Didn’t someone posted on here that the club are ok with the salary cap
I think its in good shape, we wouldn't have many, if any albatross contracts sitting on the books for middle tier players. None of the articles above mention that English and Naughton are already on $750k, so the jump to their next deal won't be too big. Also Dunkley didn't leave for more money (maybe an extra $15k-$20k p.a) he just wanted out.

This is an extremely well-regarded, longstanding club stalwart to simply not offer a new contract to. Not saying it's a bad move - I wouldn't know - just that it's a big move. I would hope we've got someone with a decent record on the hook already. I will be pretty disappointed if we end up with another first year coach in.
My biggest fear and probably the likely scenario will see Spanger moved to defence and another first timer taking over the forward line.

The coaching cull has begun with RS not being offered another contract

Can't help but feel sorry for the guy who's a heart and soul bulldog and it's not like he's had the cattle on the park albeit with injuries and talent
Good. His status within the club notwithstanding.

All line coaches should be turned over at regular intervals.

Don't expect Dogs to be massive active in the trade period

likely finding our fringe players new home and stockpiling draft picks

Salary about to come a bit tight so we won't be chasing massive stars at this stage

For reference before HS ran with the Marra story

He has a 3 year offer on the table but likely with the new CBA stuff, could be a 5-6 year deal on great coin

Agree has been at the club for 28 years and can guarantee there will be a few upset players about this

Would have thought could have had him involved in some other capacity

Where's this come from? Much to it you reckon?
From my contacts i work with in W.A

Honestly don't see much happening on this side of things but it's mainly showing how aggressive west coast will be

Their is one or two from every club I've heard atleast hinted to interest coming from Eagles. I think it's a case of them doing due diligence in the potential case that they receive pick/s from the afl that need to be on traded for players.

Has been at the club a long time. From all accounts a great bloke. Hopefully he gets a good opportunity elsewhere and it’s all amicable.

Definitely good to rotate the panel a bit and it was looking a bit stale.

Turning 30 end of the year, 8 games in two years, I don't think there will be many suitors for him. He'd actually be on decent coin as he signed his last deal with us when he was flying, will open up some room.
A bit of a sad story as he’s been hobbled by injury at times. Was better in his early games this year than last but had fallen back a long way from his best.

With 5-6 of our older players (or more) moving on, our list will be looking quite a bit younger next year and probably only at the expense of depth as they aren’t generally in the 22.

Always wary of ultra-long deals but I think his consistency and general improvement this year and the likelihood of a discount in exchange for the term make it appetising.

Get the impression he loves being at the club. Will have a 60 goal season soon.

I’d happily give Jamarra a 5-6 year extension. Heck I’d even consider 7.

I'm usually against them as well but for a player at his age and his trajectory locking in a long term deal could actually save the club money down the track.

Lobb is the only albatross deal and even that's not massive money for his position.
Crozier/TOB off the books probably covers any Jamarra deal increase. Plus the TPP increase due to the new rights deal.

It's another reason to hit the draft too - kids are on 2 year mandated minimum salary contracts so it reduces the overall TPP which you hit the draft.

Think it's for the better our defensive structures have been very questionable for a while

Line coaches rarely develop structures. Some may, and most probably have a hand in them changing over time, but their role is to manage each line and make sure they execute accordingly. I wouldn’t be blaming him for any potential structural issues.

As good as Smiths been across his time as a dogs coach, the general performance of some of those our backs this year (some falling off a cliff) has been really poor, and thats majority his responsibility. Definitely good news if we are in fact moving him on. Hopefully we ace it with his replacement, not sure I can handle another first timer.

I'd virtually open the chequebook for Matthew Boyd to come back. Knows mid and defensive structures well so if he took over defence he'd have a fair say on connection to the mids too

Are we paying Treloar in full at any point? I do like what he’s done for us but that would be one of our larger contracts if so. And potentially awkward given he’s keeping Baz (also needing $$$) out of his best position.
