With Watts struggling as the number 1 pick in the 08 draft, people say that key forwards need more time than others. But With Naitanui starting to find his feet, Vickory showing some glimpses and Hurley seems to be the number 1 forward at the Dons now. If i were a Dees supporter, i would be a bit worried as players in "Big man's" roles seem to be fitting well into their teams where Watts still looks like a boy in a mans world.

Who do people think was the best pick up in the 08 draft at this point?

as polls can only be 20 selections, notable exclusions : L.Shiels (HAW) at pick 34 R.Sloan (ADE) pick 44, R.Stanley (STK) pick 47.
A.Cordy (WBD) pick 14 and L.Johnston (SYD) pick 13 who havent played a game.

My Essendon bias says Hurley but looking through the draft, there is some pretty strong talent.

1) Naitanui
2) Hill
3) Hurley
4) Shuey
5) Sidebottom
6) Rich
7) Watts
8) Hannebury (sp?)
9) Ziebell
10) Hartlett

^ By the end of their careers, not right now

Beams not a notable exclusion? lol

Yeah bit of an oversight there, Beams is a hell of a young player (actually scratch that, he's a hell of a player).

TBH I think there are two reasonable choices at this point in time - Hurley and Hill.

Possibly Natanui down the track.

Very happy with Hurley at the Bombers, as I'm sure Freo are happy with Hill.

Watts, massive mistake though.

Very very strong draft when you look at it. Happy with how Vickery is progressing...he has shown alot so far this year for a 19/20 yr old undersized ruck/forward. Think he will be a player, but needs another few years.

Sidebottom for me...

In general, I think people underestimate just how good Beams has been for us. His finals series last year was average though and I'm in no way suggesting he's the best of this draft.

At the moment, I'm going to go with:

Hill
Hurley
Hannerbery
Sidebottom
Rich

At the end of their careers I think the top 10 will look like this:
1. Stephen Hill
2. Jack Watts
3. Chris Yarran
4. Michael Hurley
5. Nick Naitanui
6. Hamish Hartlett
7. Phil Davis
8. Daniel Rich
9. Shaun McKernan
10. Daniel Hannebury

Whilst he's definitely in the top performers of this draft and ahead of many people on the above list I don't think anyone can realistically consider voting for him.

Top 5 to date:

Hill
Rich
Beams
Sidebottom
Hannerbury

My Career predictions:

Hill
Sidebottom
Nic Nat
Hurley
Rich

A bumper draft really.

All those clubs to this point in time will be happy with their selections give or take a couple.

At Collingwood, we are rapt to have netted Sidebottom @ 11 and then his partner in crime Beams @ 29 who somehow got overlooked for the poll.

If I had first pick in that draft, I'd take either Hill or Hurley. Hard to split 'em. Who you'd take would probably come down to the composition of your list. All things being equal, I'd probably go Hurley simply cos he's the KPP.

We've done this enough times already, and also with the same short sightedness to suggest a KPP who was still 19yrs old 3 weeks ago, should be dominating, all because he was Pick 1.

In short, we're done here before this completely turns into a Jack Watts kicking comp.
