Less nervous about Darcy leaving than any of our young guns. There'd have to some sort of disaster to lose him surely.
Darcy will sign but I’d be surprised if it’s before the season. How could he / his manager or the club possibly put a sensible contract value on him?

Managers don’t put options in contracts nearly enough but if I’m Darcy’a manager I’d be going 1 year extension (2024) at whatever JUH is on this year as a 3rd year player with and option for 2 more years.

At least Baz should hit 100 games this year. So even if he did leave, with his popularity with the ladies, I'd expect 100 FS Smiths in 30 years time.

"Smith wins the hit out, taps it down to Smith, who gets it out to Smith, who then side steps his opponent who is blocked by Smith, kicks it wide to the wing to Smith. Smith runs to the 50 and launches it to the goal square, Smith, Smith and Smith all jump up for it, but it spills to the ground, and scooped up for a brilliant goal by Smith. A sea of mullets and tan skins huddle around each other in celebration"

One really has to wonder how not a single offspring of Tony Modra has ended up in the league

Surely we are in a good spot to offer Ben McKay a big deal. North will be bottom 2 again, they'll take the compo.

I’d be genuinely shocked if they let one of their bookends for at least the next 5 years walk as an RFA for a high pick after bringing in Clarko on big bucks for the next 5 years.

If we’ve got the cap space you have to throw an offer out there and see if you could hook him.

They’ll throw whatever is needed to keep him so won’t happen but damn if they don’t improve again is that really where he wants to be? He’s been a cellar dweller his whole career now and isn’t getting any younger…

McKay, Buss, English, Marra, Naughty throw in the unicorn Darcy floating around

What the actual ****?

I’ve almost always felt like he has told the club he wants a trade in 2024 to move back with his partner.
Out of interest, does anyone know if guaranteed trade clauses are allowed in player contracts to avoid the messiness of verbal promises like with Lobb. Almost the equivalent of soccer buyout clauses.

With Tim it could be something like:
  • 4 year contact (27-30yo from 2025-2028)
  • If he wants to move we guarantee accepting any trade offers that deliver 2,000 draft points across no more than 2 picks. Could be pick 17 and 18 (2,010 points), pick 10 and 31 (2,001 points).
  • The points thresholds could change over time, change if he wins a premiership, etc.

At the end of 2024 he might not want to leave VIC just yet (to a probably still shit WCE) but conventionally he would have to choose between 2024 or [4] years later and might prefer the former. I’d rather keep him for even a year or 2 longer rather than forcing a fork in the road.

If the club had any inkling English may want out, they’d be giving Darcy ruck minutes at every opportunity, not playing him down back with some time up fwd.

I think we’re pretty safe with English, particularly considering we’re heading in to a pretty successful period list wise. Only a player a few quid short would leave for a guaranteed tough few years over what’s on offer here. But, if he did want out, no doubt we’ll play hard ball and any trade offer would have to be 2 high 1st rounders. Which is his market value considering his talent and age profile.

For those interested in Finn Callaghan, GWS have a 2 year deal in front of him at around double his ‘market value’. Dogs won’t pay him anywhere near that much. Big decision, Kid.

Do you think the dogs might look at upping their offer OR are we just going to watch him play at GWS?

Note:
We should ALL be interested in Finn. Would be a great get.

They’re desperate to not lose another first rounder. Caldwell, Hately, Hill (might have been early second), Bruhn all in the last couple of years. Not surprised they’re throwing their salary cap at Callaghan.

West Coast will come hard - but are rebuilding and Timmy would be kissing any flag hopes goodbye.
Freo have Darcy & Jackson, they'd have zero interest

Cheers.
For developing kids though you pay for potential more than pure market value. Maybe he takes that two years then reassesses? The 'new coach effect' can help

I'm not that worried about Tim leaving, but a rebuild at WCE wouldn't need to take the best part of a decade (unlike Carlton or North). The Eagles have a history of success and strong management of their footy ops so they won't stay at the bottom for long. They should be contending again well before he hits 30 and certainly before his likely retirement at 32 or 33.

However at this point his chances of a flag are definitely greater with us.

Looking at their current list, I don't think a quick rebuild is on the cards - they are still heavily reliant on the 30+ brigade so are in for a long build this time round. Dumping a whole bunch of picks for Tim Kelly puts them behind the 8-ball for a while.

WC will top up with WA rookies that turn into superstars. They will also be heavily into the coming draft as it is a very strong one, both great top end and lots of depth.

I see them challenging for a flag again in 5 years. Probably with our ruckman [emoji17]

It’s how they operate.

Yeah, WC the only real threat.

Probably the best outcome for us IF he decides to move on as WC will have some decent picks over the next few years. Unlike Dunkly’s stitch up going to the lions.

I still think it’s unlikely though. Most players (with a full book) would be pretty invested during this stage of a club’s journey. The ideal path for Tim would be playing at the Dogs till late career and then if the pull is still strong, play out the last 2 or 3 years back home. Either way, I see a long career at Whitten Oval.

Are you aware of if we have actually approached him with an offer or that he has indicated that he’s interested in coming to the dogs?
