The Geelong experience proves that if you want to improve as a team you need to trade in players of the highest calibre with excellent skills, not journeymen, fringe players or stop gaps. Not easy to achieve but that's the blueprint.
First you have too convince that quality player to nominate you. We don't have that cachet of the big clubs to get that too happen.
Otherwise agree with the principle need to keep on trying and hopefully we can make a better fist of it

Works if you can afford to bring in a specialist coach to help keep him focused as Cats did with Eddie

This.

I'm sure it's not as bad as it seems, but outside looking in feels like we're under resourced at the moment.

When you look at what you've mentioned above.

Swans (even though they got pumped) have Horse & Pyke in the box.

Demons rolling Goodwin, Richo & Williams.

Early days in the off season but I hope like hell we're sorting it out in a big way otherwise it could be another wasted year next year.

We can't seriously be looking at Tomlinson and Magden. I don't post here much but hearing there's names makes me feel ill. If the reports are true and this is the standard of player we are targeting it's concerning. We have young talent and can further these stocks with a good draft especially with compo for Dunks. We have holes in our defence which need proper solutions whether that is coaching or personnel (I think it's both). Getting these 28-30 bang average or even below average players such as ToB frustrates me to no end. Magden seriously a wet paper towel would be a better bet than him. We need change and with the solid options of within. If not, go for proven players in the AFL not the VFL

Completely and utterly butchered our soft cap.

Just because a player does a medical does not mean he will certainly come to us. The club may just be doing their due diligence. One of Tomlinson or Madgen may come, perhaps someone is leaving (Cordy). Perhaps neither come into the list. Save the hysteria until we know if we are actually going to recruit them.

I guess the thing I take from the Cats’ flag that may be applicable to us is to not rule a line through potential additions because they’re approaching 30. Obviously that doesn’t mean any old player in that age bracket, but players like Lobb and Jones that have demonstrated they can be elite and will improve upon our best 22 should be welcome additions.

Also you’re better off playing a small who can run on Cameron than a tall who gets burnt up the ground. Robbie Fox one of very few who can hold his head up high.

Absolutely need someone who can match Cameron in covering the ground. He isn't a huge contested mark if you can stay with him and put some body heat on him he can be somewhat blunted.

Cameron had 18, 2 goals 1, 8 marks and 8 score involvements. Not sure you could consider that a win for Fox.

Cameron kicked both of his goals in junk time in the 4th qtr. One of which was a handball recieve. Fox was pretty decent and probably only one of 3 players that can hand up and say I played alright. Rowbottom and Warner the others.

He’s not necessarily a dickhead . He had a tough upbringing . Removed by social services from his parents, brought up by his kin & then his mum died at a young age .

He went off the rails as a young fella but it’s great to see him given a second chance . He’s incredibly talented . A good news story in a tough week for the Indigenous community .
In other words a dickhead.
The ability to rehabilitate is the strength of good clubs

Fox was very good on Cameron and like you say Cameron only came to the party at the end

I thought Hickey was the Swans best. Very few mates though. Reid a horrible selection

You could probably include every goal scored after half time as junk goals if doing so for Cameron’s which were at the 7 and 25min mark of the last.

His day was pretty good with the numbers he had. Certainly not a win for Fox.

Really? Hickey was awful and Hawkins overpowering him twice in the first quarter for goals set up the whole day for the Swans.

Fox was absolutely superb as was Warner. I was really impressed by both.

I think in assessing Fox’s game we need to give him credit for the number of times ( and the time) the ball spent in Geelong’s forward line. Not sure how many forward entries Geelong had or the season average but Fox did well under difficult conditions.

Don’t recall Fox’s game, so not denying he played well. I was just making the point that Cameron wasn’t beaten, which a couple of posters mentioned.

His season average is 2.7, which no doubt a few would’ve been late in games when they were already over. He kicked 2.1 yesterday, had 18, 8 marks and 8 score involvements. For someone I can’t stand and was hoping would do heck all during the game, conceding he played pretty well is fair I reckon.

It's an interesting strategy. I do remember Easton Wood blanketing Buddy one game, so mobile talls who are probably better runners than contested narks can be played that way.
