Even with another 20 games this season, we will still have too many that we are pinning our hopes on, that have played less than 50 games.

Yep definitely.

We have so much high quality cattle. Looking at the Draft Positions only we have so many players picked inside the top 25 in our youth. But we need more games into them.

I'd suggest. Docherty, Cripps, Plowman, Buckley, Sumner and Kerridge will break (or have broken) 50 games by the end of the season. That is a very small number.

However large seasons from Weitering, Curnow, Petrevski-Seton, Marchbank, Silvagni, Cuningham, McKay, Fisher and others should push to be at the 15-40 game mark by the end of the season.

That sets them up to be 30-50 game players by the end of the 2018 season which is I think where we want them to be.

I've previously suggested the 3rd Year breakout season effect comes when players reach roughly 25-40 games. Due to a normal progression of rookie games per year, you'd expect a quality kid to play 10-15 games season one and 15-20 season two. Which means going into season 3, when they break out to be a fully fledged AFL player they are around 25-40 games.

This suggests maybe 50 is an arbitrary number. And we may be able to get away with relying on players from the 25-40 range.

Which by the start of the 2018 season I'd expect to include:

Docherty, Cripps, Plowman, Buckley, Kerridge, Sumner, Weiteirng, Marchbank, Curnow, Boekhurst, Cuningham, Byrne, Smedts.

Which is a quality set. With Fisher, Petrevski-Seton, McKay and others pushing in.

Glad you included Buckley who many are under rating !!

Reckon this will be a fun thread to follow in 2017 with this year shaping as one of significant development.

Didn't get the win on Thursday night but there was plenty to like about the performances of our younger players.
Update will be up tonight when I get home from work everyone.

I was excited by the number of kids we played. And some of their performances were top notch

GAMES 23-34 WRITE-UPS 2017

GAME 23 Rnd 1 - LOSS vs Richmond (89-132)

11 Youth Players
Coaches Votes: nil
Player Ratings Points (AFL,SEN):
Patrick Cripps - 441.9, 5
Sam Docherty - 391.5, 6
Jacob Weitering - 190.5, 6
Lachlan Plowman - 175.2, 6
Jack Silvagni - 54.3, 4
Charlie Curnow - 45.6, 2
Caleb Marchbank - 45.5, 7
Billie Smedts - 19.5, 4
Sam Petrevski-Seton - 7.4, 4
Jarrod Pickett - 6.9, 3
Harrison Macreadie - 4.9, 2

Average: 125.7, 4.45

Lachlan Plowman was a standout, he had 20 disposals from half back at 95% DE and took 10 marks as a back half general. Caleb Marchbank was equally impressive, he made a few key errors by foot but was courageous in defence taking a game high five intercept marks. Sam Docherty has had a rusty start to the season but still managed 24 disposals at 79% efficiency and 6 Rebound 50's. Patrick Cripps looked laboured after a limited pre season, he had 19 disposals and kicked more than he hand-balled for the first time ever? showing a clear intention to take th egame on more and expand his skillset in my opinion. Jacob Weitering went forward with success kicking three goals and taking seven marks. Sam Petrevski-Seton had a solid debut game with a team high 20+ pressure acts, seven tackles and 11 disposals. Jack Silvagni continues to show that he just knows how to play with 5 marks, 2 goals and 3 inside 50's. Billie Smedts had limited impact but found 17 possessions at 88%. Charlie Curnow could have impacted the game more, taking 4 marks in his 8 possessions, but was impressive with five tackles. Harrison Macreadie looked comfortable at times but faded in and out, finishing with seven disposals one mark and four tackles. Jarrod Pickett was disappointing, he managed to carry the ball well a couple of times but only had five possessions.

