I think the key is to make the Keath Deal happen early without using either of those first two picks (13,32). Can we turn 45,51,53 into a pick in the mid 30s and give that to the crows in a straight swap.

Then we can go for the jugular with the saints. Offer pick 32 for Bruce and then up the offer to include a steak knives player. 32 and one of Jong/Lynch etc being our final offer.
Why would lowballing for Bruce be our final offer?
And Jong and Lynch aren't going to help all that much in landing decent players,I don't even think Jong played a game this year, and Lynch certainly didn't.

Seem to be taking a Scatter Gun approach to it rather than considered choices

Exactly.

Are Richmond or West Coast or the Pies, crawling over themselves to get Howard, Jones or Ryder?

You don’t and there’s a reason for that. Big difference between smart and considered trades and the ‘bulk trades of anyone to give our fans false hope’

Petruccelle being mentioned as possibly wanting to return to Victoria. Saints, Hawks, Roos and you name it, us being linked.
His manager came out early in the trade period saying that he will not be leaving WCE he loves it there etc etc. Take it with a grain of salt I suppose

For the record, i asked some journo dude on the fox sports live trade chat if he heard anything about Petruccelli, he shut it down straight away.

Id love him in our forward half.

The fact is we can't act like StKilda or Carlton in this trade period because we have set on a policy of keeping our list together. It's clear that, with the obvious exceptions of a couple of fringe players, Bev and co are happy with our list and we won't be trading to upgrade our position in the trade. If we wanted to part with higher profile players we too could throw the net wide. With what we've got, it's Bruce and Keath and that's really all the ammunition we have.

Saints are going to win trade week so hard.

They won’t win anything else, but they’ll always have this week.
Depends what 'winning' is. They may get the most shiny new toys, but if they lose 2 of their best players and all decent draft picks for 2 years in a time of rebuild, how much have they won?

I reckon St Kilda need our 13 now more than ever to get Howard over the line.

We should definitely see what they're willing to include if we are willing to part with it.

13 for Bruce plus a future second?

13 + a third for JB + F2nd + F3rd?

Great way to bank points for next year's very promising academy haul while striking an excellent bargain.

How, in the holy spirit of Harambe, do St Kilda get Hill, Howard, Ryder & Jones as well as what they think with King next year, with only 6, 59, 76, & 82??

Hill will be pick 6 at least, Howard should be a 2nd rounder at absolute worst, 59 is probably about right for Ryder (or 76 if Port want to dump his salary), 82 is nothing. What they get for Steven may be enough for Jones for a late 2nd or early 3rd.

If they trade away any of next years picks it will hurt for King, which means we probably won’t get a future pick if 13 is involved unless there is a 2nd player Saints are going to give up as a charity.

Ben Long & Bruce for 13 & one of our mid/later picks?

Since Geelong are in the mood for drafting:
Bulldogs: Picks 17, 24, 37
Geelong: Picks 13, 32, 45, 53

24 for Bruce, 37 for Keith - Us
Geelong, Saints, Sydney, Port: 32 and 45 for Steven, into 24 plus 2020 change for Howard, into 32 plus 2020 change for Jones, into 45 for Ryder

We should have been all over Howard... bloody hell who picks saints .. they cannot play all those talls then get Ben King

Why should we have and what makes you so certain that Ben King will be at the Saints next year?

What is obvious is that we have a clear strategy of keeping our first and then trading for a couple of mid-range players as a means of lifting our age profile. Its a system that has been in place since we cleaned house after 2016 and seems to be working a charm in my view. Only on bigfooty do list managers measure their success by the number of names that a club may or may not be linked to. As it stands with almost an entire week to run on the trade period, we havent missed out on those that we have a public interest in and certainly nobody of note who was either fit for purpose or obtainable. Gnashing teeth over fringe players the likes of Dougal Howard...please!

They will wait until next year to try and land king

I’m being facetious here. Saints the new Bummers.

I’d love to get Ben Long back through our doors.

Dougal nominates the saints

In an interesting aside Port Adelaide drafted two academy kids from Queensland Logan Austin and Dougal
Howard, if Dougal joins the Saints they would have them both now that is an interesting draft journey. :moustache:

Sorry, trade week is boring me to tears.

I’d be expecting Bruce and a future second and the very least anyway. If they needs us more than ever I’d want more than that.
There future second might also go to Swans for Jones.
