As much as id like to see him gone, and for others to feel the shaft of the MRP as we have, I dont see this getting much.

He has the right to go for the ball and protect himself as he did. Putting the foot up is part of the game.

I dont see the grief.. maybe a fine at worst.

Go Catters

The only reason people think its an issue is because Luke Dalhaus is 1.78. If he extended that leg into a ruckman its perfectly legal(which it still is). It was just accidental contact that happens sometimes. Tom Hawkins is quite adept at this exact thing. If he happens to boot Caleb Davis in the face while legally protecting his space is that worthy of a suspension? Toby Greene has done some silly things but he is not in the wrong here. I still believe he will be suspended though.
Yep, know what you mean re Hawkins but can't recall him planting his boot in someone's face actually. Or anyone else doing so either. It's definitely an unusual incident.

Interesting reading the different viewpoints, much more support for Greene than I would have thought. Looked to me like the extension of the leg would get him in strife.
He's in my SuperCoach team so I wouldn't have any dramas with him getting off fwiw.

If it was a knee to Dahl's head then it's a different story and I wouldn't GAF about it as I'd view it as accidental. Knees are historically used to protect players in marking contests and ruck contests and also give leverage.

He received a handball though and there is no place in the game to kick out like that studs up. He knew contact from Dahl was coming and was reckless in doing so fending off like that. What happens if he collected Dahl an inch or two higher? Dahl could've been blind/had a severe eye injury.

No duty of care shown here imo and it has nothing to do with the bullshit tackle incidents that were outside of the tacklers control that saw them penalise based on causing injury. The high foot from Greene was a dangerous action to begin with.

I think he has more right to stick his leg out than in a marking contest.
In a marking contest he is protected by the rules, ie: late tackle = 50 metre penalty.
In this situation , he has no protection, he can expect to get poleaxed once he hits the ground.

Unfortunate incident for mine.

What makes it look bad is the final "push" when he straightens his leg. If his leg had of remained bent I don't think there'd be an issue, but with the last motion to straighten his leg and the way the MRP operates currently rightly or wrongly he'll get at least 2 weeks.

Exactly

Two motions = a kick

A knee he'd be ok with as we've all used knees historically in aerial contests (I was a ruckman/key forward when I played, used to protect myself with my knee in ruck contests/marking contests)

A studs up kicking motion is arguably 3 times more dangerous than a knee. The force generated from the multiple action kick is far greater than the one action knee, then you add on the unpredictability element of the studs coming from the kick and potentially that could do serious damage.

It was a reckless action and it wasn't a marking contest either where potentially more leeway could be given.

Will be interesting, we know the AFL obsess over outcomes and the "look" the incident has.

Given they now deem it intentional under any circumstance if you swing an arm (whether you intended to strike/hit them or not), I can see the AFL grading it as intentional.

Taking all that into account and given Greene's self inflicted reputation and poor record I wouldn't be surprised if he copped a few.

Nothing in it guys - just a flying kick studs up to the face of someone about to legally try tackle him.. I like how he pushed the leg further once he realised he made contact to the head.

Looks like definite follow through and extension once contact is made with the face , that might sink him with the MRP.

Any other player and this doesnt even get discussed. Its farked what the umpires have done to this kid.
No other player really does it, is the issue.

Probably 0 weeks for me, but I've little doubt he did it with intent.

Irrespective of whether this is a deliberate act/reportable offence etc, you have to admire Greene's athleticism. Takes the ball in the air, puts Dalhaus out of the contest with a perfectly placed foot, spins 180 degrees while in the air, before landing cat like on the ground and springing forward ready to deliver to a teammate. In a Greene vs Predator face off, I reckon humanity would be in good hands - this kid is a weapon!

This is the thing, he does that reguarly, jumps like this and takes off as soon as he hits the ground, only this time some goof decided to keep running towards him. If he gets rubbed out for this the club could make a video montage of all the similar occasions and ask why are they reporting him for it now?

Hodge had got very close to doing this many times whilst looking and apprared to have intent to injure players. Of course when it's Hodge nothing is even said of it.

What should Dahlhaus had done? Not try to apply a legal action and tackle him?

Been watching footy for nearly 50 years. As the game has changed i never thought i would see a player again who would be universally known as a dog.

Toby Greene is a dog and has been allowed to be a dog by GWS.

Who was universally known as a dog before him in your time?

Since when was it justifiable to drop kick someone in the face with studs up just because you are about to get tackled? This isn't the WWE or Karate Kid... It's ****ing AFL - if you don't want to get tackled then don't take possession or give a hospital hand pass to your teammate. I can imagine now if Mitch Duncan decided to flying head kick Mummy just because he was about to get tackled... Would look ****ing awesome but completely against the rules of the game.

If he goes Jamie Elliot Jeremy Howe Tom Hawkins and Tex Walker will never play 2 games in a row again.

Difference is they do it in marking contests. Not as a fend off from a legitimate tackle