GAME 24 Rnd 2 - LOSS vs Melbourne (64-86)

11 Youth Players
Coaches Votes: Patrick Cripps (3)
Player Ratings Points (AFL,SEN):
Patrick Cripps - 452.7, 8
Sam Docherty - 394.3, 7
Jacob Weitering - 194.7, 5
Lachlan Plowman - 189.3, 7
Jack Silvagni - 54.6, 3
Charlie Curnow - 48.1, 3
Caleb Marchbank - 55.2, 6
Billie Smedts - 16.5, 5
Sam Petrevski-Seton - 13.2, 5
Jarrod Pickett - 13.2, 4
Harrison Macreadie - 6.4, 6

Average: 130.75, 5.36

Patrick Cripps was close to best on ground for the blues but copped a broken jaw from a thuggish shot from Jordan Lew You have to marvel at the man who managed to pick up 10 clearances, 29 possessions 17 of which were contested. Cripps has also shown a greater interest in kicking the ball kicking more than handballing again this week and showing off his skills, including a dart to set up Sam Petrevski-Seton's first goal. Sam Docherty made a couple of crucial errors but tried hard all day. Doch needs to work on one-on-one defence and laying tackles but his tenacity was there to see including a goal saving smother on Jesse Hogan. Docherty finished the game with 29 disposals at 82% efficiency, 10 marks across half back and 6 rebound 50's. Lachie Plowman is quickly becoming our best defender, he has 18 disposals at an astounding 94.4% efficiency took 5 marks, had a clearance to go along with three rebound 50's and two 1%ers. Caleb Marchbank formed an integral part to our three key defence youth pillars with 16 disposals 6 marks, including one contested four tackles and four 1%ers. Jack Silvagni copped a knock and played sore only managing 13 disposals, six marks and two inside 50's. Billie Smedts had a quieter day than last week but showed he can make things happen with his run and carry, he had 16 disposals 1 mark, 1 clearance and 3 tackles. Jacob Weitering couldn't find much space up forward only managing 14 touches, 6 marks, 3 1%ers and an inside 50. Sam Petrevski-Seton kiced his first goal and made some critical plays, he had 13 disposals four marks, two rebound 50's and two inside 50's to go along with his goal. Jarrod Pickett worked into the game more than last week but still only managed 9 touches, and four tackles. His 5 clangers weren't the best look for the team. Charlie Curnow was quiet up forward and looked lost at times but then showed a few glimpses of brilliance including a centre clearance in his 7 touches. He did go at 85% efficiency which is good, at least he didn't make errors when he had the pill. Harrison Macreadie rounded off the kids with another positive game. He didn't break any records but a one clanger game in ten possessions four marks and some key defensive acts will leave anyone happy with the effort of the second gamer.

GAME 25 Rnd 3 - WIN vs Essendon (57-42)
11 Youth Players
Coaches Votes: Lachie Plowman (2) Sam Docherty (2)
Player Ratings Points (AFL,SEN):
Patrick Cripps - 455.7, 7
Sam Docherty - 402.4, 7
Lachlan Plowman - 205, 8
Jacob Weitering - 201.9, 2
Sam Kerridge - 143.6, 3
Jack Silvagni - 58.5, 4
Caleb Marchbank - 54.2, 5

Sam Petrevski-Seton - 31.4, 6
Harrison Macreadie - 14.5, 1
Tom Williamson - 8.3, 5

Jarrod Pickett - 8, 4

Average: 143.94, 4.73

Sam Docherty was immense in the rain yesterday, 20 Disposals (no handballs) at 75% efficiency in awful conditions. The elite half back took 9 marks, had 4 rebound 50's and had an immense 6 1%ers in the win. Patrick Cripps went about his business and had some amazing moments. His goal in the first to get us under way and the chase down tackle of Dyson Heppell were wonderful to watch. He even had the audacity to do a look away handpass off of back 50 in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. It was one of his 24 possessions (12 contested) in a match that includes 5 marks, 4 clearances, 4 tackles and 3 i50's. Lachie Plowman is one of the best defenders in the AFL right now - period. He had 18 disposals at 94.4% efficiency he looked a class above off of half back. He had 6 marks, two contested marks, 3 rebound 50's and 6 1%ers. Sam Petrevski-Seton had sublime tocuh on the night finding grip where there shouldn't have been and space where there was none. He had 17 disposals, 8 tackles and a goal in a game where he was unlucky to avoid the rising star nom. The image of Jack Silvagni with hands up in celebraiton as the rain pours down is truly magnificent. The soul of Carlton's youth had 11 touches, 4 marks, 8 tackles and 4 1%ers on a day where players stood up and were counted. Tom Williamson didn't miss a beat on debut, the lucky charm had 15 touches, 2 rebound 50's a clearance and 5 tackles in a very very good debut. Caleb Marchbank had some great moments but didn't dominate the defensive 50 like he has the last few weeks. He had 10 touches at 80% efficiency, 5 marks and impressively 7 tackles. Jacob Weitering got knocked unconscious but came back to show his class in the final quarter. He had 10 disposals 2 contested marks, three tackles, and 5 inside 50's. Jarrod Pickett did some unfortunate things, like dropping a chest mark at centre half back but his 11 disposals, 3 tackles, and two inside 50's showed some promise. Harrison Macreadie had 5 disposals at 100% efficiency with 6 tackles and 4 1%ers. Sam Kerridge fumbled a lot in the rain, more so than he should. He only managed 8 possessions which included 4 clangers but kicked a goal to put the dagger in Essendon's heart.

