They won a premiership within 2 years after getting rid of Cooney. No way Cooney was playing in that side. He was never any good after 2010. Lost his speed and penetration in his kicking.

On Cross, we had the slowest midfield in the comp when he played and had no second position. In 2013 it was either him or Boyd. Boyd was the captain at the time. Keeping Boyd was the right move as he was able to reinvent himself as a half back All Australian in a premiership year (at the time I probably thought cross was playing better footy than Boyd).

Both calls by the club led us to a premiership. Really hard to argue they weren’t the right calls.

IMO We have consistently held on to older players for too long and not been ruthless enough.

Most players want to play for ever with out getting a tap on the shoulder. Libba senior would probs still be playing today if it was his choice.

Clubs will try dangle 5 years at him to entice to him leave but with an overall contract value which would be unders on what he would have gotten had he stayed healthy. Now next year is a right off his team can entertain the 2 year deal which will take him through to RFA.

I think what annoys us is the sense of entitlement, as if Baz wants to play for a rebuilding Geelong and Hawthorn, and would enjoy the intense media pressure of being a Collingwood player as opposed to playing with Bontempelli, Marra, Naughton and English, in a team he played with that won three finals and made a grand final, of which he played a major role. He is not the only player that has had a down year this year.
