Not true. Since the new bidding system started in 2015 we've bid on 6 players: Ben Keays (pick 24 2015), Josh Dunkley (pick 25 2015), Cody Brand (pick 53 2020), Joel Western (pick 54 2020), Josh Fahey (pick 42 2021) and Jaspa Fletcher (pick 12 2022).I feel like we bid on NGAs, F/S’ & northern academy players all the time though, so I dunno if people will have that same respect for us to be honest. At the time I love that we make other teams accountable but to be honest in hindsight it’s probably pretty stupid considering we usually have such a strong F/S & NGA pipeline. I mean it might have already cost us with Marra & Darcy tbh
Hasn't given away to much info, seems to keep the middle ground in every question, without giving much away either direction.Sam Power will be on Gettable if anyone is interested
Fair, feels like we bid a lot more, & almost every year but probably just bias because I only really focus on our picksNot true. Of the 6 we've selected, 3 have been at the back end of the draft, 2 were 2nd rounders back in 2015 and Fletcher last year. Jamarra was taken prior to our 2020 bids and I'm quite sure GWS didn't bid on Sam Darcy at pick 2 with any consideration to us placing bids with the 6th and 7th last picks of the previous year's draft.
There are a number of other clubs who do a lot more bidding than we do, and much further up the draft.
On the flip side, we've taken only 3 players under this system (West, Jamarra and Darcy). All of whom we've had to stump up a big price for, although less so West.

Feels the first round group of draftees this year is still pretty solid, opens up after that like last year.
Says the club likes a few of the defenders in this years draft.
Admits our midfield profile is out of balance. Pointed out the fact we had to match bids on JUH and Darcy, as having taken us out of certain parts of the draft, where we would normally target certain types.
Hinted we are looking at getting some more run and speed into the middle.
Smith part of the clubs long term plans.
Currently a deal on the table for Sweet. Club wants to keep him. Apparently Sweet was a Dogs fan?
Only had small talk so far with Gold Coasts for pick 4. Keeping an open mind to trading up.
Waiting on the end of the season to see where all the other picks around us land, so we can make more concrete plans then.
Open to getting involved in the trade market, but language seems to indicate we won't be big players.
Which you can understand, given clubs like to keep things close to their chest and not give rival teams to much info on who we are targeting or like in the draft. So they don't try trade into a pick ahead of us if they knew we liked a player they expected to slide to them etc.Played with a straight bat give them nothing
His last game in the seniors saw him isolated up forward wrestling with defenders while stationery and getting absolutely manhandled. He’s a player who needs to be on the move to get full use of his athleticism and sticky hands. I’d like him on a forward flank working up the ground, though I’m not entirely sure we’ll ever see him functioning at 100% in a forward line with JUH.How good was Buku last weekend? I’m convinced there’s an AFL standard player in there but how do we get the best out of him? Elite athleticism, elite hands, tidy footskills and a solid workrate & aggression to win the ball/tackle. His tank is fine now, he rucks and gets up and down the ground all day. Those attributes have a spot in an AFL 22 but theres just no room for a medium forward in our forward line and would take probably 2-3 injuries for him to get that chance.
you can def see the difference in attack with BukuHis last game in the seniors saw him isolated up forward wrestling with defenders while stationery and getting absolutely manhandled. If we do keep him around and try him in the seniors again, I really hope it’s not in the ruck/forward role.

Looking at the picks tablesWho else is better placed to trade for gold coasts first?
I’ve seen a few posters on here suggest Richards could be run through the middle, giving us some burst speed and a good ball user inside 50. I’d personally be loathe to move him from defense, as I think he’s potentially an AA calibre player there, but it could be worth seeing how it works in preseason and Khamis could theoretically play in defense (Jones, JOD, Khamis, Dale, JJ, maybe Williams or another small/lockdown?).
I can’t see the benefit in playing him forward/ruck at AFL level given Lobb is there and Darcy is coming through. He’s not displacing anyone else in the forward line so something in the back half is probably the only opportunity.
TLDR Sam Power
-Open mind to using their future first and future picks for deals
- Won't chase players just to fill up the list, will be targeted trades
- Will be taking 2-4 picks to the national draft
- Dogs considering trading up to Pick 4 and other deals to max the two first rounders. Won't rule out taking them to the draft
-Croft- reasonable year for the cannons, rate his athletism, has improved a lot throughout the season
-Midfield- given they brought in some key players, missed aspects of the draft due to Marra and Darcy, will focus on getting players with run and speed to boost the midfield rotation
- Dogs have a good blend of experience and raw key position players
- Jedd- Pleased with his second half of the year in the VFL, didn't join the full program till round 2 of VFL
- Treloar- Nothing ever been on record of him wanting to leave, balances his work and family life and Dogs are super supportive
-Bailey- Will always catch the attention of the media, Contracted and Important player and see him as the future inside cog for Dogs
- Kai Lohmann- They won't comment on individual players, looking at player that will cover the ground and bring speed
- Jordan Sweet- Deal on the table with Sweet for most of the year, unfortunate that English has played every game for Jordan, Dogs see him having a bright future at the Dogs. Really enjoys the club, old man is a Dogs supporter. Stef Martin and Lade have worked a lot with Sweet and English
- Naughton, English and Marra- All enjoying being at the club, Dogs want to sign sooner rather than later. CBA negotiation holding up the talks. Managers and players saying Dogs have a bright future
I am personally in favour of keeping FA compensation around, but think it needs to be watered down (Band 1 should peak at Pick 11 and no higher, so after every non-finalist pick). In this case though, North don't seem to even be interested in keeping the player given they haven't even made an offer to McKay. They clearly want the pick over the player, which is problematic. The compo pick should never be worth more than the playerSo according to reports from just before, other clubs think Sydney will offer McKay a massive contract that will likely net North Pick 3, so that pushes everyone back a pick. Step one of making the draft more compromised. Not sure the system is right if losing a mid tier player nets you a top 3 pick. If another team wants to over pay for someone, then so be it. Don't reward the other team because they don't value their player enough to offer a decent contract themselves with a high end pick. AFL needs to rewrite the compensation rules.
Pick 10 will become pick 12 come draft night, at the minimum. Could even go as far back as 14 in worst case scenario.
Off to DemonsMcadam worth a look?
