I’d love a Beau Mcreery type as a role players. His speed and tackling are elite.

Could Lohman do that role? From the limited vision I have seen of Lohman his footskills don’t look as good as Mcreery

Mcreerys absolutely perfect for us, I’ve said a few times but there’s only so many goals to go around and we have a heap of scoring & marking power in theory with the talls & Cody, throw in West as a strong tackling and assist type and what we really need to gel it altogether is an elite pressure player, don’t even care if they hit the scoreboard at all but they need to be quick and apply elite pressure (hopefully Arty once he matures physically)

Yeah I’d be very keen on X Duursma, hasn’t exactly put it together yet but he’s a genuine winger with high upside and could potentially get him cheap compared to his upside. Right age and a really good fit. Hope we’re having a big crack there.

If we could some how pull off the Duursma double that would add some serious outside ability to our mix, really spot on attributes for the modern game with their size and athleticism - probably would need to use 17 for X Duursma though so probably not able to trade up

Yeh some players make you look harder and tougher at it as an entire team. We need 1 or 3 of them and Mccreery is a good example

TLDR Sam Power

• Won't chase players just to fill up the list, will be targeted trades
• Will be taking 2-4 picks to the national draft
• Dogs considering trading up to Pick 4 and other deals to max the two first rounders. Won't rule out taking them to the draft

-Open mind to using their future first and future picks for deals
-Croft- reasonable year for the cannons, rate his athletism, has improved a lot throughout the season

• Dogs have a good blend of experience and raw key position players
• Jedd- Pleased with his second half of the year in the VFL, didn't join the full program till round 2 of VFL

-Midfield- given they brought in some key players, missed aspects of the draft due to Marra and Darcy, will focus on getting players with run and speed to boost the midfield rotation
- Treloar- Nothing ever been on record of him wanting to leave, balances his work and family life and Dogs are super supportive
-Bailey- Will always catch the attention of the media, Contracted and Important player and see him as the future inside cog for Dogs

• Kai Lohmann- They won't comment on individual players, looking at player that will cover the ground and bring speed
• Jordan Sweet- Deal on the table with Sweet for most of the year, unfortunate that English has played every game for Jordan, Dogs see him having a bright future at the Dogs. Really enjoys the club, old man is a Dogs supporter. Stef Martin and Lade have worked a lot with Sweet and English
• Naughton, English and Marra- All enjoying being at the club, Dogs want to sign sooner rather than later. CBA negotiation holding up the talks. Managers and players saying Dogs have a bright future

Not sure where the Lohmann talk has come from, but I really hope there is nothing in it. Also, don't see how he helps our forward mix.

Unpopular opinion - his kicking is ok, his workrate is elite, his vision and decision making are below average and that's what is holding him back.

Not unpopular, more facts. It is what experienced players refer to, the game coming too fast at younger players.
You can see it with Smithy, he gets the ball in the middle of the ground and throws the ball onto his boot, instead of lowering his eyes and kicking to space where Marr or Astro are leading.

Disagree to an extent. It’s his decision making AND kicking that’s letting him down. Even if you look at something as simple as his goalkicking, he’s sitting at 10.18 for the previous two seasons compared to 17.10 in 2021.

It wasn’t that poor in his early seasons but it’s fallen off a cliff in the last two seasons. He’ll have all the space in the world and still manage to hit the opposition with kicks. Baz had a set shot for 35m out a 45 degree angle towards the end of this season and didn’t even make the distance.

Disagree to an extent. It’s his decision making AND kicking that’s letting him down. Even if you look at something as simple as his goalkicking, he’s sitting at 10.18 for the previous two seasons compared to 17.10 in 2021.

It wasn’t that poor in his early seasons but it’s fallen off a cliff in the last two seasons. He’ll have all the space in the world and still manage to hit the opposition with kicks. Baz had a set shot for 35m out a 45 degree angle towards the end of this season and didn’t even make the distance.

52.2% kicking efficiency for the year is diabolical.

Agree, both his kicking and decision making is very average. There is a long way back for Smith to be even a B grade midfielder and the equation is not just whether we can get him back there but whether he can himself. He is fit and puts in a lot of work. Not enough of that work relates to skills and decision making just fitness.

In saying that I would not be looking at trading him for pick 3 unless he himself suggests he would like to go.

I would like to see him work closely with a quality assistant, development coach to work on his skills and decision making as if these do improve his confidence will come back fairly quickly

I wouldn’t mind him if used solely as a defender but knowing how we develop players, he’ll switch between forward and defence every two weeks, stunting any progress
