Jesus Christ... Saints made their bed hiring Silvagni as their recruiter after his efforts at Carlton (gifting contracts to his sons, hiring low performing ex-GWS players he'd drafted while there) so this can't be unexpected. They now have to hope this doesn't blow up in their faces, because I doubt Wilkie has been on that much
I can’t believe the media are praising this approach. They’re acting like junkies chasing their next hit. When the inevitable comedown arrives and there’s nothing left in the cap, it’ll end in buyer’s remorse and a Collingwood-style fire sale.

At what point is that a genuine conflict of interest?

JSOS has just been paid well above market value (and well above other offers) by his own father.

Of course, but that's where a strong admin step in but they're so desperate they just can't help themselves.

We have a new Essendon. Trade week winners. 😆

Tylar Young or Jordan Butts certainly win - one of them is certainly getting a pay rise and AFL game time with us next year.
Hey mate.

Reading this, it seems you're suggesting one will be in the RWB next year. Is that true, or am I reading too much into it.

I'm in the hopium. Media reports have is as one of 3 clubs chasing Young and we'd surely be the most attractive option.

Other than any club with a draft pick in the 2nd round or later (assuming he attracts band 2 compo), which will be pushed down as a result of this stupid non-zero sum free agency compensation system.

Yes. Its an opaquely stupid rule that is open to manipulation. One that for the most part effects those downstream.

But the reality is that its just another brick of the scales of inequity that is the compromised nature of the draft and where picks finally fall.

The draft has become Frankensteins monster and he steps all over everybody's dick. And its as equitable as its ever likely to be, without systemic reform, but like taxation reform or middle class welfare. Its going to be hard to put the toothpaste of personal interest back into the tube.

I know nought about any of these or the others guys like Budarick mentioned in this thread.

Who are they and what do they offer outside of what we currently have?

It'd want to be something beyond being tall. Because we wasted enough time on exactly these types when we were casting about for forwards.

If they dont fit the criteria of being more than an incremental (Like Silvangi was) upgrade on what we have then I. DO. NOT. WANT.

Trade period is weeks away.
Let's just wait for trade period. A lot of the more solid player movement snippets only appear after finals anyway.

Its a pretty funny reply when you see who he was replying to.

No bait. All hook.

At least there going after players and getting better who are we going after to make us better no body We are not getting butts there has been no reports that he is coming to us

1. We also went after JSOS to make us better but wisely didn't offer $900K for 5 years.
2. Trade period doesn't start for another month, plenty of time for moves still.
3. We absolutely may get Butts still, he will make a decision if he wants to move on after the finals series, why would you demand a trade while your teams is playing finals still when you're on the bubble of best 22? Would just about rule yourself out from getting picked.

But But But the media saying they’re killing it by being aggressive. What they aren’t saying is how pissed off 65% of the list will be.
This has Hindenburg written all over it

Bullet dodge lmao. People were saying the same about Barrass last year with back concerns. Far out people happy to roll out the same tripe we dished up all year defensively.

God forbid we could actually land anyone worth getting.

These are Bonts last years and we continually sit on our hands. So disappointing.

Barrass is 100x the player JSOS is

Not comparable misses

Saints are going to be putting a target on their backs now after this spending spree.

Darcy Wilson out of contract end of next year will get some big offers (hopefully by us).

Wilkie an obvious one they need to look after and give a pay rise too now that they have brought Aleer and JSOS in on more money than him.

There's no way they can pay everyone on these big deals, someone is bound to get pushed out.

Almost certainly. They've chosen their path.
I think it will come down to money for him. He turns 27 in two days so this will be his chance at a decent contract to make some money. If we offered $100-$200k more than the Tigers are willing to pay, I don't think there's much doubt he would leave. Just depends how much we are willing to offer

I just don't believe all those crap about the Saints 'having to start paying players and using their cap'.

We should be in Wilkie's ear today.

Not sure about Budarick. His contested defensive 1v1 loss rates over the years are horrific, much worse than all of the small defenders we already have.

Can anyone that has watched confirm if he passes the eye test in terms of his actual defending?

The times I’ve seen him this year he’s been playing up forward so I’m not sure how he does as a defender. Hasn’t been bad but average.
