What do people think Hayden Crozier does next? 2 x Top 10 B&F finishes in 2018 and 2019 before signing a 3 year extension presumably on good money given his form before the 2020 season (still contracted for 2023) and then seemingly falling off a cliff.

Does anyone else pick him up for 2-3 years for basically free at the trade table? He’s good depth but with all the re-signings to do clearing his salary might be useful if he’s not in the frame for getting games.

Well he is going to be needed now. Dureya is 32 next year and facing a major injury.

I wouldn’t be trading Crozier to anyone.

Want to keep West and Garcia. Also schache as a utility is a great squad player as can play forward or back. I think the pies would be mad to not offer a deal to schache but I hope we keep him

2022:
Jason Johannisen - 1 year / listen to offers. May have a small role to play going forward on small $
Toby McLean - 1 year. Extremely talented player at one time, you give him the chance just for the romance of it if nothing else.
Josh Dunkley - Probably wants a 2 year to take him to free agency. Happy to oblige
Rhylee West - 2 years. Come leaps and bounds recently as a small forward. Can be successor to Libba if he can keep his head on straight.
Alex Keath - 2-3 years. No further explanation needed.
Josh Schache - 1-2 years / listen to offers. Can play some roles and be back up going forward but if a half decent offer comes we should consider it. Never going to be what we'd hoped.
Bailey Smith - Just sign him up.
Mitch Hannan - 1 year. Bevo clearly loves what he does even if we don't so he gets a deal as long as this concussion situation can be sorted.
Dominic Bedendo - 2 years. Developing well in the VFL. Not sure what position or role he'll play but with his quality he'll find a spot eventually.
Riley Garcia - 2 years. Gun young player who just needs to get his body right.
Louis Butler - 1 year / delist. Shows little upside in a position we're stacked in. Lean towards delisting.
Zaine Cordy - 1 year, last chance. For gods sake Zaine get in the gym and show us you're serious about this caper.
Taylor Duryea - 1 year if knee injury not to bad. More likely retire
Mitch Wallis - 1 year / listen to offers / delist. Flip a coin on this one. Great clubman and leader but unlikely to be seen at AFL much going forward. Could be good experience for a North?
Stefan Martin - Retire. Cooked
Buku Khamis (Cat B Rookie) - 2 years. Thought he was no chance 12 months ago, seriously impressed with his development, more than just an athlete, a seriously talented third tall either forward or back. Happy to give him a couple years to really find his place.
Charlie Parker (R) - 1 year. Raw but has upside.
Robbie McComb (R) - 1 year. I like him more than most do but he obviously has his flaws. Happy to give him a year with the goal being to ultimately find better options with more upside.
Cody Raak (Cat B Rookie) - 1 year / delist. Lean towards the 1 year as we do lack lockdown small/mediums, but I'm not confident he can ever reach the level.

Do we still need three spots for the draft these days? If that’s the case we need to unfortunately make some calls. We can’t re-sign everyone.

One spot available with Martin retiring is the most obvious. The rest are hard to gauge.

There’s a few resignings and contract lengths I’d pare back.

I think Martin and Butler are certainties to be off the list. I’d rather a shot at the next Bedendo in the 3rd-4th round vs. keeping Hannan on the list. Cordy and Wallis probably come off the list for me too - if they’re getting games we’re not winning the big one.

Duryea is injury dependent as well. If it’s an MCL he stays. If it’s an ACL I’d delist but commit to him for the MSD if he’s back playing for Footscray by that time next year.

Hope our draft is going to consist of everyone over 195cm.
First pick just has to be best key defender doesn’t it, need to both trade in a quality defender and draft one. Draft another ruck too at some stage in the draft, then we’re probably closer to the right balance list wise.

Defenders - Keath, “traded in”, O’Brien/Buku with Gards back up and a developing option weve drafted with a high pick

Rucks - English, Sweet back up with drafted option developing, Darcy potentially

Forwards - Naughty, Bruce, Jamarra, Schache back up with Darcy developing

Dunkley is a free agent at the end of this year.
Keath is close to be being cooked. Terrible first half last night. Not a great year so far.
Cordy is crap but I trust him more Gardner or OBrien and at least he is hard, a characteristic we are short on.
No one wanted Wallis last year, its either sign or delist.

if we give everyone a 1 or 2 year deal are we actually going to have room to recruit or trade to repair obvious holes in the list?
Going no were if we don't fix our defence, need to 3 in this area, 2 talls and small shutdown

Dunkley isn’t a free agent.

