I was suggesting that Macrae be allowed to explore other opportunities months ago….
Glad that some of you have caught on.

Now about the other slow one…. his rotation partner in position and slowness.

I have no doubt Macca would return to elite numbers if he attend 90% of CBA’s like he has done most of his career.
Would that be good for the team though? The game appears to be moving past players who aren’t elite defensively or on the spread. Even as a ball winner, he’s simply not as good as Libba, and we cant be running both in the centre so we prioritise the better player

I’ve been advocating for it for years lol. Always rated him as an elite player, but it’s been obvious for a while that he’s too one paced and too lacking in defensive game to be worthwhile continuing with in my opinion. Totally with you on this one

Can see it being similar to Daniel Cross back in the day support for a young team

(Hey we're on page 1000, time for a new thread?)
Would be nice if all the List Management Threads and Draft threads were based for the year only. Would be easier to archive them, and find if one ever wanted to look back at something.

Say the 2024 Draft thread starts a couple weeks after 2023 Draft itself ends, and runs to a couple weeks past the 2024 draft etc. And archived into a 2024 folder, along with the 2024 games and list management etc.

He is just too slow and if we don’t have the ball, is a witches hat.

How we have him such a long deal is a surprise to me. It never should have happened. Would happily let him leave for very little IF we don’t have to pay the salary.

WC should also be interested. They need a senior someone.

Send him to Geelol and then start beating them for once.

For me he is a perfect fit for the Bombers finally gets them a big bodied mid that they need

Caleb Re-Signed for 4 years it was Bailey Dale and Jack Macare that Re-Signed for 5 years
Semantics. It's a year into that contract and he's behind Dale and Richards as rebounding defenders, and not a first choice midfielder. He's a decent utility, but we're already playing Macrae in a similar role. They both have good skills and are decent clearance players, but are slow on the spread and poor defensively. It's a big reason why our current midfield mix isn't working.

That’s the $64k question isn’t it? The mix just isn’t working as it, English + whatever mix of Bont/Libba/Macca/Adz/Caleb/Baz has not stood up now for almost two years.

Unbelievable Macrae has one down year and a few people on this board wants to trade him.
He was fairly poor towards the end of last season top if I recall correctly. Fine if he's carrying an injury but if this is his new level his contract is a concern. I love Macrae but, taking emotion out of it, we aren't getting much value out of his long term contract if this is how he plays moving forward unfortunately. I hope he's just injured.

Zerrett’s balls have finally dropped, he’s a proper bull now, no more soft outside stuff which he had been in his career to date.

I am not going to write him off after one down year like you I hope he is carrying some kind of injury

I've been mentioning it for 2 years, but Daniel is the one we should have moved on. A 5 year contract for a guy with significant limitations was poor.

We’ve got a list with a lot of dumb footballers on it. The smartest of them by a long way may have some height limitations, but he offers more than 98% of the rest.

I'm not writing him off either, but I also think it's fair to discuss given he signed a 5 year contract only last year. It can quickly become a problem. Fingers crossed he turns it around, be it form or injury.

For clarity, it’s not so much an issue with Macrae himself, but with the mix as you said. Always thought it was strange we kept both Daniel and Macrae. Should have been one or the other, and personally I’d pick Daniel because he has points of difference we don’t get from other players (ground ball game is elite, as is his short range kicking and vision), is presumably a cheaper contract, and can play multiple positions.
