Playing devil's advocate, as well as potentially forming a ruck/forward double-act, is Lobb also insurance if English's concussion issues persist?
I can see the benefits but also the negative effects.

English at the moment plays 70-80% ruck time so lobb would be 20-30% ruck max. It’s an upgrade on our current second ruck options.

The issue for me is you can’t fit Naughton, Bruce, Marra and Lobb in the same forward line. Does he halt Marras development? Yes Marra looks a preseason or two away but hasn’t had the opportunity to play third tall this season with Bruce out as he gets the second best defender not the third.

He doesn’t offer more forward than Bruce so he doesn’t take his place.

So the guy comes in to help in the ruck for 20-30% of game time when English rests. Does he offer enough forward to spend 70% game time forward and will he still offer more forward by the end of next season than Marra will?

Hard to get excited about Lobb type scenario when we seem not to be addressing KPD area

Keath is getting on and hamstring issues are becoming more regular.

Hopefully we are addressing KPD area
Not sure on his injury status, whether he’s still cooked or being held out by their defensive options but I’d be keen to get Hamling thrown in as steakknives in any Lobb deal

If naughton goes back we get the best defender in the comp
So you move a guy back that is on track to have kicked over 100 goals across 2 years to rely on a forward line of Bruce (coming off a knee reco), Lobb (a second ruck/forward) and Marra.

Very interested where you replace Naughtons 50+ goals a year from

Hard one to assess Hamling yes premiership player 2016 but for some periods in that year he seemed lost.
Since then hasn’t really had any continuity and is he the KPD we would want ? Is he too similar to Gardner?

Would you invest in Lobb or try get a McKay from North ?

My preference isnt necessarily to move naughton back, but to me logic would suggest the club is looking to move him back if they are picking up another key forward or they are unsure how Bruce will come back as second key.

Plus when jamarra comes on he willl come on a big way so I wouldn’t discount him being a 30 - 40 goal kicker. Add in bruce, lobb and potentially darcy - that’s plenty of fire power

Best part about the Fox Footy article is that we are expected to sign Bailey Smith for another two years and negotiations going really well. Need to work out $ but looks to be staying.

With the way Sweet has been rucking, wouldn't surprise me if he leaves if Lobb comes in and could be part of the deal. Maybe Sweet to the Eagles for something which goes to Freo along with something else to get Lobb in.

Just need to work the money … that teeny-tiny contractual detail.

Yeah not overly keen on Lobb. Sure he would have been great tonight, but he could be a 3 year road block on Darcy.

Forget pushing Naughton back. What happens if Darcy develops quickly (which is every indication).

How do you fit English, Lobb, Darcy and JUH in the same side. With Bruce in the squad and Naughton.

Seems dumb. Get a key defender, get out entire team on the park and stop this stupid 5m rule.

We might only have a few years where this current squad can contend. Can't not bring in a need on the off chance some 20 year olds come on. Our best forward line last year was Naughton, Bruce and English, with Martin rucking. Naughton, Bruce and Lobb with English rucking would be an upgrade on that. Let's be real, our F50 entries are often just bombs, may as well bring in a 205cm bloke that can clunk contested marks, unless we're planning on changing how we play.

In three years Darcy will still be only 21. Marra only 23. Marra might go past an ageing Bruce next year. If they're good enough they'll force their way in over that period, it's hardly putting a career roadblock in front of them.

I’d love to move up the draft order to get Busslinger and play him with Keath and Darcy as the tall defenders in 2023 (disclaimer: I also advocated trading up to get McAsey)

If Lobb comes then that's probably Schache and Dunkley gone. Hopefully the trade doesn't cost a lot.

I like Williams as a wing, and with West hitting his stride as a forward I feel it only leaves a key defender and a small defender as gaps.

FB: Richards, Keath, ????
HB: Daniel, Gardner, Dale
C: Williams, Libba, Hunter
HF: West, Naughton, JJ
FF: Lobb, Bruce, Weightman
R: English, Bont, Macrae
Int: Treloar, VDM, Smith, Duryea

I’d be considering VDM for a small defender role. With West, Weightman and JJ forward plus Toby McLean coming back and the rotating mids (plus McNeil can’t play anywhere else) I don’t see an opening for him.
