Given Carlton have Hawthorn's 2nd round pick, which is currently Pick 34, and not their own I think that would be a fairly reasonable offer for Buku. Do we think our 2nd, currently 28, and 34 would be enough for Butts if that trade happens?
Carlton doesn't own their first or second round picks.

They do however have the Lions second rounder (currently pick 35) along with the TDK/JSOS compo selections.

Travis Boak is in talks with the club about a potential coaching role

How does Ryan Gardner turn into Prime Stephen Silvagni in the VFL but then turn into... well Ryan Gardner in the AFL?

Baffling because he is by far the best KPD in the VFL and one of the major reasons Footscray has the best defence and won 14 straight games including the Grand Final.

Confidence.

Ryan has always looked like a nervous nelly in the AFL (both defensively & offensively) but comfortable at VFL level. It's a trait that's often missed when discussing players and is one of the issues I have with Buss at the moment.

It's slower however he still does the same thing at VFL level,

Late in the 3rd took possession deep in D50 and instead of kicking it long shits himself hands it off to Doc 20cm away turn over SP goal

As much I hate losing Dunkley and Bailey they would be ecstatic with their decisions. Dunks was lucky he did not end up at the bombers. Now he is playing in his third Gf and already one flag with the lions. Bailey one of the Brownlow favourites more midfield time a chance for a flag. You expect both teams will be up there again in years to come.

Jealous as a dogs supporter you betcha.

Personally, I'd rather our tall depth be of the developing type. Like Croft, Walker or Sellwood.

What's the difference? He'd be out of contract and would be unlikely to get a new one with us.

This is why the club won't stand in the way of a guy who they took a shot on as a Cat B rookie. If reports of Carlton offering him 4 years @$600k are correct.

Khamis is exactly the kind off guy who needs to be turned over.
The kind of guy that needs to be turned over is Gardner. Yet somehow in what is one of the worst list management decisions in the history of poor list management decisions he still has one more year under contract.

Statistically Baileys year this year is only mildly better then his 2022 year

He is just getting better PR now he is at one of the leagues love child clubs

I harp on it a lot but the midfield ball movement of VFL vs AFL allows so many defenders to set up correctly

I don't fully understand Buku's reasoning for leaving.

So I get that he is getting a longer and more lucrative contract at Carlton, but all the public messaging even from before the trade request went through was that he wanted "more opportunity".

I get that he hasn't broken into our Best 22 yet but he has still played 31 games over the past 2 seasons. I just don't see Carlton giving him more opportunity then that.

This smells a lot like Lewis Young 2.0 (go to Carlton for "more opportunity" but then realise they are the reserve/backup/fringe player no matter where they go)

I think he could possibly see himself as more of a forward. He knows he won't get past Darcy and Naughton and probably now Croft. Also in the small chance JUH makes any type of comeback, you could argue that's four people ahead of him.

Reckon it's a fair call from him.

Perhaps Buku understands he's at his best when he is played forward, with Croft, Darcy and Naughton in the side he's got as much chance as you or I at getting a best 23 spot next year if everybody is healthy.

I think it's pretty clear that with JSOS and Curnow (potentially) moving on from Carlton, and them not having a huge amount of tall depth, there's a very obvious opportunity there that he simply won't get at the Dogs.

Edit: What Scott Tracy said.

Young has played 56 games since leaving us

He would be lucky to have played 10 if he stayed

The club moved past him as a defender even though we needed an extra tall in defence. The club chose either no one, then Jones and then Buss before looking at him.

I’m not sure where he sees himself but it’s clearly the right call for his football career.

If he's not getting past Naughton and Darcy he ain't getting past McKay and Curnow (if he stays).

All power to him for getting his bag, but let's not pretend it's for more opportunity. He'll be in the same queue at the Blues as he is at the Dogs. At best he'll be averaging 14-15 games at Carlton which is similar to what he's getting here over the past couple of seasons.

You know that two things can be true at the same time same time. Right?

Do you see a world where Khamis is still on our list in 4 years like he will be at Carlton?

Because the answer to that tells you why a 4 year contract whether he plays at the top level or not would be enticing.

He would be the 3rd tall and back up ruck

He is now behind Croft
