The whole Tom Hickey deal for DP13 still baffles me !
Are Gold Coast positioning themselves for a last ditch attempt to trade ? Or positioning themselves in the draft before Sydney ?
I think GC were just talking tough at the trade table about first round picks, then ran off with glee when gullible old St Kilda gave them a mid first rounder.

anyone else get the feeling this thread is not going to end anywhere nearly as well as the Dangerfield draft meltdown thread ?

Don't worry. We'll get a better offer, it's only a matter of time unless Sydney bail because:
  • Adelaide can't accept White + 23 because they will be the laughing stock of the AFL after the Wellingham, Hickey, Dawes trades.
  • I don't believe Sydney can afford Tippett while retaining White and Bolton.
  • Sydney won't ask a club legend to retire.
  • Sydney would have trouble convincing Coles to hire White.
My new prediction:
  • Just changed after reading the herald sun!!!!

ADELAIDE has confessed to the AFL that it forged a secret arrangement to send Kurt Tippett to the club of his choice when it last re-signed him, a deal that could amount to draft tampering and see the club face major sanctions.

It is to Adelaide's credit that it went to the AFL late last week with written confirmation that it had promised to get Tippett to where he wanted to go if it was unable to convince him to stay in Adelaide beyond 2012.

The Tippett camp has a copy of that note, too. While no club was stipulated, the Crows had believed that if the Queenslander went anywhere, he would go to one of his home clubs. He chose Sydney instead.

Sorry. I was supposed to post this in the main board thread. My bad. No point deleting though.

Tom Hickey's a good get.

Ben McEvoy No 1 in his prime with Hickey developing alongside... perfect mix.

Just on mediation .......my guess is mediation is sought when clubs cannot agree on trade pick value of player to be traded .......i.e is player A worth 1st or 2nd round pick

In Sydney's case they've offered the best pick available ....so mediation isn't useful as it can't specify a player has to be traded or value of player
We could demand their 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks - given their abject refusal to trade any player of value and the manifest inadequacy of pick #23 on its own. I can't see any AFL mediator refusing that.

This would force Sydney's entry to the draft all the way back to round 4, thus ensuring that Tippett is the only profit they make from the draft. We could on-trade the picks, hoping to land ourselves a pick in the 10-20 range, still manifestly inadequate, but better than #23.

A team in desperate need of a rebuild should not be giving away both of their first round picks for an unproven state league forward and unproven reserve ruckman. Hell, Gorringe is barely worth pick 13 and he's contracted. Perhaps they're trying to cut down on the time before they return to near the top of the league pecking order, but it just seems bizarre to continue down the recycled player path that saw them end up with a list of 28+ yo and no youngsters.

The Crows are understood to have gone to the AFL late last week with written documentation confirming that they had agreed to trade Tippett for a second-round choice, an ''understanding'' not disclosed in the contract he signed at the end of 2009. Under AFL rules, Tippett could potentially be banned from playing for being party to such an agreement, while clubs found guilty of draft tampering or salary cap breaches can face draft penalties for up to four years. The Crows are, at a minimum, facing heavy scrutiny for entering into an undisclosed agreement with their star forward.

If true, this is just utter stupidity from all involved. This may cost us big time.

Hahaha **** me, what an absolute cluster **** this is turning in to for the club. At this rate, we probably wont be able to use any draft picks we get, because they'll be taken away. Seriously, what an inept bunch of morons.

I don't see how that Emma Quayle article in the Age is even newsworthy. The trade hasn't even gone through yet, how is that draft tampering.

Comparing the Crows to Carlton's salary cap breaches is completely ludicrous.

So let's see if I can summarise here.....

We gave Kurt an "unofficial agreement" that we would try to get him to a club of his choice, and didn't include it on his contract.

It's illegal to enforce, and doing so would see us receive salary cap sanctions, and Kurt barred from playing. Meanwhile the AFL would face renewed scrutiny on it's laws regarding player movements.

Clearly no parties want this to occur. I suspect everyone will take a step backwards at this point and something might actually happen.

I really hope this doesn't end up biting us on the arse as hard as it may do.

I'd like to know just how unofficial this agreement was. Was it a "it's binding but we'll just whiteout that part on the contract" thing, or just a "hey, we pinky promise to get you home if you ask nicely" thing?

I agree with this, those comments by Quayle seem sensationalist. If anything, this scenario more closely resembles the Brett Chalmers episode all those years ago.
