Surely if the Crows get painted into a corner by Sydney and he nominates for the PSD, the Crows would pick him before Sydney. He could perform, play for west, or sit out the game for 2 years. See what he is offered after that.

Not sure on the rules on if you have to pay them if they sit out.

As for the argument that you don't have room in the cap, I'm sure some adjustments to contracts would find room.

At least you make a stand.

Off topic, but i hate this stuff about "being the bigger man"

Everyone else can be a Prick and get what they want... Why cant I?

Go back 3 or 4 days, read some of this thoughts and say that again.

His ideal trade a few days ago was pick 22 for Tippett. Yep, he's awesome poster but only in compassion to the rest of his mates and their feeble efforts.

But Alex - it's an internet forum. He doesn't really have the ability to make any deals for Sydney, so it doesn't really matter if he's a muppet or not! It just makes for interesting (some time hilarious) debate.

Nah, you're just being overly sensitive, looking for trolls & muppets in every post. Nothing Membling has written has been the least bit offensive.

Agreed - I've been chatting with him on the Sydney Board - very decent poster.

Kurt and his inbred manager have burnt all the bridges with the AFC abd we should be in no frame of mind to do them any favours. W bent over backwards for this inconsiderate self centered knob and it still wasn't good enough. If we are smart about this I think we can be big winners in all this in the long run.

In a way I am glad that he din't choose GC because it eliminates the threat of PSD. While Sydney are unlikely to be able to do the deal directly with us, they are known as fair traders so I have no doubt that the deal eventually will get done. Hopefully we come off better than when we went into it. If you are offering a player $1 million perseason for 4 years, then you would be aware of what it would cost trade wise to get that player and be prepared to pay that otherwise you would not have gone that far down the track of making an offer.

The players we would want from Sydney are the ones that they would likely not trade to us (Jetta) so I see this as being a multi team trade. With shitloads of money to play with, we should do what Sydney did to us with Mattner and approach a contracted player from another club that would make us better. Offer them a long term deal on a higher rate than what they are currently on.

My #1 target as mentioned in this thread would be Jarryd Roughead. Apparently we came close a couple of years ago and I am sure we could offer him more money than he is on at Hawks. As much as I love Walker, I would be super keen to pair him with another gun forward so that they can take the pressure off each other and dominate. Roughead -Walker partnership would be excellent for us. Roughead is also a multi position player. He can play forward and kick you anywhere from 40-75 goals in a season. He can also go back and be a gun CHB if one of the other talls (Jenkins/McKernan/Johnstone) prove to be capable side kicks for Walker. On top of that he can play as a back up ruckman. If we could pull this off, we would actaully be better team than if we kept Tippett.

There are also some rumours that Clarkson and Roughead have a frosty relationship and its part of the reason why we nearly got him a couple of years ago.

Even of we paid Roughead $650K-$700K per season over the next 5 years, we would still have a fair bit of money left over to get another good player to the club.

If Sydney are prepared to pay $1 million per season for Kurt, they know they will have to part with just as good a player to get him. They are not stupid. The deal will be done and they will give up a fair bit to get him. i don't think its a direct deal though. This will be a multi team trade.

havent been told anything more.
Some talk of Reid to Collingwood, Rohan to Geelong, Adelaide get GHS and picks thrown around.
Too early.....
Whats GHS?

Then what? Sending a player to the PSD will require big balls.

sending Kurt to the PSD will take some nuggets

however with that said we can only negotiate to what the market is prepared to offer so the key will be presenting a credit threat (PSD) to either force Syd to produce a better deal or to force Kurt to consider Brisbane or the GC

the decision on whether we go down the PSD path will need to be assessed against the next best alternative, for example if Sydney offered pick 22 & Rohan, even though this may not be market value to the club the decision will need to be based on will pick 22 & Rohan improve our list even though its not what we would have wanted

personally I can see a situation where GWS can quickly structure accordingly to take Kurt in the PSD and why wouldnt they which could see Kurt accepting a trade to the Lions if the Swans dont come to the party

Not necessarily, could be unrelated to our plans for them. For instance there has been a lot of discussion about turning Jenkins into a defender (like we did with Rutten). In the preseason we played Johnston as a defender, we might want to persist with that.

Just because you trade in a B grader doesn't mean that they stay that way. Thompson certainly wasn't an A grader when we acquired him and neither was Jacobs. I would back our coaches to get the most out some of the prospects that have been mentioned (e.g. Gumby, Parker, GHS etc.).
Thompson was 100% known to become a gun. Melbourne tried their hardest to keep him and are still dirty to this day they lost him.
Why the hell are so many Crows supporters putting forward possible trades where we end up with players who are not good enough to get a game with our current list? Why would we trade 1 x high level player for 2 x depth players?????

Players who nominate for the PSD may nominate their pay requirements, and a club that selects them is then obliged to meet those requirements.

Presumably Tippett/Blucher would put in the amount they know Sydney is willing to pay (IF Sydney's players revolt hasn't killed the move to Sydney by then)

That trade I can live with, but if we are offered crap then **** them both off

if Tippett puts a price on his head, anyone can still select him and offer him what they like.
every side has the right to draft any player that has nbominated for the draft.

the key is, whether Kurt then decides to play for what he is offered by the club that selects him, or chooses to sit out the year.

it hasnt been tested yet, but i reckon theres a few teams with a pick before sydney in that draft that would be willing to go into 2013 with one less player on their list than see Kurt at Sydney.

i'd pick him to sit out the season if it meant we didnt have to find 1 or 2 tall defenders to play on him in a final.

Given that Kennedy has yet to sign - and he is a player of roughly equivalent value to Tippett - I'm thinking we're probably looking at a 3-way trade.
Kennedy -> Team X
Tippett -> Sydney
???? -> Adelaide

???? = Roughead and X = Hawthorn makes a lot of sense, but it's only one possibility.
I would rather get two early/mid teen picks that Roughead. With that we could get a Kennedy and a Giles to cover two areas of need, we can then get Lewis T to play CHF.

Correct and then Tippett cannot lower his price or he will be done for draft tampering.
