This is the last uncompromised Draft for the next (possible) 6 years.
With the way the team is now would we benifit from trading certain Marque Players to build for the dry spell over this period.

I believe that Players Like Kerr, Cox, Glass and Embley probably wont be in the side when we win our next premiership or contest it, So would it be worth while Trading 1 or 2 of these players to further help our Cause in the future.
Our Team in 4 years as I see it.

FB: Waters, MacKenzie, J.Jones
HB: A.Smith, M.Brown, Schofield
C: A.Cockie, L.Shuey, T.Houlihan
HF: T.Swift, Kennedy, B.Ebert(vc)
FF: M.LeCras, T.Notte, B.Matera
RR: Naitanui, Masten, P.McGinnity
Int: A.Selwood(c), S.Selwood, R.Davis, J.McNamara

No Kerr (30), No Cox (32), No Glass(32), No Embley(32)
Also No Lucas, Scully or Jetta, I did however add Brandon Matera as I think we should draft him (soley because he's a Matera :D).

I've No Doubt that Cox, Embley and Glass will pass on their Knowledge to the younger players but I dont see the same thing with Kerr Plus Embley has none to little trade Value So Daniel would be the obvious Choice. We have ATM Scotty Burns as a Midfield Coach and he can teach them everything they need to know in practice and Adam (Selwood) and Andy (Embley) that can direct them on the field. So I believe Kerr would serve us more by being Traded as good as a player his is 1 player doesn't win a premiership (Just ask Judd :p) and we could get 2 or 3 Quality players in the last Draft.
Food For thought.

Never thought I'd say this but I agree with the trade Kerr idea.

Part of it was listening to Trevor Nisbett's interview on Friday night when he was talking about Cousins. He was saying that it was strong leadership within the team that went astray and I can't help but think that part of the way forward is to clear out the last of that culture.

Kerr is a great player but I'm not sure he's a great teacher, especially if he realises that he is unlikely to be a premiership player again.

This is all pretty much irrelevant, as I have it on good authority that a much older Ben Cousins from 2015, recently retired and the AFL's designated football ambassador, will be sucked back through time to 2002.

Ambassador Cousins' interaction with the old timeline creates an alternate reality when he materialises in a northbridge nightclub on mad monday in September 2002. His intervention in the brawl between younger cousins and kerr leads to a fire starting which burns down the brass monkey and half of james st, resulting in the death of a number of well known Northbridge identities.

The resulting bad press leads to the eagles losing their hungry jacks sponsorship. Stunned into action, the administration cracks down hard on player behaviour, and manage to obtain a new sponsorship from Jenny Craig.
Things transpire relatively similarly on field up until grand final 2005, where a slimmer, fitter Ashley Sampi leaps clean over the pack and takes a monster mark to goal after the siren.

Younger Ben Cousins celebrates the Eagles first flag with a mug of cocoa and a quiet night in.

After following it up with another flag the following year, we elect to trade Chris Judd, citing future treachery- we get picks 1 and 5 for him, and select Joel Selwood and Bryce Gibbs. Judd breaks down with a groin the following week.

Anyone interested in the movie rights?

matera isnt available in this draft, but the gold coast can take him.

get jetta this year and im happy, he is just what we need.

disagree with trading all those guys and we all know it wont happen anyway.

Sure i would take Matera if available.

In no particular order players I want for next year.

Are

Butcher/Scully with first pick

If we get a second p/p Lucas

Lewis Jetta
Travis Colyer
Jack Trengove
Nicholas Winmar
Clint Garlett
Alex Carey (on talent alone though would need to increase his workrate)
Chris Luff

Rookie's
Cameron Kickett

This will change later on the year but all these would be good for the club.

Let me get this right...So if we win less than 4 1/2 games this year, we will get something like pick 2 and 4 in the draft?

Secondly, we can't take Brandon Matera under the father-son rule can we?! :(

A very good observation about Kerr. I siuspect Cox is in the same boat.

A lack of leadership is killing us. Our next leaders are all U20, but al least we have them.

The most accurate prediction in this thread.

Will Keanu Reaves play the part of Ben?

One tiny problem, the brawl was in Claremont, not Northbrdge :p

Peter definitely does, he's about 12-13 from memory, not sure about Phil

Wally only played 24 games for us, 76 short of father son. He also played something like 146 games for South Freo, so 4 short of Freo getting him under father-son also thankfully. A Matera playing for the Dockers? I Feel so dirty even thinking about it

Someone on this board said that GC offered Brandon Matera a scholorship but he turned it down for a chance to play for us.

Not sure if it's true, but how exciting if it is!

Seems unlikely. How many kids would turn down a certain AFL future on the hope he gets picked by 1 of the 16 clubs?

Dayne Beams did.

EDIT: Misunderstood the 1 of 16 remark. I agree. I think he just wants to keep his options open.

One who knows he's good enough to at least get drafted? You get the feeling more then just Gold Coast has been speaking to him already

He has the confidence to knock back an offer from the GC, because he's got the talent to assure himself that he's going to get drafted.

That's why he knocked back the offer.

That and he wants to stay in WA and get picked up by the Eagles.

Apparantley.

Just if you guys want to know, Brandon has a 13 year old brother called Bailey (well I assume they're brothers as they both play(ed) for Bull Creek-Leeming and their surnames are Matera. From what I've seen of Bailey, he's a tallish mid who's pretty quick. However, he's not that good and there are many players on his team who are better than him. Probably won't play AFL.

I do realise that Brandon isn't available for selection this year But going on current perfomances and the Fact that th OP was about trading some Marque players I pretty much figured we would be in line for a early Draft pick next year as well.
