Not sure what Josh Hill has to do with them TBH.
So far the Hill brothers have been linked to Carlton and us. We're also into Jack Martin (quite openly).

I'd really be looking at Adelaide. Like Freo they have a few that are gettable (Keath likes Adelaide but may be available, Greenwood as a tough HF would be gold, and Fogarty hasn't got a look in so we should ask the question).

Tom Browne says we're into Tippa so we can rule a line through him. Browne is just Barrett with a different haircut and less reliable information.
Brad Hill has also been heavily linked to the Saints, and Stephen to the Suns.

If i was dogs, i would trade and do a package for Keith and Fogarty
That'd potentially be our 1st rounder gone. My concern with Fogarty is that he's not exactly blowing the competition away in the SANFL. Averaged less than a goal a game (15 games for 8.7), and while he may be able to play in defence, I'm not sure he's good enough back there.

Compare him to McBean, who is 202cm, 98kg and has kicked 45 goals from 15 games. Is only 24 and has previous AFL experience. Would cost us nothing by picking him up at the back end of the draft, and could slot in pretty quickly alongside Schache and Naughton, while acting as ruck relief for English.

I just worry that Fogarty is no better than what we already have in Schache, and would rather see us draft someone later in the main draft and try to develop them. The fact he was a Pick 12 adds artificial value to his trade price, which puts me off

I believe this is why they are low balling Nathan jones.

I thought they were low balling him as he's fallen off a cliff. Tough situation though as he was the only one cracking in 100% as they were trying to recover from the tanking years & deserves a bit more respect

Problem with Nathan Jones is that he was a great player in poor sides, now that the talent has gone past him.
he doesn't realize his true value on the market.

I find the Jones situation interesting. He has been such a loyal servant but all year iv been saying he is finished.

But then the reported low ball figure which was offered to him does seem too low and its not like anyone is forcing him out of the side.

I would offer Jones a contract with a trade clause. IF he gets traded the new team pays him xxx salary and the Dees pay $250k. IF he doesn’t find a new home, Dees pay him $200k.

This gets him an incentive to move and the money he wants.

Dees will be bottom 4 next year without him. So, any picks they get for him are gold.

Do the Hills allegedly want out because of Ross Lyon? And is it possible they'll be put off from coming to us by Josh Hill? Didn't part ways on the best of terms unless I'm thinking of someone else?

Funnily enough - Josh Hill now works at Carlton.

(not that it means anything).

Our scoring has increased massively this year. I'm not so sure our forward line is such a pressing issue that we can't fix through acquiring role players like Lloyd, or recruiting elite forwards through the top end of the draft.

We played with Rhylee West, Bailey Dale and Zaine Cordy up forward and managed to score 113. I'd like to see if we can do something with what we have for the remainder of the season before we overcommit to a big name like Freo did with Hogan (who, unfortunately for them, has not earned his paycheck so far)
Agreed. Not sure why people keep mentioning our attack being in such dire straights, it holds up pretty well looking at competition wide metrics.

we also recruited a small pressure forward last year in caverra, who hasnt had a chance to show us what he has at afl level due to some unfortunate untimely injuries

We have a mountain of possession in midfield that gets kicked into f50 and we poorly convert the dominance.
If we converted at a mid-table rate (league average), then we score 4+ goals more (I think I read that is the difference, it may be more).

Similarly IF we kick straighter at again a mid-table (league average), we score 15+ points more per game.

So how much improvement do we get from our existing guys getting better and more confident in their roles ??

To me, that’s the big unknown. Schache is clearly improving, Naughton will benefit from another year in the gym and training with the forward group. West and Cavarra should also improve, and hopefully the entire group starts to gel.

But how much is that worth ??

This is as good a place as any to admit I was wrong about Sam Lloyd last year in the trade/list management thread.
He's come good, hasn't he. The bloke isn't outstanding in any clear way, but does what he does very well in a consistent manner. He is good for a couple each week, runs, hassles, is always in the thick of it causing the oppo defense trouble, leads, marks, solid set shot. Very good pick up who has taken his opportunity with both hands. WE have done very well with Lloyd and Crozier.

He's on track to kick close to 40 goals in the H&A rounds. That's more than Stringer did in 2016. It would be our second best return since the days of Barry Hall.

His season best is 35 goals from 22 games in 2016 but he looks set to surpass that this year.

If you'd asked me before Round 1 the chances of a fringe trade player coming in and kicking 40, I'd have said about 5%.
No doubt he's one of the success stories of 2019.
