Surely Marra would be make a better Key back than Young or Silvagni or Butts or others that are not gettable. After watching Smith play this year, I’ll be so disillusioned if Marra goes to another club and does well. Means we are poor in managing complex characters and needs to be looked at. Don’t know if that’s Bevo or Edge or Bains but it needs to be better.

How far do you go though? How many times can you tell a bloke that attending nightclubs at 2.30am with undesirables is probably not a good idea? Too little personal responsibility these days.

We can blame the player and if he never plays again, then we did the best we could and was just unsalvageable.
But if he joins another club and ends up a gun, do you still put the full blame on the player or do we need to look within and ask whether we have the right people in the right roles? No one knows now where the Marra story goes but I look at Smith and think premierships are hard enough. How do we lose a 23yr old All-Australian (in his next year) for peanuts. Its not like he got a $1.7m godfather offer, he just decided he didn’t want to play for us anymore.

And how do we know that Mr Cotton On (who sponsors Geelong) didn't say to Smith 'Here's an extra however much over however long if you come over to Geelong'?

Let's not just fall for the Smith camp spin trying to repair his image and paint him as the innocent individual cruelled by a heartless football club (supporting him through his drug issues, Euro summer mid season...).

Let's all remember that Smith instigated the move. He was the one that cracked the s*, he did the dirty on the club that wanted to keep him. Sometimes the other person in a split is just a p*

Love the idea (above) of JUH coming back as a FB. This is the kind of challenge that could turn around his reputation. Become a hero and show he is going to do the work for the team. If I was his manager I would ask for it and get him training now / this focus would be huge. And For us - when Chris G went back he grew reputation- was arguably a better CHB than CHF.

I would assume myself that Marra seeks an alternative club following his AFL gap year. I would also think that like Naughton there’s no way he would give up kicking goals to play in defence assuming he plays afl again for us or elsewhere.
Hope I am wrong would love to have back.

On paper he may not have got a $1.7m offer but I'm sure under the table with the Cotton On bonus's, budget land purchases and other undisclosed sponsorships he woud've easily got that (plus the clubs blind eye to whatever he gets up to in his own time as long as he turns up to play)

Hawks are where we should be as a club, they bend us over in finals and then go out and get two key defenders, and we are left watching finals this year. We gotta be ruthless and get some defenders this trade period.

We went hard at Barrass and were offering similar to the Hawks

He chose them
