Are we paying Treloar in full at any point? I do like what he’s done for us but that would be one of our larger contracts if so. And potentially awkward given he’s keeping Baz (also needing $$$) out of his best position.
Nope, Pies contributing around $300k for the life of his original deal. If we extend after the 5 year deal, that's all on us.
It's money he is owed anyway by delaying his contract. He really tried to do the right thing by Collingwood.

Lobb is the only albatross deal and even that's not massive money for his position.
Crozier/TOB off the books probably covers any Jamarra deal increase. Plus the TPP increase due to the new rights deal.

It's another reason to hit the draft too - kids are on 2 year mandated minimum salary contracts so it reduces the overall TPP which you hit the draft.
By all reports Lobb is on $500k a year I believe, even with his relatively low output this far it isn’t crippling money, more like standard wage. The years are a bit iffy, when the trade happened was reported as a 4 year deal but now it seems it’s 3.

I’d happily give Jamarra a 5-6 year extension. Heck I’d even consider 7.
He'll do what most young guns do.

He'll split the difference and sign a contract that takes him up to the restricted / free agent period.

Its the one after that where the big bucks and long term contracts appear.

Its player management 101.

I'd virtually open the chequebook for Matthew Boyd to come back. Knows mid and defensive structures well so if he took over defence he'd have a fair say on connection to the mids too
All the monies.

The extra year to both Liam Jones & Lobb concern me but I'm comfortable with the annual contract amounts.

I'm confident Lobb is a 3+1 trigger. 3 years for Jones was probably needed to stop another team swooping in. On form thus far it is worth it, even his two injuries were freak impact incidents. However our reliance on him means we won't have the luxury of managing him over the next few years, if he is fit he plays.

Someone posted recently that we are paying in full some later years of Treloar's contract. Not sure what's true.

Wouldn't come back with Bev in charge I wouldn't have thought.

My guess would be Stewart Edge moves into line coaching and Maddock or Varcoe takes over VFL
I will spew if that is the case. We are such an insular club! Smith, Bevo, Grant are all former players and have been at the club for yonks. Surely half the appeal of bringing in a new assistant coach is to bring in new ideas from outside the club at the same time and a different voice/thoughts on how the game should be played in general.
The VFL team model their style and structures on the senior team, which is how it should work in terms of making it easy for players to transition back and forth, but that also means that the VFL coaching staff are hardly going to bring any groundbreaking changes to a senior AFL coaching group when they are essentially coaching from the same book.

This does feel reasonably probable based on our history of promoting internally and Footscray's (recent) performance.

I would be OK with this if there is a highly experienced guy coming in in place of somebody else. If it's our only move, no thanks.

Would be ok with that. Has a nice block of assistant experience now.

What’s the go with this? Have read it several times over the years but no one really said what happened.

Is it legit or just fluff?

For mine it would be a disappointing outcome to lose Smith and not bring in anyone new.
It wouldn’t be a bad thing to see a reshuffle of positions and promotion of Varcoe/Maddocks if at the same time we’re moving Webb/Spangher on (as is rumoured) and recruiting another experienced assistant like we did with Lade. Other clubs have been seeing success in recent years with picking up sacked seniors - someone like Dew, Ratten (if he moves on from North now Clarkson is back) could prove effective.

Edge has the 2’s flying at the moment. Wouldn’t be a bad inclusion at all. Would need to bring external experience in too though.
He has experience as a forwards and defensive coach with GWS in their early days, so it’s not unrealistic that we might see him promoted

Fremantle are not exactly going well.

The coaching cull has begun with RS not being offered another contract

Can't help but feel sorry for the guy who's a heart and soul bulldog and it's not like he's had the cattle on the park albeit with injuries and talent
Chicken or Egg or Jay Clarke

Yeah I find this strange, considering Macca If he remained as our coach had already told MBoyd and Moz they were out of contract at the end of 2014. Instead under Bevo they became premiership players.

Don't know how much there is to the Moyd / Bevo relationship talk - Boyd wasn't happy spending extended time out of the team in his final season, but think the angst over him missing out on the 300 mark was more supporter-based? Plus I think he's professional enough to prioritise his career development over minor differences of opinion. He'd be a fair chance to become the anointed successor after stints at two clubs in assistant roles, assuming he's viewed as capable to fill that position.

Geez there’s going to be a heap going on with pick trades this year, can’t even make a guess at who’s going to do what.
I really wish we had open season trading for draft picks

give clubs plenty of time to move around before the official trade period

I thought Bevo shifting him to HB extended his career by a year or two.