GAME 26 Rnd 4 - LOSS vs Gold Coast (82-108)

Average: 129.9, 4.75

Sam Docherty collected 26 disposals at 80% efficiency with 13 marks, including 3 contested and 4 rebound 50's. Jack Silvagni had 14 disposals at 100% efficiency, 10 marks as he provided excellent link up play going forward, impressively he managed three goals including a ripper from outside fifty (with a lucky bounce) in a breakout game. Patrick Cripps continued to look laboured at time, spending a fair bit up forward in a match where he only found 17 disposals, 5 clearances but still laid 9 tackles showing he always puts in effort. Caleb Marchbank had 20 disposals, tool 8 marks, had 4 rebound 50's and 4 1%ers. Charlie Curnow looked really impressive in his return going through the midfield and showing a lot of potential in his 13 disposals, 6 mark, 3 inside 50's and only 1 clanger. He had a couple of shots on goal but couldn't slot any. Zac Fisher looked lovely on debut putting in some amazing effots to lay tackles and chase the ball. He has 12 disposals at 91% efficiency, 5 tackles and a brilliant goal. Jacob Weitering went back and forward but could only manage 9 disposals, 2 1%ers and a goal. Tom Williamson continued on from last week looking able on the wing and half back with 13 disposals, 3 rebound 50's and 3 tackles. Samo Petrevski-Seton had 10 disposals, no clangers, 3 clearances and 2 inside 50's in limited performance but an impactful one. Harrison Macreadie had some injury troubles only managing 9 disposals, 5 marks and 3 1%ers. Jarrod Pickett showed more run and should have finished a goal in front of Saad, only managing 9 disposals but kicked 1 goal. Lachie Plowman had 9 disposals, 3 marks, one clanger, 6 1%ers.

Patrick Cripps... there were rumblings he was out of form on this board, a piece of his shine had seemed to have worn off and he came our and reminded anyone who doubted him how special of a player he is. The beast had 37 Disposals, 18 contested possession, 7 clearances, 2 centre clearances, a rebound 50, five tackles and two inside 50's with only three clangers all game, what a star. Sam Docherty joins him at the top of the stat box again with 29 disposals of his own, 7 marks, 3 clearances in a fresh look at how he plays through the midifield, and a very large 11 rebound 50's throw in 3 1%ers and only 2 clangers and it was a quality performance. Charlie Curnow had a run on the ball and showed us some promising glimpses. Although he had 4 clangers and went at only 63% eff, he had 19 pretty impactful disposals that included 3 inside 50's and 3 rebound 50s, he took two big contested marks and had one clearance. Lachie Plowman had the ball 17 times, going at 82% eff, down on his normal output, taking 7 marks, one contested and rebounding well 5 times. Jack Silvagni took 7 marks, had 18 disposals, made no clangers and kicked a goal. Sam Petrevski-Seton had 16 disposals but unfortunately had 5 clangers, he took a contested mark and had two clearances to remind us what he can do however. Caleb Marhcbank has been ultra-consistent finding another 13 disposals including 7 marks. His four clangers hurt but 8 1%ers shows just how pivotal he is to our defence. Tom Williamson looks at home at AFL level, with 18 disposals, 5 marks, 4 rebound 50's and 3 inside 50's he delivered the ball well by foot. The game was hard for any Carlton player to get really involved and it showed in our youth. Zac Fisher continued to run and carry delivering the ball inside 50 two time and found the footy 17 times. Cam Polson had a brilliant run down tackle but only found the pill 11 times and couldn't impact the game much. Jacob Weitering had a very quiet night only touching it 9 times, 5 1%ers were impressive from him however. Harrison Macreadie had 8 disposals and 2 1%ers. Jarrod Pickett had another quiet night with 3 clangers in 7 disposals, needs to show more.

