I wouldn’t be against us having a crack at Sam Berry from the Crows. Fallen out of favour this year but lead the league in tackles in 2022 from only 18 games, averaged 9.5 a week. That was his second season he’s still 21. Could add some defensive edge and grunt next to Libba/post Libba. Under contract for 2024 though

It’s hard to watch him these days. He’s turned into the polar opposite footballer from his first couple of years.
He's like any number of people I've worked with over the years. They look like superstars early on, talk the talk etc but stickability and dealing with adversity is not their thing. They peak early, become unreliable quickly and then disappear. The teachable slow burners who are always looking for something to do are a better bet.

I’m hesitant to get my hopes up again after having them stomped on multiple times by the AFLW’s inept management of expansion. The number of elite players we’ve had poached by other clubs is just ridiculous
They have a great young group coming through we did well last season and didn’t lose anyone.

I'd say as close to. Nothing is a sure thing but being a man of percentage I would guess 70% dogs, 20% other Vic, 5% Freo.
Bell will be a bell and ask for lions first and no doubt hold it up to the last day.
If we spend a pick higher than 40, not to mention a first, on Henry, I’m genuinely done

I wouldn’t give that up for Henry hope Sam power gives bell the finger and trades out the 2 first rounders

Unless Henry and Tomlinson excite you there isn't much around.
Don’t think there’s been an off-season that I’ve ever cared less about the trade period, at least in terms of bringing players in.

Fine with offloading underperformers for picks, but I wanna see early draft picks and administrative/coaching changes, even if it means keeping the same plodders on the list another year. The players aren’t the issue with us

I think something in the 30s is fair.

I just hope we don't trade in any 26 year olds with potential ala O'Brien. Looks like we will be quiet this year though.
I either want top 10 picks or to trade out into next year, potentially trading back in for a bid on Cleary then grab Lual and Da La Rue.

Agreed. I don't think it matters who we bring in, unless we actually start taking things like structures and development seriously, it'll all be meaningless.

I'd be putting Smith on the wing without any instruction. Just let him play free with spot minutes in the middle. And if Macrae isnt going to play mid then put him on the other wing. Screw defense, it can't be any worse than it already is and at least we have more better players around the ball rather than stuck at half forward without any clue. Poulter, Baker or whoever can rotate their while they learn.

I wouldn't want Henry for a 5th rounder.

Smith needs a spell.
I know this board tends to blame every loss on the 22nd player picked each game, but he was the single fumbliest player in our side for 2 weeks running now (quite the feat when VDM is running around).
He is a very good run with player but has Crozier's disposal - low vision so hits up long kicks at the first sign of congestion.

His head just isn't in the game right now. His workrate is still top notch but I'd give him another holiday to get his head right.

Cost would be huge, he's under contract.
I'd rookie Sullivan from our VFL program as he knows how to play defensively. It's what we need right now. If he plays 4 games per year as a specialist tagger and that's it, that's still above average for a lot of rookie picks.

I'd even consider - perhaps sit down for this - Luke Dunstan. Far too good for VFL and he's hard, by god we need some hardness in our side.

I'd Rather just play Mclean.

After seeing him lumbering around at the start of the year, I'm not convinced. I thought he'd be fantastic for us this year but as much as I love the bloke, he's cooked.
Reports that we're set to give O'Brien another year are terrible too. Great guy but he just isn't the player we bought when we paid up for the FA contract.

Smith needed a spell 6 weeks ago

Damage is done to him and the side.
