To be fair, Morris did say the memo went out to clubs a few weeks ago.
It's pretty telling how much time journalists spend making shit up as opposed to speaking with actual sources when a significant rule change can be communicated and yet not reported on for weeks.

Bunch of imbeciles running the joint. Just making it up as they go along.
It's incredible because if you follow the American sports which the trade and draft model is copied across, they copy over some elements of it but the rules are incredibly, incredibly strict and the logic behind them is entirely solid and understandable if you get into the weeds of the player owners and players.

If Buku plays most of next season in the VFL no one will be offering pick 40. It’ll be late pick/DFA territory.

If we don’t see him playing round one I’d probably take it as long as we have some talks in mind in the draft. He seemed well out of favour late in the season.
Given we don’t really know whether his best position is forward or back, whether he is actually a KPP or not, is not best 23, and has deficiencies like when the ball is on the ground and can’t handle body contact. Along with young players coming through at both ends, I am not sure why we are even having the discussion.

Why?

The club has publicly stated numerous time now that unless a player will improve our side then we'll just go with what we have. If our only choice is a 32 year old journeyman as coverage then we may as well have kept the 34 year old journeyman that we had on the list. And we didn't do that.

I think the club is saying that from a trade perspective more so from a free depth pick up. I could be wrong though.

We do need some depth with Jones and Buku leaving.

Frost would likely be next in line if Buss, Lobb or JoD got injured.

Yeah, a read that as we're only going to spend assets, not add to the depth.

By definition we need to pad out our list and we can do that for "free" with SSP and late draft picks on a minimum salary.

It's more the point we're not going to look to spend any money over the league's contracted minimum or use any draft picks that have any value above and beyond an SSP pick to recruit any player we're unsure if they slot straight into our best 22.

Frost would likely be first next in line if Buss, Lobb or JoD got injured.
Ryan Gardner would be next in line.

Or we could just revert to the conventional of playing 2 KPD.

A near 33 year old Sam Frost ads nothing at all to our list even as a free hit. A player so ordinary that whenever Dermott Brereton comments on him during a game it's nearly always with pitying and mocking tone. And say what you want about Dermott's shitty commentary and analysis of the game as a whole ( I certainly do) he knows one thing. And thats Hawthorn.

People really need to stop adding Khamis to the list of KPP as a fulcrum for their argument about our lack of KPP depth. They also need to stop with the delusion that he's worth an early to mid 20's draft selection just because he's still under contract. Because if they hold onto that then they're setting themselves up for a lot of disappointment.

He's an intercept flanker/3rd forward at best who has never shown an ability to stop a direct opponent one on one.

Saints have pulled out of the Leek Aleer race. Probably a bit of posturing still, but he'd be handy insurance.

Really interesting Saints have walked away, you dont see that often.

I really don't rate Leek from what I've seen, was hoping the Saints wasted more cap space on him. I wonder if we are interested though, he's another one suited to zone off and intercept rather than a #1 KPD we need...

Gardner and Coffield as KPD depth would be an interesting choice.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t have someone else join.

Not saying Frost would solve anything but he’d be instantly ahead of those two for mine.

He is worse then Gards
Yeah I know, I did say insurance, so he'd be primarily a VFL player and only playing if we had injuries in the backline.

I'm not in love with the idea. I'm just thinking about how our VFL team will look in 2026 if we assume 2 of Busslinger, Sellwood and Walker are in the 1s.
