Still playing fantastic footy but I think the time to acquire him was two years ago. We have much bigger pressing needs.
I think there’s a hole for a classy forward in the Bruest mould - definitely have more pressing needs but would take him for nothing for a 2 year shot at a flag, relies on smarts & skills not athleticism so will probably play good footy til late - another 40 goals, what a career this blokes had.

Cody, Bruest & West is a nice trio, would take him on the cheap

Add Jimmi Roe to that list

Any old mid, yeah for sure. But putting together a 10 year midfield group capable of contending only using later picks and trades is difficult. Particularly when your club isn’t the best at attracting top end talent.

Hawks were forced to do that and it didn’t turn out too well for them. And they had the draw of a big club and the games all time greatest coach.

If we spend next years first as well as this years on key position players, Come 2024 Smith will have been the only top end midfield player we’d have drafted in an 8 year period.

Doesn’t matter what club it is, or how good the coach is. It’s not the best list management strategy. The sooner we do something about it, the better.
I do think we will have to spend less on our midfield salary cap wise in future. Naughton, Darcy, JUH, English and smith are going to be taking a significant amount of the cap in coming years.

We definitely need to draft at least one more top line midfield talent in the coming years but I don’t think it’s an urgent must be this year or next issue.

In future giving our KPP stock coming through I would envision that our midfield will have some more grunt/role player types in future years support 2-3 start studded mids rather than having the 5-6 star studded midfield set up we currently have.

No amount of BF mail would make me believe that we are any chance in hell of getting Barrass. I want to believe, but I don't think it's realistic in any universe. Logue is therefore an absolute no-brainer, but I look forward to him going elsewhere and us chasing pipe dreams before giving up and settling for Liam Jones as we often do.

Very much agree. Also worth noting that Bev's best years have always come when we've had fresh blood going through the midfield. We desperately need an early draft mid in the next two years.
Yep, we have never landed a big fish ever. Let's not pump ourselves up that we are going to do it now. Otherwise a massive let down coming, like Wingard.

Would it be a disaster if we missed out?
He's just signed a long term, huge contract - likely cost us two firsts a la our demand to the Bombers for Dunkley.
I'd rather target Payne noting Brisbane care more about points than first round picks.

With Dunkley leaving, I expect us to get an early first round pick, earlier than our pick OR if it’s a later first, another useful draft pick.

Rather than trade for a KPD, we could offer the two early picks to North for pick 1. They would be better off with two bites and we could ask for a later pick to be included with pick 1.

Sheezel is an ultra-damaging midfielder-forward who would really suit us. He should be pick 1…. Although you would bid on Ashcroft first.

We could stay put and hope for Busslinger to still be on the board at our pick and then take another defender in Ginbey or Haynes with the later pick.

I personally don’t want us spending two first round picks on Barass but I guess IF the Eagles pay lots of his salary, then that would make it work.

Nah, no issue if (when) we miss out. But there is just this pattern of having mail linking us to pipe dreams and then settling for a DFA or cooked 35 year old or going into the season without adding anyone in a particular position. I would just really like to target a good player who will add something and then pull it off rather than put all our eggs in a very unlikely basket.

Concession ? WW 11. a dissater. Yes, it does matter, ask, Libber.

Dunkley leaving ? Bullsh.t. You made that.

If Dunkley does leave, heaven forbid, I think many on here will get a shock by what we receive for him. It won't be a top ten pick, that's for sure.

**** making finals, our final round mission should be operation get Dunkley 50 touches and 5 goals. Feed him at every opportunity. Get it done bevo his trade value is more important

Did it twice in the 2019 trade period.
Agreed, but it seems like the exception rather than the rule. It feels like other contending clubs make it happen with greater regularity but perhaps I'm wrong.

I reckon the eagles would be wanting to do whatever it can to better it’s draft position to get the best mid at #2 and then Busslinger in the top 6-7.

Keep an eye out.

"Trade value" is not entirely a reflection of how good a player is, it's also highly dependant on how much leverage each party has. We will have very little leverage this time around and the other club will be well aware of this.

It's strange how people are somehow more down on Dunkley after a month or so of really good footy, compared to before that month. It's back to the form of 2019 that saw him make the AA squad.