Who to start the review off with? We had so many amazing performances this week. How about Caleb Marchbank, who was nominated for the rising star off the back of his 21 possession game which included 10 marks, 3 rebound 50's, 2 1%ers and 4 inside 50's from the back half. Sam Docherty was immense with 39 disposals, 12 marks, 5 rebound 50's and only 2 clangers in that amount of football, going at 87% over almost 40 touches is an titanic effort. Patrick Cripps didn't disappoint in his 50th game with 27 disposals, 7 marks, 4 clearances, 7 tackles and a crucial goal. Nick Graham came back in and didn't look out of place, managing to impact the game even off the half forward he managed 17 disposals at 88% efficiency, 6 tackles and four inside 50's, when pushed into the midfield he managed to pick up 3 clearances. Tom Williamson was so poised on the weekend, he ran through the center square like he was a class above, ignoring cheap passes to senior players calling for it and delivering it, lace out, to players forty metres ahead. Willo had 18 disposals, 4 marks, 5 1%ers and 2 rebound 50's. Sam Petresvki-Seton is this close to a breakout game, the mercurial midfielder had 20 disposals, 6 marks, 2 goal assists and a goal. Jacob Weitering looked at home leading up to the ball on the wing and provided an essential link in our forward entries. He had 17 disposals, even with a corked thigh that limited his game time, he went at 94% efficiency, took 8 marks, 2 contested marks and had 2 assists and a goal. Charlie Curnow keeps moving up into the midfield and I love it, he had 14 disposals, 6 marks, 2 contested marks including a Kouta like grab between two defenders on the wing and delivered the ball inside 50 twice, he is making a case to be considered for the rising star soon. Lachie Plowman had a down game this week with only 10 disposals, 5 marks, 3 1%ers and no clangers. He did his job but didn't stand out on the day. Billie Smedts didn't do a lot wrong although could have made better use of his chances. He had 14 disposals, 2 marks, 4 1%ers 1 goal and 2 score assists in a solid performance for his current standards. Zac Fisher had limited impact, only managing to find the ball 11 times, he had 2 inside 50's but couldn't make much impact. Jack Silvangi got injured int he first quarter and could only manage 2 disposals a mark and a behind.

Take a bow Samo Petrevski-Seton, a rising star nomination, 21 disposals, at 71% DE%. His moments in the match where astounding, he made kicks you wouldn't see from 99% of the competition, he had 3 clearances, 2 rebound 50's, 3 tackles, 2 1%ers, two beautiful goals and a goal assist to Casboult. Caleb Marchbank picked up coaches votes for his 21 disposal game including 9 marks, 6 intercept marks, 3 contested marks, 5 rebound 50's and 3 1%ers he is an absolute star in the making down back. Sam Docherty continues to influence every game he plays with 22 disposals at 86% eff 9 marks, 5 rebound 50's, 4 tackles and a goal assist. Nick Graham has been underrated since he has come back in and continues to play really solid football. He had 19 disposals, 10 marks on a wing and half forward, 5 tackles, 2 inside 50's and a goal. Patrick Cripps looked so mobile at points and running down a wing looked magnificent before he ended up getting tackled over the line. Crippa had 25 disposals, 5 marks, 5 clearances and 8 tackles. Sam Kerridge didn't have much of an impact on the day with 9 disposals at 66% but 9 tackles meant he earned a spot on the day. Charlie Curnow looks like he will take himself to another level at any moment, he had 14 disposals, 5 marks, 1 contested mark and 3 inside 50's. Lachie Plowman goes under the radar with his performance on some dangerous smalls, he had 10 disposals at 100% efficiency, 4 marks, 5 tackles and 6 1% efforts. Tom Williamson had a quieter game only finding the ball 1 times, he had 2 tackles and 2 inside 50's. Jacob Weitering had 10 disposals, 2 marks, 1 clearance and 2 inside 50's. Billie Smedts needs to make far more impact, 7 disposals, 1 inside 50, 1 tackle and 1 1%er.

