Go to the Dreamteam/AFL Fantasy board, I have a players of interest thread there. Really like Hrovat as a forward option even though he seems a little expensive at 405k.
Thank you for the reference i managed to find it eventually and i will post as
more team lists come out. It is good they have changed some players
position designation as the forward and defensive stocks were thin at very
best and in the end most teams were almost identical.

Cheers mate. Heard anything about the general vibe of the place after the off season? You said he was sad to see macca and it pricked my interest
I think a few were sad to see him go but he did say that it was time for a change - so personally he liked him but he acknowledged that it was time for someone else.

I say Tomlinson has all the attributes to become Nick Riewoldt MK2. However as you said he's not a KPP, he has to learn to be a CHF at his size, he'd be 6"5 and 95-100kg, that's big enough. Good to hear Daniel is doing everything right to be in contention.
He doesn't have the competitiveness of Riewoldt. But he has the physical attributes, I agree with that.

I think Suckling's ability is flattered by being part of an excellent team - but that said, I definitely think he's competent enough to have a role with us. Was big on him when Hawthorn supporters were shopping him around mid-year and would be very keen to get him in through FA if the price is right.
Suckling is a poor mans Fuller or is that the other way around.;)

I wouldn't mind trying to lure either James Sicily or Billy Hartung from the hawks
Watched a lot of them this year in the vfl and reckon they could provide great outside run and over athletic skill to our side.

I was amazed Sicily went so late in the draft. I really thought Hawthorn cleaned up last year... then Garlett up & left...

I said the same thing earlier in the year
At least if we got Suckling we know that he can play AFL, unlike some of the other attacking HBFs we've targeted in the past (exclude this years lot)

Yeah I agree with that. Strikes me as the kind of player fans get really excited about poaching, but then get really disappointed when he plays a less flashy & free wheeling role at his new club.

Also not sure he would fit in with our current (pending Beverages influences) game plan. He really needs space to operate.

Undoubted talent though.

Just don't think we can afford to get another 'big price' player in. First and foremost, Bontempelli, Stringer, Macrae and Dahlhaus have to all be protected. I say we just draft a gun mid with our 2015 first rounder which realistically will be in the top 6 picks and then maybe trade a 2nd or 3rd rounder for an outside mid or KPD who can slot straight into our defence if all goes astray. Boyd was our big name/big price trade, we just have to filter remaining coin into our other young guns. The list we have presently first and foremost must be all held together and if we can add a important defensive/outside mid cog or two. Carlisle will be at least 800k and quite simply as much as I want him/ we can't afford a dahlhaus to walk straight out the door because in his mind he isn't making enough money.
Definitely agree. Especially not at the age groups of the players we'd be interested in. Maybe we could get one for a couple of years, but I don't think we could pay another big money long term deal considering our kids.

I'd be happy with Suckling too if one of either Biggs & Darley don't become regular senior players - but to be honest I think one of them will.

Man, average players suddenly become known as stars when they play in a good side.
sci hasnt play any afl games yet
i watched about 10 vfl games on his
he reminds me of WHE a bit

Happy with Suckling and I think we should look at Jack Steven if he remains a 2015 free agent, which to my knowledge he is. Whilst I have said that I don't think any players who we need to accomodate really big coin for (800k + long term contract) I think Steven might be around that 4 year 600k range (pure speculative I know) but I think really that is the limit we should be setting ourselves in terms of contract length and size etc. Really that extra coin we have should be filtered towards our young 5 stars ((Stringer, Bontempelli) the 2 most important plus (Macrae, Dahlhaus and Libba (Dont really think we have to worry to much about libba though)). I think going after WHE would cause more angst than good as know doubt other melbourne clubs will come knocking and that means that deal would skyrocket to almost 6 years plus big money and we cannot afford to many of those on our list. Also GWS would ask for Dahlhaus or another of our young guns in return and we cannot afford our list to go backwards/not go forwards. Players like Suckling and Steven will instantly add to what we have. Carlisle with the ASADA thing/contract size might not be the greatest idea so instead I'd be looking at McGovern/Astbury (if he can get his body right) and hope we could use an early 2nd rounder/ late first rounder to trade one in if need be.

I don't think St Kilda would be too displeased if Steven left as they would probably get another top 5 pick. Could be an option we look at.

Mate if we got Steven I'd say wed be top 8 in 2016. Pass on Astbury, don't need a Tommy Williams MK2

What? Him leaving would be the equivalent to the Demons losing Jones. Him and an ageing Riewoldt are the only A grade players they have left. If Stevens leaves they may as well fold.

Don't think Steven is the equal of Jones, Steven had Goddard, Dal Santo, Hayes, Montagna to feed off the majority of his career so far whereas Jones had absolutely nothing and has won 2 more best and fairests. St Kilda want draft picks and I think Steven if he left would get St Kilda a band 1 compo the likelyhood of that being in the top 3 would be very very high due to St Kilda probably ending up with the spoon or at least in the bottom 2 in 2015. Whilst disappointed it would almost be a pretty similar scenario to Frawley and St Kilda would snap up another top 5 pick gleefully, keeping in mind that their strategy was get as many first round picks as possible from 2012 - 2015 and then attack the 2016 free agency period with all that money they have.

Steven isn't the equal of Jones and is sometimes prone to injury. Jones is durable and consistent and would be seen as a top 5 - 10 midfielder at a good club, no question.

Completely agree - he's an excellent kick given time and looks great in an accomplished back line, but he has quite a few clangers in him and I'm not convinced he's worth a big fa push.

But if he was on the market it would be difficult to ignore....

Also GWS would ask for Dahlhaus or another of our young guns in return and we cannot afford our list to go backwards/not go forwards.

This has been said by a few posters and I agree about 85% - I love what Dahlhaus does for us, but if we're serious about going deep in September we need smalls who are genuine goal threats (breust, ballantyne etc.). Unless he steps up his goal kicking - particularly set shots - I wouldn't put him in the unthinkable trade bracket with our other top line youngsters.

The club wouldn't dare trade Dahlhaus. They've spent 3 years promoting him as the face of the club - the junior membership is named after him!

If the offseason 'mail' is to be believed, Melbourne were sniffing around and were told to shove it.

That said, I agree that he shouldn't be in the 'untouchable' basket unless he cleans up his kicking for goal. He's such a weapon, but the lack of class when he gets on the end of it can really hurt us. Boyd and Stringer are dead-eyes, and Crameri's an enigma, but if we can get guys like Hunter, Honeychurch and Dahlhaus shooting straight, we'll be pretty effective going forward, with the right structure.

Which player of any value isn't untouchable, if we were pursuing, say, a Carlisle/Hoskin-Elliott type, and Essendon/GWS wanted a player?

I have 6 pure untouchables/unthinkables that I would never ever trade. Not for 2 first round picks. That is Stringer, Bontempelli, T.Boyd, Macrae, Liberatore, Dahlhaus. Those 6 are our 6 superstars/future superstars we have on our list and the 6 most important cogs on our premiership tilt. Dahlhaus I'd think is the most at risk and the one I'd probably be ok losing out of those 6 if it ever came to it. Stringer and Bontempelli are the two players who are the most important I believe to us breaking our premiership drought. Those 2 bring fans through the gate through sheer brilliance and where much of our salary should be directed. I'd say both of them would be in most of our top 3 - 4 favorite players. Stringer is obviously my favorite!!

If say a Hrovat was needed or someone else like Hunter was needed to consist of such a trade or free up cap space I'd strongly consider it although I think Hrovat might join our superstar 6 at the end of next year.
