Toovey or Macaffer

I'm going to play devils advocate a little bit here, as it seems everyone is on Caff's side, and not Tooveys.

Toovey is the better player, I'm sorry, he is, he has been more consistent over a longer period of time, while MaCaffer really only had the one good period towards the end of 2010, and that's about it for consistency at AFL level.

Toovey is also more durable, and I believe when it comes to versatility, there isn't much between them either.

Both are tough, hard, contested footballers, who have a very good defensive side to their game, probably at the cost of great offensive or "football skills".

In the end, Toovey is the better player IMO, and most are basing their decision off emotion, rather then this.
 
Toovey.
We have Buckley, Young and Clarke that could potentially replace him. McCaffer is such a big lad, and he still hasn't yet reached his potential as a marking/defensive forward.
And also, McCaffer's manager hasn't made a complete ass of him in the press this week...

Blair? Wood? McCarthy? Buckley? Would move all the above before this pair.

Macaffer can break back into the best 22 and there really aren't that many like replacements - only one we have really is Daniel Farmer who can play a similar role. Then Harry O in theory could move forward and do similar, but he is fairly settled down back and likely will be persisted with down back.

But Toovey since he was a top 10 player this year you just have to retain. He is probably more replaceable because Tarrant could replace him since he can take those difference sizes and N.Brown is a natural fit slotting into full back.
Or if N.Brown isn't ok for r1 then Goldsack comes in for Toovey.
Toovey may be a role player and slightly limited, but in terms of what he does there is no better in the business, and he has done incredibly well to eliminate his weaknesses and make his strengths even greater.


Neither are ideal. Better is trading Blair now that he has value (Which Toovey doesn't have because of role and Macaffer doesn't have due to average season due to injury) - since he has been best 22 all this time, played all grand finals and really is that established player.

Blair is even more replaceable because we have Fasolo coming through as a natural replacement who in all likelihood replaces him next season anyway. Then Ugle and Elliot will both be pushing for that forward role also and both are good enough to play now anyway if required.
 
Toovey is more replaceable, and I think Caff has the potential to be a better player then Toovey anyway.

As good as Toovey is defensively, and as much as I love him, his foot skills will always let him down

Badly worded poll. I voted macaffer thinking I was choosing him to stay... Until I read the first post :/
 
Before this week, I would have said Macaffer just. Now I would say Macaffer comfortably. Nothing against Toovey, but Macaffer seems like a good third tall answer in the forward line, and isn't as concerned about money with a shit manager.
 
I would in all honesty prefer Toovey to stay, if you asked me say a month ago. Right now, though I feel as if Macaffer should stay.

I'm sure the club are getting sick of all the games with Toovey - non accredited manager, demanding more than what he's being offered. He should just take what he's being offered because his other teammates have, they've taken a sacrifice so that the majority of the team can be retained, yet Toovey is just being selfish now.

Maybe it would be a good thing to have him go, if he doesn't want to be part of the team, that's good for him. He can go fail somewhere like Port.

If the Caff will sign for the amount being offered - which no doubt he would, he seems to want to stay, I think he will be ahead of Tooves. He also has a manager, so that would be in his advantage.

I feel sorry for Caff, the poor guy is just getting caught up in Toovey's mess.

Caff is a much better player. He is a better kick and he is much more important to the team than Toovey.

At first I was writing a post on how I agree with this, but this got me thinking that I would prefer Macaffer over Toovey.

I think Toovey offers more than Macaffer, but choosing Toovey over Macaffer is too much of a risk from what we've seen. And it helps that at least we have somewhat decent cover for Toovey, although not exactly the perfect cover for Toovey's departure.
 
Tough one. Toovey is more important to the side currently, but I think Macaffer has more upside and the potential to become a much better player. Losing either one will be a blow, but if I had to choose I think I'd keep Macaffer.
 
I would prefer Macaffer to stay.

a) Better in every area of the game apart from the ability to completely blanket a small forward.
b) We would most likley get more from Toovey in a trade than Caff.
c) Will most likely cost less (salary cap-wise) to keep him.

I can't turn blind eyes to turn-overs and terrible disposal anymore. Ben Johnson is also on last legs due to this fact.

Well..it has been pointed out ages ago the poll was confusing but nothing has been done about it....

I voted Tooooves as I prefer Caff to stay but we do need a new poll as Caff has been stiffed about 4 votes by the sounds.

Caff has the potential to improve plenty as a player, we have many HBFs and Tooooves, IMO, has just about hit his limit.

I still keep thinking about the other 2 of the best 3 teams. Hawthorn & Geelong. Neither have a pure lock down player with poor skills. We have a better defensive player but poorer offensive player.

It's held them in OK stead.

Nothing veiled about my post. It was clear right from the start this was gonna be a disaster.

And I'll start a poll whenever I feel like, not when you tell me to, thanks.
