Article in the Herald Sun we are going to have a good draft hand this year

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Round 1: 1 x Own, 1 x linked to Brisbane

Round 2: 1 x linked to Brisbane

Round 3: None

Round 4: 1 x Own, 1 x linked to Melbourne, 1 x linked to Geelong

The Bulldogs made the most of Josh Dunkley’s move to Brisbane during the trade period. They got a second-round selection in this year’s draft which they used on small forward Charlie Clarke (pick 24). They also got hold of the Lions’ first and second-round selections next year as well as a fourth-round pick which is tied to Geelong. The Bulldogs gave up two future third-round picks alongside Dunkley as part of that deal.

Last time we had two firsts we picked up Naughton and Richards, not a bad haul.

I think end of this year we will pretty much do what Richmond did last year - pick up two established inside mids with our two first rounders

We need to ensure that we keep our midfield humming along whilst we wait for our young forwards to hit their prime

Finn Callaghan is one that the club should ask the question if he is keen on coming back home

Reckon GWS would ask for both our firsts, which raises the question - one former pick 3 with two years in the system and a connection to the club, or two highly rated draftees?

From what we’ve seen of the draft class so far I like Will Lorenz (silky and skilled mid who can kick goals) and Sam Frangalas (classic bull).

Would rather hit the draft and develop our own players but that’s just me

If he's out of contract, they can ask all they want. Sam Power has shown he will deal fairly, but won't budge from what he values the player at. Reckon they'd end up taking 1 first rounder late in trade period when push comes to shove.

Bit of a double edged sword, really. You'd want Callaghan to show a bit this season for proof of concept as his first was a little underwhelming, but the more he shows he can play, the higher his price goes.

If they're two picks in the 12-16 range I think I'd just run with them.

Not Footy related and I don't know if any of you watch tennis but if you get a chance watch Rinky Hijikata next match. Kid's got some genuine crowd appeal and swagger. Could be the next Lleyton.

Anyway..... The boys are looking great in training, very sharp.

Especially if Darcy missed his first pre-season and a bit of this one, while growing about 7cm in the 15 months following his draft

KPFs do generally take a while to develop too (personally I see Darcy becoming a forward by 2025). I do think he could be an intercepting defender before then (at times) because his reading of the ball in flight is elite. Innate football ability in that respect, which is no surprise as a 3rd generation player.
Spoke to Luke Darcy down at Sorrento footy oval around NYE and he said Sam is 11cms taller than him!
Holy f$&k!

Luke is apparently 197cm, so that would put Sam at 208. There was an article back in August saying he was 209.5cm. Splitting hairs, but he’s going to be almost unstoppable with his reading of the ball in the air. Or he’ll set all types of free kick records.

I think of the years.... no decades, where we were crying out for any talented talls for our club!!! and now we are borderline top heavy.
It is totally bizarre. When i was at chatting with Darc senior he was there with his other sons and they look like younger versions of Sam...
Does anyone know if his younger boys Willson and Max are getting involved in footy and are on the Bulldogs radar?.... this situation we are now in could possibly get ridiculous!

Dogs for 15 years unable to get another key forward to slot into their system

Dogs the last 4 years: Yalll like Key forwards?

One of our previous greats was able to father a quality tall defender!

Bulldogs forward entry tactics 2023-2035: “**** it, there’s some tall blokes down there somewhere”

Actually, it’s pretty much what we did last year with no success :straining:

We generally had about 1.5 tall blokes down there and then twelve defenders hanging off Naughton
