Agree with Young but can't get on board with Lipinski. Yes he is better than Scott, McComb, Hannan etc... but he is basically replicating his 2019 year with Collingwood but to more fanfare due to the fact he plays for the Pies. I don't see the role he could have played for us moving forward that could have satisfied his need to play midfield.

Nearly every time the going has got tough for the Pies - Lipinski has been completely absent. Not a loss to us this season, but good for him to get the move..

Lewis Young has openly said it was a mindset change for him that’s allowed him to play the way he is. As frustrating as it is, it’s likely the change of scenery caused him to reevaluate things. Had we kept him I’m not sure he would’ve been as good for us as he is for the Blues.

Lipinski isn’t worth being concerned about. He would’ve demanded double the amounts of our midfield depth now in terms of dollars.

If you look at the Pies board, they’re beginning to question Lippa with the exact same issues we’ve had for years. Lack of leg speed, toughness etc.

He’s a good solid player and will probably be for years to come. I don’t think he makes a difference to our current group at all. I guess he’s better than McComb though…

Mindset was one of the things amongst others.

There were other factors

Lewy wouldn’t have played backline for us. He would have again been second ruck, especially with Tim’s absences this year.

Perhaps. But without a sound mindset the other things are irrelevant.

Or the other factors impacted the mindset.

Everything works together and depend on each other.

What are the other things though? The only real public things we have to factor in are:

He was offered a contract that he declined.

He had a mindset change when moving clubs.

The rest is speculation.

THE AFL has opened the door for former Carlton and Western Bulldogs key defender Liam Jones

Hambling is not the prefer former player I would go for he is to banged up. I would go for Liam Jones.

Although it won’t happen, I’ve come around to the idea of having Hamling back. If we can get for nothing.

Older head, premiership player, experienced player in position of need.

Even if he was just depth and helped develop others we bring in, it would be beneficial for the club. We’ve got a real void when it comes to leaders and he’s the exact age bracket that could assist.

Plus, if we can get a season or two out of him, bonus.

This is what I am alluding to - Mindset may have changed because he is more settled and more comfortable and more confident.

For Young, the improved patch of form comes after virtually having to re-learn some of the key elements of playing in the backline after the last off-season's trade from the Western Bulldogs.

Initially drafted as an intercepting defender from Sturt in South Australia, Young spent 24 games across five seasons at the Whitten Oval being thrown around in a variety of different posts that culminated in being asked to challenge Sam Draper and Oscar McInerney in September.

He crossed to Carlton – essentially in exchange for Sam Petrevski-Seton after a three-way deal that also involved West Coast – as a means of "rejuvenating his career". The Blues liked his ability to play in the backline, and Young liked the idea of going back to the position where he felt most comfortable.

But there was teething pain. Young hadn't played in the role where he'd made his name for quite some time and was even leapfrogged in the Carlton pecking order throughout the season's early stages by rookie Oscar McDonald.

If Hamling or Jones is our answer...I swear

Yes the stupid thing we could have had a young Hambling or Jones of the Lewis variety if it was not for our pigheaded coach. He preferred to reward a limited abiilty player who is a good clubman and gives 100% effort over someone with talent and just needed the same run at it to prove his worth.

I’ve partaken in the Lewis Young discussion as well but I reckon we shelf it for this thread moving forward. This thread is about what we do moving forward. Lewis Young rightly or wrongly isn’t part of the club moving forward. There’s copious amounts of Bevo hate threads for that.