Keath won’t be getting more than 2 years at his age. Cordy getting anything more than 1 is ridiculous.

Seems like Duryea has done an MCL. Was an impact injury with f’face falling across his legs (was flailing around looking for a free kick but didn’t look intentional - for once). But likely to take him out for the rest of the year. He will be 32? Might be the end of the road but has been so dependable he might stay a year.

If he does stay expect Crozier to move - he is way too good for VFL and playing much better than TOB (has been very disappointing but only Cordy as competition) and is what we had almost none of - an intercept marker. Expect Crozier plays for rest of season but may be for another club. (1)

TOB is lucky - Has another year. Cordy is the kind of player who plays better depending on opposition and so looks bad in VFL and Parker is now injured and so no pressure to move him - if anyone wants him. BTW - I see why we got him and hope he finds his role soon - but at his age we can’t have him spending this long to hold his position on the best 22. No change.

Martin will retire- no surprises there. (2)

Wallis should move to either North of Gold Coast on a two year deal. He would be great for both and deserves it. I like him - would not trade home and would have him in my team above people like Scott, McComb and McNeil - but Bevo prefers all of them over him so NST makes sense he leaves while he can. (3).

Keath is having a poor year - did anyone else seen him shirk contests like he was worried about getting injured. He is to good to not give him a chance to get fitness or form - whatever it is.

McComb has been given a go and has put in - you can’t fault his effort and run but is he needed if García and McLean are back available? Don’t think so. Probably delist.(4)

Butler has probably not shown enough - at the start of the season he had put on muscle and more tank and looked promising- as the year has gone on Bedendo has past him and Roarke is ahead of him on the wing. At HBF - Cleary looks better. (5)

The chances of us losing one of the remaining Re-signings is pretty high. Smith will be fielding massive offers which I hope he rejects. Given he is restricted I can’t see him taking a. north Melb offer - Essendon has tried to f!ck us every year and so expect them to go for Dunkley and Smith in the hope of getting one - may end up offering Merrett and first draft pick - knowing they have to give to get and Merrett has dropped of form.

Of course they will first offer some insulting deal and try to create rumours to destabilise the club - managers will help because the payday is huge. For either.

For Smith - 7 year deal at $1m+ a year. This could be the blockbuster offer of the year. Hawthorn, Collingwood and others will be counter offering. For Dunkley similar but less per year and five years.

Don’t want to lose either but we need to be prepared to lose one.

Problem for those companies is what does Essendon, Hawthorn or Essendope have that we want? And for someone like North - we would take McKay and give him a premiership but they can’t afford to lose him.

Weird that the press came out about English but club didn’t - that may mean there is higher risk. This would be a disaster and we need to play hardball - no. If he goes to draft would he want to go to North or Essendope.

West Coast still looms large. They have players we need Barrass, Edwards and would have to give a ruck back like Bailey Williams. Freo have ruck covered but actually have more trade options - especially in KPD.

McLean and García will need to get through the next six months injury free - if they do will be extended - McLean is best 22 in form and García and West will hit peak soon and be very valuable.

Hannan should be at risk but Bevo loves him - Khamis should pass him by end of year if he keeps developing as the fourth forward.

So at least 5 above and maybe more with trades. That will be enough.

Well he is going to be needed now. Dureya is 32 next year and facing a major injury.

I wouldn’t be trading Crozier to anyone.
They play fairly different roles though - Duryea smaller lockdown, Crozier an interceptor (and TOB has taken the priority role there).

Daniel, Richards, Dale, Keath, Gardner, TOB are the set six right now - and JJ played back last night.

Why would we resign Cordy or Wallis?
Cordy on base salary is the type of player we should retain - can play a role week to week and is mature.
We can't have 40+ stars on the list and with so many players demanding to be paid well, role players on lower salaries will be needed on our list.

Keath is far from being cooked.

Genuine question and not looking to pot anyone , who would be the person who made the decision to trade for O’Brien? I assume Bev has final approval ( maybe with Grant and/or Power) just interested in whose role it is. Also is it the same person who nominates who we will draft?
