a very good choice for us because there is no way they will get him if they don't give us something worthwhile. There are plenty of other clubs willing to pounce on him, and with Sydney finishing on top every other club in the league will have a run at him before they will. I also don't understand why people think Sydney don't have any players worth trading - they've got a tonne of good players. Parker, who has been ridden in this thread, would be a great get. And with the money they're spending on Tippett it wouldn't be too hard to imagine they have some very good players on relatively little money that we might be able to entice over.

If Sydney don't offer us anything worthwhile, I'd dearly love to see us pick him back up in the PSD for another season and then next year when he's looking to go again we can tell him to make sure he talks his preferred club into offering something worthwhile this time :D
