Parker from the swans did a similar thing to Birchall a few years back.Only got him in the chest.
Got nothing but a free kick against.

A swans player did it in the grand final to JJ and got a free kick for it.

But it's a bit different when it is to the face and the player clearly uses it to push off

Yet its the same rule with bumping etc .

If you choose to use whatever means to protect your space and you then hit the opposition in the head, you must accept the consequences.

Would you say the same if he held a clenched fist out at a player running towards him? A studded boot if anything is worse.
He jumps that way. Its how he balances himself. Allot of players do.
If he was standing on the ground and put his leg out like that i would say ban him.

He is jumping straight up eyes on the ball going for a contested possession.

Then he needs to change the way he jumps....

Eyes are irrelevant for careless act to the head. If an elbow is careless, studs up and high can't be less so.

If you are going to fend off and protect space by raising an arm, elbow, knee or boot and cause injury to a players head it has to be treated similarly, (and Studs up high is more dangerous than an arm or elbow) so if it is careless and high, all that is then left to consider is the force of impact? If it's medium he is looking at 2 weeks.

Not sure if you've ever jumped "straight up" before, but it's usually easier to keep your balance if both legs are under your body, rather than having one leg horizontal.

Most sensible post here.

I'd be interested to see some biomechanics showing that a leg in the position would stabilise a vertical leap, a shift like that is more likely to take away height and leave you unstable.

So was he protecting himself? Or was it just his natural vertical leap?

Obviously Toby's centre of gravity is a metre beside the rest of his body, unlike the majority of the population. He must be so unlucky that the direction his leg naturally goes when he jumps just happened to line up with the only opponent within kicking distance. Funnily, I've seen him jump straight up at other times with both legs beneath himself when there were no opponents around. Not sure what to make of that.

fwiw around 2:00 you can see him do a similar motion with his leg taking a mark

Still see this being decided on whether or not MRP/tribunal deem his leg positioning 'reasonable' under the circumstances of competing for a ball above his head.

yep and both marks.
Ok new rule, if you're relying on and incident as precedent in the AFL, where interpretations change weekly, the said incident must have occurred within 10 years of your club being in existence.

**** if you're relying on that, I hope you're not in any way representing Toby otherwise he's in mighty trouble.

2 weeks. As we saw with Grundy you have a duty of care. Possibly 3 with his record.
The only options in the entire realm of possibility given we can all agree it's high contact are:

Base:
Not classifiable/reportable - 0

Intentional, High impact - straight to tribunal
Intentional, Medium impact - 3 down to 2 with guilty plea
Intentional, Low impact - 2 down to 1 with guilty plea

Careless, High impact -3 down to 2 with guilty plea
Careless, Medium impact - 2 down to 1 with guilty plea
Careless, Low impact - $1,500 down to $1,000 with guilty plea

Poor record will (as far as I understand it) add +1 to any of the above (not including the Careless, Low impact) regardless of plea
---------------
So unless it's not reportable or it's not Careless, Low impact; he's gone until their first final. Personally any suggestion it's high impact is nonsense, not sure anyone is seriously arguing for it to be, so I'd chuck those out. I also reckon that, if anything, it'll be Careless.

My money is on:

Careless, Medium impact = $2.40
Not Classifiable = $2.80
Careless, Low impact = $4
Intentional, Medium impact = $10
Intentional, Low impact = $12
Any high impact = $51

Why he brings his foot up so high, I don't know. It clearly wasn't part of the catching motion. Just WTF is he doing with his leg like that? It's quite reckless, there's no way that Dalhaus can protect himself in that situation. Greene probably needs a few weeks.

There's no way he doesn't know what he's doing lifting his leg and foot up that high. It reminds me of Draymond Green's (similar surname, what is it with these guys?) propensity to kicking players in their nether regions or close to the head and defending himself by claiming it was accidental because he has no control of his body's movement in some basketball plays.

I call BS on that. Toby and Draymond know exactly what they're doing. It's blatantly obvious they're trying to camouflage a deliberate dog act and there's no doubt in my mind it's fully intentional. I can't think of a good reason why anyone should be lifting their feet up that high anyway in either basketball or footy. In all the examples I've seen of this it's been a totally unnecessary unjustified body movement in the context of the play.

this is hands down the most idiotic thread i've read on BF.

there is no such thing as protecting "your space" with your leg in the air in a kicking type motion.

why? because you have the potential to kick someone in the head you moron.

don't get me wrong, this wasn't overly vicious by any means but the head is sacrosant and he essentially kicked a player in the head in a ridiculosusly stupid and wreckless way.

3 weeks

This. There is nothing in the rules that allows a player to 'protect his space' or defend himself, or however you want to describe it.

A player with the ball that wants to stop a tackler physically has only one legal option - fend off with an open hand. You can't stop a tackler with a clenched fist or a raised elbow. You can't raise a knee outside of ruck contests and marking attempts. And you can't raise a foot. That's kicking - historically, a serious offence. In this case, Greene clearly raised a foot to stop the tackle, so the incident is definitely reportable.

Still see this being decided on whether or not MRP/tribunal deem his leg positioning 'reasonable' under the circumstances of competing for a ball above his head.

Thought I'd give this a look. He clearly takes the mark first then swings his leg out at an approaching player. But again, that was taking a mark with arms stretched above his head. Not taking a hand pass and kicking

I see you still haven't read the rules I told you to since you are still posting examples of marking contests.

I know being a gws supporter makes you either a turncoat or new to the game, so you are obsiously the latter. You should educate yourself about what kind of contact is allowed and what is prohibited.

Not a single example of this incident happening before has been posted in this thread.

He's not competing for a ball above his head, he jumped when there was no need, to take a ball out in front of his chest.

Apparently there's second footage going around that shows he looked directly at Dahl too. The little campaigner knew exactly what he was doing! Throw the book at him.