Patrick Cripps is a phenom, he looked a fraction off the pace in the first five minutes, at one point he mucked up a shot on goal and got run down, but every moment after that he was a bull, making up for the minor mistake he'd made. He finished with 30 disposals, 20 contested possession, at 80% efficiency. He only had 1 clanger (the aforementioned missed goal) took 11 marks including a game high 4 contested marks. He had 8 clearances, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50's and 2 goals straight to almost drag Carlton over the line. Sam Docherty had 26 disposals, at 80% efficiency, his 11 marks and 7 rebound 50's across half back are common place for the experienced defender who makes the game look easy. 6 tackles, 2 1%ers and a goal assist capped off another star performance. Caleb Marchbank continues to build, he had 20 disposals, 10 marks, 2 rebound 50's, 3 tackles and 3 inside 50's in a rounded performance than makes you forget he's only played 14 games. Nick Graham is still underrated he had 6 marks, 2 clearances, 18 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50's and a worm burning pass inside 50's for a goal assist. Lachie Plowman's 13 possession game at 92% efficiency was composed, 4 marks, 1 clearance, 1 rebound 50 and 3 tackles capped off his game. Samo Petrevski-Seton had a very quiet first half but built into the game with 12 touches, 5 marks, 1 contested mark, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50's and a behind. Jack Silvagni had 8 disposals but made an impact, including a storng defensive run with Dylan Roberton who was in AA form. SOS had 6 marks, 2 contested marks, 2 tackles and 2 goals, but he did manage 6 clangers. Charlie Curnow had 8 disposals, 5 marks including 3 contested, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50's and a goal. Tom Williamson could have had more impact across half back finishing with 9 disposals, 3 marks but kicked his first goal in AFL footy. Jacob Weitering kicked our first goal, took 4 marks but only had 9 disposals and 3 clangers. His performances up forward are not living up to his ability down back and it is stalling his development. Zac Fisher struggled to impact the game with only 8 disposals, but his 5 marks showed he can still have an impact around the ground.

No graph yet, you need a couple of weeks for it to mean something, also SEN still haven't updated their s**t yet.

In a fairly disappointing loss it was our youth that was one shining light out of the night. Lachlan Plowman was even named at CHB in the Champion Data AFL Ratings Points team of the week showing just how much of an influence he had. It is really encouraging to see these sort of performances starting to come from our younger brigade (besides Cripps and Doc). But anyway, let's get into the numbers.
From a pure numbers point of view they are both encouraging and discouraging, but from a practical perspective they are nothing but good. On the bad side, our total average plummeted this game compared to Round 23 last year. This game our youth averaged 125.74, by comparison we were at a peak of 176. at the end of last year. Carlton has not fielded a side that averaged less than 130 across its youth since Round 6 of last year. Obviously this is an expected result, in Round 1 this year Carlton played four players with under 20 AFL Player Ratings points, the maligned Billie Smedts and three debutants. This will happen at the start of any season as recent draftee's reinvigorate the club and begin building their AFL Player Ratings Score. What was very important for Carlton was they played 11 youth players (or alumni, alumni being players who were 23 or under at the start of the rebuild in 2016). This number was only surpassed ONCE in season 2016, when Carlton played 12 youth players in Round 15. As these debutants play games throughout the year we will see their ratings rise and the ratings of the overall youth group rise as well. Onto the players games.

Reckon this will be a fun thread to follow in 2017 with this year shaping as one of significant development.

Didn't get the win on Thursday night but there was plenty to like about the performances of our younger players.
Even looking at who I voted for in the poll, I have changed my mind big time.

I can edit the poll & add new players in if you want.
Sure J. Thanks!

Same question as before. Who will be B22 by Round 23 2018 and just add the new players. If it is too many poll positions just put some of the clear fringe players like galluci, gorringe etc in an "Other" category

I have added our most recent trades (Marchbank, Pickett) and ND selections (SPS, Fisher, Macreadie, Polson, Williamson, Kerr).

Unfortunately we have reached the limit of poll options so cannot add any more at this stage.

We're also not able to change the order of poll options - eg. moving "Other" to the bottom of the poll - as it changes the name but does not transfer the number of votes with it.

Updated votes.

Lamb out and all but Kerr from this years crop added. Reckon he may take a little longer.

Ended up with 14, which would be awesome if correct.
