how has his pre season come along?

anyone have pictures??

im hoping his pre season is huge, because it doesnt take a genius to figure out how important his development this season is for our hopes at our third premiership.

If we get Tom Hawkins to his best, then it will start too be like Carlton's old foward line.

One big structure in Hawkins, then support roles (like Cam Mooney) and pockets who pick up the crumbs (like Matty Stokes, Travis Varcoe, and Shannon Byrnes).

If Bomber Thompson works him this pre-season, he WILL be the next big thing.:footy:

I just hope he continues to improve like the second half of last year.
If we can get a 10-15% improvement (which is huge but not unrealistic given his age), I would be very happy.

I think the best thing Thompson did in terms of Hawkins was throwing him into the ruck for a few games mid-season. Since then, he's looked like an entirely different player. If you watch the NAB Cup final and the Preliminary Final back to back, it's like watching two entirely different players wearing the same guernsey.

If we get to see 22 games from Hawkins this year that mirror his efforts in the last two finals, I'll be a happy man.

25 games, 50 goals (play him deep, mooney leading up the ground), plenty of defensive pressure and busting them packs wide open for the little guys.

Hawkins won't just play deep; Mooney and he will switch it around. They've been doing that ever since Nathan Ablett was the second tall forward in 2007.

If anything, as he gets older, it could be Mooney who stays closer to home. As Hawkins gets more and more stamina we could see him cover a lot more ground than he has.

I can't believe how much stick the bloke gets. I hope Tommy gives em all a nice big 5hitburger to eat.

regards,

REB

he's looking great and seems to be much fitter. he should be able to get to more contests which is the main thing i think he's been lacking

i've stopped expecting him to be the next big thing, but hope that by the middle of the year he can take over from mooney as the main forward target

pinion he will be the next big thing, if its one thing us geelong supporters should have learnt by now, that down at geelong, good things take time to come, but when they do come, they are more sweeter tasting than ever!

crazy are you linga under cover

no, i am just very confident in our club to produce success in the end with whatever project it may be, being a promising young player, the team growing from A to B into a senior side, i believe we have the best of the best doing coaching and business down at the cattery, no one should loose faith in us at all or not be positive with the minds and culture we have going on.

So I shouldn't have put $500 on a Hawkins Coleman/Brownlow/Norm Smith trifecta? Damn.

if so happens, your buying everyone on the geelong board a upperclass bottle of champaigne, flying them out to france for a week partying in a villa to celebrate it, and then you can buy a place in toorak with whats left.

I like the sound of that!!:)

Good to hear!! Looking forward to seeing the big Tommahawk in action again this year. Does anyone know if he is playing in the NAB cup opener?

you'd think he'd be a player who would play if fit. given mooney's late start to pre-season he's almost certain to miss and i can't imagine why we'd play without both key forwards if we didn't have to.

Dont think they have picked the team yet

I reckon he'll really come along this year. I think you could see the improvement from the first half of last year to the second half. Not only was his kicking much improved, but he had more of a presence, and he was creating - just look at the PF for confirmation of that. A full pre-season is just the tonic for him to really start to put his mark on the team. I don't expect an avalanche of goals - but I think 50 plus is not out of the question, and maybe more if his improvement continues.
