Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
I rate Cleary pretty well defensively. It's his decision making with the ball that's the iffy part with him. He's probably learning under Dale so hopefully it improves in time.No he isn't. Nor are any of the other names being bandied about with the exception of perhaps Mad May.
Its seems pretty obvious to me that the improvement is going to have to come from within. That will begin with teh likely inclusion of Bauderic and Sellwood. Both of whom are more defensively minded than the likes of Johansson and Cleary who will likely make way for them. And it can end with Beveridge re-jigging his game plan to stop teams getting a run on.
Just play Smith as a second ruck/interchange option then.

Smith looks fine. Add 5 kgs this pre season and he is good to go. He is very impressive for a 19 year old.
Reeves is shithouse.

If we kick lots of goals we don’t need defendersIf we end up keeping our 1st think Dovaston needs to be a priority. We need more threatening small forwards. Looking at the Lions Lohman, Bailey & Cameron all serious goal kicking threats helps to split defences and stop the ball slingshotting out of the forward line.
McNeil and VDM are ignored mostly as they don't present a credible risk to opposing defences.
Imagine Essendon were smart back in the day and paid to move the Wests across the streetWho would have known that were loopholes in the AFL rules that you drive a bus through?
Tried that this year and missed finalsIf we kick lots of goals we don’t need defenders
You can blame snakes like Hunter who made Dunkley want out because they were slack ****sHe wanted out because of concerns with professionalism from other players. He requested a trade, was denied it, and came back and gave it his all. He fulfilled his contract to the absolute best of his ability, then departed once his contract was finished.
Bailey Smith skipped milestone games of team mates and community events in his final year, made public appearances with Geelong personnel while still under contract, and has continued shit talking the club once he left despite everything done for him.
I truly could not see how Dunkley is as much a snake as Smith. It’s not even remotely close
But we stack the forward line with more, we get more goals, more wins and make it….right?Tried that this year and missed finals

Little bit left field this one, but I don't rate English as a ruckman. The rule changes may help him, but 11th in our B & F (and by a fair margin) says it all to me. I'd consider bringing in Reeves and throwing English forward. That would mean one of Naughton or Croft would have to play down back.
Best we can do is Alex SextonBen Ainsworth yes please.
We pay a big price, so probably fair/realistic.Here is my hypothetical for Buderic and butters. What do people think.
Dogs give JUH pick 11 pick 31
Suns give pick 6 and Buderick. Suns get an extra 150 odd points and JUH for buderick.
Dogs give 7 2026 1st 2027 1st
Power give butters pick 27 and 2026 2nd.
Gives power 3 1sts for butters and 2 2nds.
expect us to get a 1 1st in either 2026 or 2027 for sanders
I think he'll bee one of the biggest beneficiaries of the new centre bounce rules. He's always been clueless as to what to do when an immobile galoot stands at the centre line and just steps into his space taking away his leap advantage.I'll back English will adjust to the new rules and improve his ruck game. English isn't going to be thrown forward anyways as evident with the demons game. He'll be outside the 50 marking any dump kick that comes his way.

Why not play English as a key defender in that scenario? He has better footskills than most his size which would be handy in defence.
Is he competitive enough? Easier to hide those players in the forward line.
Yep, the price will be high for Butters. Here is my hypothetical for Buderic and butters. What do people think.

I’m keen to see how the last touch rule impacts him. My impression is this will advantage rucks like Timmy who struggle to wrestle, but are highly mobile and can leap. If I was to guess, I think we see some change in the types of rucks who start performing well. Less of the immobile lumps, with a rise in impact of even guys like West Coast’s Bailey WilliamsLittle bit left field this one, but I don't rate English as a ruckman. The rule changes may help him, but 11th in our B & F (and by a fair margin) says it all to me. I'd consider bringing in Reeves and throwing English forward. Small sample size compared to a player we recruited as a forward ruck and is now playing CHB suggests again he isn’t any more then a mediocre forwardI did a bit of an experiment a year or 2 ago comparing English to Rory Lobb forward, but only pulling the data where English played with another recognisable ruck man - which really reduces the the number of games, but basically it was when he played in the same side as Stefan Martin and Jordan Sweet.
The results were pretty much like for like. Again, small sample size, but I remember after looking at the stats that I was pleasantly surprised.
Nah that's rubbish. You have to be ultra competitive to play any position well. See Josh Schache. If he's not competitive enough then you drop him, you don't clog up your forwardline with uncompetitive players. I think the "competitive" thing with English is a load of crap though. He's not physically built for ruck contests - he's too narrow and his center of gravity is too high. When he can get a run up and jump he goes okay but when he gets bodied he gets beaten. People mistake a physical limitation with a lack of competitiveness.
