For those lamenting the loss of Young.

Ive always felt there is something missing with him, probably psychological. i once saw him just stand there after a marking contest while his opponent recovered and ran away with the groundball, ive never seen anything like it in AFL football, i thought to myself what is that? ive never been able to work it out. he is an enigma. he does the difficult well, and the easy poorly.

he was great in the air today and has had a good year, and would have been handy for us, but i wouldnt want him back next year, i found this comment on the Carlton board in response to someone rapping him up, it seems he hasnt changed and only those who watch the game intensely every week know.

"Young is good and bad. He has zero awareness of what's around him and zero intensity. Too many times today he just watched them get the ball when he should have gone at then and tackled them. Anytime he is involved with the ball in motion, he is lackadaisical"

Any handshake deal with Lobb should be taken off the table.

Sam Darcy is the man to play this role for the next 12 years. We don't need Lobb.
Getting a bit carried away mate. Darcy is a great talent but expecting him to take games by the scruff of the neck in the next couple of years is fairyland stuff. Lobb will be a handy pick up and take a bit of the heat off Jamarra as well and give another dimension to a predictable attack. I would get him.

Agreed. Let’s sort our backline out and we’ll be very dangerous next year. As we’ve seen Darcy can have an impact straight away with his height and marking abilities and after a full pre-season he’ll have even more impact.

He's got a lot physical development to go before he's ready for the ruck half of the forward/ruck role.

Absolutely. English does ruck a lot of minutes though and Naughton and other KPP's do share the chop out.

I don't think Darcy has the closing speed to play defence. His one wood is the ridiculous reach advantage he has. Generational forward/ruck prospect.

I'm not expecting him to dominate and be an AA level.

I do expect he could kick 30+ as a majority forward/ruck chop out as early as next year. Also i don't think Darcy has the closing speed to play in our zone and the way we get cut to ribbons isn't the best way to utilise him.

I want Lobb. Darcy will not be ready to take ruck minutes. A couple of years off that. I also don’t think Lobb will hinder Darcy’s development. Darcy will be playing every week next year. Darcy, Naughton, JUH, English, Weightman, Richards, Baz, Garcia, West. We have some excellent young talent. Throw in a few more experienced players that are A grade/Elite that still have years left - Bont, McRae, Dale, Dunkley (I think he’s gone though) - and we have all the ingredients to be a force for many years to come. We are just a couple of good trades and development of a better game plan away from making this happen. I think Lobb is one of those, and a quality KPD the other.
I don’t want Lobb.

Lobb would kick 30+, Darcy won't. Even a gun like Nick Riewoldt only kicked 20 in his second season and that was after 2 full pre seasons. I expect Darcy will play some very good games next year but also could be a bit up and down, once key defenders start seeing him as a threat and putting time into him. Getting Lobb for the next couple of seasons makes sense to me.

West must be priority 1A.

Dunks is a ship sailing away unfortunately.

Let's hope it isn't Port OR Essendon. Port are talking tough and ruling out their first selection.
Bergman + picks, if their first isn't on the table.

Naughton kicked 32 in his second season and never played forward in his life.

I think Darcy is well ahead of Jamarra (as a first year comparison). Not his strength or fitness but ability to impact the contest.

Max King is a pretty good reference point. King kicked 22 goals from 18 games in 2020 (with reduced match time).

I do think Lobb will add something but I think it is a waste of cap needed elsewhere more.

Assuming we need 6 tall forwards:

  • Next year we have a fit Bruce who is a 50+goal FF
  • Naughton (the knee needs a rest) - he score 51 without being fit
  • the continued growth of Marra
  • Schache is a decent option as a back up and has got better again this year. Looks harder and is now prepared to take the long kick.
  • Young Raak is currently playing forward - still see him more as a third defender

Darcy being swung forward or even next year taking some ruck time and Tim swings forward.

Tall defence is a much bigger problem - at VFL level we are often unable to even play two tall defenders. Need 6 on the list - with a least two competitive
  • Keath is a star but will he recover from a terrible injury history
  • Gardner has improved this year - no doubt but is he a top KPD
  • Cordy has not gone forward this year and struggles to find a role.
  • TOB was a strike at this stage - has not fired a shot yet
  • Darcy is coming along beautifully but only a few games means he will be up and down for a couple of years
  • if we get Jones and Logue we will be off the chart better next year but need 2 talk KPDs coming through also.

This is what currently grinds my gears about this club. The same shit happened to Buku. LET THEM DEVELOP WHERE THEY NEED TO!

Makes sense. Especially if we are talking to Lobb and Logues managers. 3 way swap with Melb and Freo.

We could take a young inside mid with our first round then.
Would be a bloody disaster to give Dunks to Melb, geez he’s had a good month, and year really.

Hope he stays

No thanks on Lobb. Always hated that campaigner. The last thing we need is more tall forwards.

Jimmy Rowe is exactly what we need. Genuine pest crumber. Will absolutely light it up crumbing Naughton.

Gonna hurt massively to lose Dunks. If he goes to the Demons it will hurt 10x worse. Probably the toughest player on our list. Easily the best contested big body player we have. Best case scenario would be that he goes to an irrelevant club like the Bombers.
