I think he has really improved and was great on Friday night.
I just question does he fit into our backline next year when a fully fit Gilham and stratton are back...

Going to be a tough gig...

You'd say...

Guerra - Gibson - ?
Birchall - Stratton - ?

...are the certainties, which leaves Murphy, Gilham, Schoenmakers, Lisle, Puopolo and Suckling fighting for the last two spots.

At least there will be competition for spots in the Hawks team.
I hope this causes the players to really work hard over the pre-season and improve

This backlash against murphy bashing is getting ridiculous. Now whenever murphy plays a game that isnt a shocker he's lauded as having a great game. He's like the new sacred cow - no ones allowed to say a bad word about him.

I agree with the above poster who questions on what basis did have even close to an exceptional game?

Looking at our back 6 did he have a clearly better game than all of gibson, stratts, birchall, guerra and shoey?

Let alone looking at our midfielders or forwards. He'd struggle to be in the top 10 players for the hawks for that game, let alone on the ground.

Come on people let's not get oversensitive.

Lets not forget he's got probably the easiest role in our back 6. Lock down on a small/med forward, no rebound required or helping out other defenders. The opposition would spend no time at all worrying about murphy pre-game - unlike gibson, birchall etc.

Perhaps some posters simply think it is restoring a more realistic balance especially considering the extent he has been what some consider to be unfairly treated on the forum.

And that said I had him (as did many others) in my top 5 last week.

Was good but not a superstar effort. Does his role and what is asked of him. Lets not turn his mutton into lamb.

He is not a starring type of player so lets not make him out to be. When he defeats his opponent, applaud his game, but lets not go over the top and make him out to be a superstar purely to spite the so called 'Murphy bashers'.

He'll be in the best 22 next year as he's out best small/medium forward defender atm.
