But is it being renovated to be sold 🤔

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bont took less money so we could offer this sort of contract to Butters
Our cap doesn't need the Bont to take less money to fit the Butters offer in - I believe that Bont needs to be comfortable that Butters is offered significantly more than him. I suspect that conversation has already been had between the Bont and other senior players and the club.

Wilkie was unhappy because he was vastly underpaid,

All of our big name players have re-signed recently so would all be paid well
Darcy is the big one. He might be the most underpaid player in the comp relative to the offers he would receive on the open market.

He signed in December 2024. I couldn't see him being on more tan $900k a year which in comparison to the $2 million offers his management would be regularly receiving.

I really like Butters as a player and would like him at the club but 3 first rounders is an absolutely ridiculous price, that we would struggle to pay without major machinations and we should steadfastly refuse such a deal.

History is littered with deals of this kind that have had dire consequences.
The Chris Judd and Tim Kelly deals spring to mind where even when the sought after player plays well for his destination club, they are a long-term loser following the deal.

No deal is worth it at any price. Especially when Butter's isn't the type of player we lack right at this moment in time having just resigned Treloar.

We desperately need a Sam Taylor\Harris Andrews type but even then; I would still baulk at a price of 3 first rounders.
Agree to an extent…but Treloar is at the end….Butters is perfect age profile for us. 3 is too steep agree with that

Darcy and now Westy (since he has cemented his place) will be like Libba and take small unders as they love the club

With Butters we should be going fairly deep into finals,

Our first rounders after bids and compos would be closer to 20 then 10 the price sounds high but its not

Keep in mind the last year is Tassies first so pick will be closer to 30

Club ties will saves us $. He is heavily invested and I don’t think will ever be a flight risk as long as we are generous. Kind of like Bont.

I agree 3 is too steep, however when posters here and supporters elsewhere say we have to go all in, this is what all in looks like, and this is the light side of all in, to get A graders in from other clubs. For Free Agency it is overly inflated wages.

Harris played against the Cats in 2 finals this year, the Lions won one. The one where their midfield dominated. The Dees Mids took over from the last 10 minutes of the third quarter in 2021. Mid fields win premierships as their dominance protects lesser defenders in a system and provides opportunities for forwards to capitalize.

Butters is worth the risk if we want to have the best opportunity of having a crack in the next 2 to 3 years

I'm not sure about that. May wasn't the one sprinting it out 10 times uncontested in the Granny, was he? That was Petracca, Oliver, Viney. In the middle is where the game starts. It remains the heart of any good Football team. Our Defence will remain an issue regardless, especially given we have misfired again this period.
I consider the ruckman a part of the midfield, don’t you?

No surprise we looked our best when Martin was rucking instead of English or…Lewis Young.

Obviously the midfield bears some blame for that games as well, but we were never beating Melbourne after playing finals for a month with no break, losing our best forward who we depended on, and having half our defence come out as cooked on grand final day, Wood, Keath, Williams with one of the worst games ever etc.

We could have Steven May next year if we were able to make obvious sensible decisions. But alas that is far from our strong suit.
There would be an assault in Barkly cafe every week if we recruited him Prof. he is cooked nowadays. 2021 will be half a decade ago soon.

Just to help those worrying about the "3 first round draft picks"

In 2027 Tasmania already have picks 1,3,5,7,9 and 13 If we make a prelim that year our first pick at a minimum is 20 before any F/S or Academy bids

We need to move up into the top 10 for this year no doubt but then our picks would be say 6 14 and 20 (before NGA/Academy/F + S bids for Butters

You would do that in an absolute heart beat without question

Why does the trade period need to be 9 days ffs
It has very little to do with trading given most of the pieces are put in place weeks in advance.

Its all about money and commanding the narrative in the post AFL and NRL seasons.

It's no coincidence that the Trade period gets underway the day following the NRL Grand final. When in reality it could've just as easily taken place next week or over a few days later this week or any time at all really. Its just a confection to keep nuffies like us interested for long enough for teh league and its broadcasting parters to push stupid amounts of advertising in front of us.

It's why I never tune into trade radio. Its seems a pointless exercise when they're often just regurgitating things that are already on social media. Or worse still just wasting time with ridiculous trade hypotheticals. Which seem to be the hallmark of the deep thinker and renowned list manager Adam Cooney.
